  • I, personally, fell in love with Henry Higgins with Eliza, but the feelings Freddy has for her in this song are presented beautifully. <3

  • I prefer Higgins, he's so charming; he's got it all. He's virile and not mawkish

  • This is actually not the wonderful Jeremy Brett, who played Freddy. The singing voice for Freddy was Bill Shirley.

  • in the play liza ends up with freddie. i personaly think he is useless as a man, but the movie ending was better anyway.

  • Every SINGLE time I watched this movie I would always pray for Eliza to choose him... Dammit, I would have...

  • jeremy brett admitted his voice was dubbed

  • @TheChakwow yup. Sung by Bill Shirley. Although the marvelous Mr. Brett could sing.

  • asbdaknccs. i loveloveloveloveloooove this song<3 used to watch this movie with my grama all the time(:

  • FUN FACT: The guy who provided the singing voice of Freddy was the same guy who voiced Prince Phillip in Disney's "Sleeping Beauty"; his name is Bill Shirley.

Such a beautiful voice mixed in with a beautiful song.

  • .stalker.

  • @pinkvespa95 I think this is where Sting got his inspiration

  • Because of Mcdonalds :D

  • who would dislike this

  • @supergr5ace88 Dude, so do I!!!! :D

  • I think jeremy bret would not have sung so nicely like this

  • Cry my little eyes out every time I hear this song...

    "If Only...."

  • Also on Wikipedia (search "On the Street Where You Live"):

"In the 1964 film version, it was sung by Bill Shirley, dubbing for actor Jeremy Brett."

  • CORRECTION:

The singer here is Bill Shirley, not the actor Jeremy Brett:

"Jeremy Brett, who celebrated his 30th birthday during filming, was very surprised to learn that all of his singing was to be dubbed by a 43-year-old American named Bill Shirley, especially since his own singing voice at that time was remarkably good." (From IMDB.com - trivia)

  • mmmm this song is so wonderful. it is a requirement of my future husband to sing this on my street if he wants me to marry him. fact.

  • @songoftheriver LOVE! i think i'm gonna make my future husband do that to now. thank you so much for the idea :)

  • This isn't actually Jeremy Brett singing; they dubbed him over in the movie. Which is a damn shame, since Jeremy Brett can sing really well!

  • I remember when I was watching this and I choked and went 'MY GOD! It's Jeremy! But that's not his voice!' People thought I was crazy and I said 'Remember the A&E Sherlock Holmes?! That beautiful beautiful man?!'... they still think I'm crazy, but that's OK. I know he used to sing and I'm so dissapointed in hollywood that they needed to dub some very beautiful voices. Deborah Kerr is another they dubbed.

  • <3 love this song!

  • When I was a teenager I had an LP of MFL. It might have been original cast. It was not this movie version. The version of On the Street I'm familiar with is slower, not so flighty and more soulful. I appreciate the video, and I did like the MFL flick, but this version of On the Street, you can have. It depreciates the song.

  • Best song in the whole movie:D

  • That was Bill Shirley singing in for Freddy Einsford, played by Jeremy Brett.

  • Jeremy Brett isn't singing. Bill Shirley was dubbed in.

  • Jeremy Brett isn't singing. Bill Shirley was dubbed in.

  • I love this song <3 It was in my broadway play at school!

  • Numero uno romantic song of all time

  • Too bad there is not an original recording of Jeremy singing this song.

  • I don't understand why they dubbed Jeremy Brett's voice for the song. I think he sings it wonderfully!

  • @TheBunduBallerina He never actually sang the song. To my knowledge, Jeremy Brett isn't a singer. If he can sing, the producers probably thought his voice didn't fit the character or style. The role is a tenor and he might have a bass voice. I don't know for sure, I'd have to look into it.

  • @MidniteBlackoutFilms he can sing and very well, if you look up jeremy brett and twiggy or several other vids of him he can

  • In the book, Pygmalion, which My Fair Lady was based off of, Eliza ends up marrying Freddie, not Higgins.

  • Im waiting for my one ticket, for that weekend! yay, just me. awesome! and the dinner menu looks splendidly delicious. :)

  • Jeremy Brett played Freddy, but Bill Shirley dubbed his singing.

  • @MidniteBlackoutFilms omg prince phillip from sleeping beauty!! i knew id heard the voice before

  • i love movies like this and im 20

  • I love Jeremy Brett <3

  • My mom had all the popular musical records when I was a kid. We would sing the songs at the top of our lungs! This is one of my favorite songs. Such a lovely voice and boy was he cute. Eliza didn't know what she missed...

  • I loved this so much... this was always my favourite since I was 4 years old.

  • I liked Eliza with this guy, not Henry.

  • Ok, you are my hero my friend! Where on earth did you get these CDs?!?!?! I would love love love to have this one, The King & I, and a number of others..lol

  • @MissxLunaxCromwell Ha ha, me too!

  • Jeremy. <3

  • Yes - unfortunately dubbed over lovely JB's voice

But you can hear how wonderful Jeremy sounded if you listen to the bit before this starts when he is in 'recitative' before the housekeeper opens the door the first time with the whole flower delivery

Thats definitive JB ant totaly beautiful....... RIP JB

  • This song makes me swoon!!

  • Someone sang this in my school and it was amazing. Loving this song!

  • this is my favorite song from this musical

  • Umm, Jeremy Brett didn't sing this--Bill Shirley did. ^^

  • The best song from a musical with a dozen great songs.

  • I just love this song. I sometimes sing it when i think of it. its so beautyful

  • This is not sung by Jeremy BrRRett, this is dubbed by Bill Shirley, the voice actor of Prince Philip in Disney's Sleeping Beauty.

He told us that & expressed his sadness about that, in 2:31 of the video 'Loverly Jeremy Brett'.

But no doubt that he was such a bRRilliant singer.

You can see him *really* singing, in the video: Jeremy Brett and Twiggy.

  • Many people remember Jeremy Brett for his superb portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, but forget or don't know that he was a wonderful singer too. Thanks so much for sharing this,
