  • the professer

  • I love how he just keeps on playing while grabbing another one. It shows that he has done this a lot.

  • He is human! Also, his drumset (and toms especially) seems very rickety and wobbly.

  • one word:professional

  • Das kann nun jedem mal passieren. Wie viele Sticks sind mir schon zerbrochen .... solange man dabei nicht aus dem Groove fliegt, was soll´s?

  • lol!!! he just kept on playing!! :L what a boss!

  • You can replace those unlike broken guitarists.

  • :O Oh my lord. A drummer that broke a drum stick?! Well I never thought I would see the day -sarcasm-

Nevertheless, notice how he never missed a beat and he didn't even seem to phase him?

  • @Numlocq just further proves that he is not human, but rather a robot.

  • @MyMetallica16 you can see in the slow motion replay 33-36 seconds that one half flies off and then he throws away the other half

  • Happens often, and you carry on, it's what you do...lol...double kicks help to keep it sounding busy, haha.... Jiggles because they are susended drums with the rings (DWs)

  • Comment removed

  • Who gives a shit if it broke the best part is that he didn't stop playing and didn't fucking mess up! (alien life form inbound)

  • Muffins.

  • hm so whats he good at?

  • @guitarmasterjar1 ... Drumming?

  • @DaveyDooM92 Sarcasm ever heard of it?

  • @guitarmasterjar1 Stating the obvious.

    Heard of that one?

  • ..like it never happened. That's class and experience. He had three other limbs working, no problem.

  • Neil can play like that.

  • What a tiny drumset!

  • The best drummer in the world without a doubt

  • I'm going to college where Danny Carey went to lol.

  • @DreamsAreLost You don't get subtlety, do you?

  • Like we needed anymore proof of the awesomeness that is Neil Peart.

  • Only the master of drums Neil Peart can break a stick and look professional and cool doing it!

  • when did the stick break?

  • @101somethin1

The stick in his left hand breaks at 0:30. He then drops it, passes the stick from his right to his left, picks up a new stick for his right and keeps playing, having never missed a beat. They show it in slow-motion at the end and I still had to watch it a few times to figure exactly what happened.

They say the mark of a true master is their ability to recover from a mistake/accident without the audience knowing something was wrong. I'd say this qualifies.

  • Only a God like Neil can break a stick, take another one, and keep on playing like nothing happened.

  • Now that, is pro!

  • Me thinks he has most likely broke a few before...

  • it takes skill to keep that rhythm going! just shows how amazing Neil Peart is! :D

  • whose travis barker again?

  • I love listening to Neil, He's so creative, yet his timing still remains perfect!

  • Like a Boss.

  • his set jiggles more than a fat girl's tits.

  • @DustinShaneYounce I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees this. As a drummer, that would annoy me real bad. Sure, one should expect some movement, but dang. It's from the fact he doesn't use any bracing. Just the stands screwed into the base & nothing is keeping the stands from flexing.

  • I had to rewatch 3 times to catch where he dropped it

  • CON CEN TRA TION (PERIOD )

  • Mr Niel Peart, is my hero, that was Jedi/Ninja/Chuck Norris/Batman/Ron Jeremy all in one Drum Solo.

  • @GQflydude if hes your hero why dont you spell his name right!

  • @mattymanten Cause I'm drunk you troll, troll, troll, troll TROLL TROLL TROLL TROLL!!!!!!!

  • @GQflydude understood :D

  • My Dream: To listen to a drum only song made by Neil and Danny Carey from Tool

  • @SokomPwnage Thats not just a dream....Thats massive friggen WET DREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @SokomPwnage Same here, those are two of my favorite drummers.

  • @HartsChannel Dude that's the whole point of the video lol

  • His kit is ornate with inchantments made of precious gems that posess the souls of many famous drummers. The hardwear is made of the golden calf worshiped by the isrealites while Mosses learned to craft drums. Every time Neil breaks a stick, 5 covers of 1 of his song is uploaded 2 the interwebs. Under his hat is the template metronome by which all clocks in the world are origionally set, & standardized to. Neil Peart ALWAYS has wood to bang with.

  • Stick broken.... no... beat must go on!!!

  • The stick hates him as much as I do.

  • @rcboatdriver1234 so i guess not much then

  • @55k666 No the stick flew the coop

  • boss

  • There's a video of Nick Mason (of Pink Floyd) doing the same thing on the track "One Of These Days" live at Pompeii version. Really cool!

  • @Andrewoid95 Except it falls out of his hand, not breaks.

  • @Andrewoid95 No, it snaps in half. He then drops the remaining half, places the other stick in his left hand, then picks up another with his right

  • It's too bad the video and audio got off at the end.

  • Best drummer living!

  • lol he didn't lose his time and he was drumming with one hand!

  • 0:28 watch closely he breaks it and picks up a new one

  • he never lost or broke a stick, you guys are nuts,i didnt here anything.

  • he did lose time.... neil peart is a simpleton on the drums. give me some weckl

  • the best there is!!!!!!!

  • The Stick of destiny is now broken, there is no hope for drummers :(

  • if they ever do get inducted, i think they should be the first band to decline it, and make a case for why it is the biggest joke that it is........

  • i had to watch a second time cause i didnt even catch it 0_o

  • 22 people broke a stick and lost the beat.

    sorry gaiz, i had to.

  • Every musician drops a stick or breaks a string at some time in there life, that is a given. It shows that he is human and not some machine. He is so versed with his sticking, that he picks up like nothing ever happened. That's what masters of their craft do. And all the people hating on Neil, his supposedly chubby pinky carries more talent than any of you talentless critics have in your whole miserable life!!! Suck on it!!!...

  • New Movie Tom Hanks Is Neil Peart

  • When people say he's not the best drummer on the planet, I laugh and show them this video.

  • Man this dam dude can F**king beat some drums !!!!!! Hands Down, the greatest I've ever heard !!!!!!

  • Is that Neil Pert or Tom Hanks behind that kit?? LOL

Man, old Pert sure has put on the pounds.

  • HAHAHAHA! So casual!!

  • The Lifeson, the Lee, and the Holy Peart. Breaking a stick cannot stop the Drummer Almighty.

  • He's Keith Stone smooth.

  • @OnToTheNextOne420 hahahahahahahah!! XD

  • damn, i went through it 3 times before i picked it up, what an amazing drummer

  • Holy shit when I saw the title I thought the was going to break the stick, stop, then eat shit but he kept going with the same rythem!! Love this guy

  • hehe wizard.... sleeve of wizard

  • his sticks are designed to be used on the back, too.

  • It's just a normal part of drumming. We all break sticks, all the time, and have a ready supply of replacements. And grabbing a new one without anyone knowing is just part of it all and not very difficult.

  • his drums are shaky. cool.

  • If You Disliked The Vid Then That Means Ur Jealous cuz U Cnt Do That..

  • @robertovarela13 If you liked my comment then that means that the person who I am replying to has no sense of spelling! :D

  • AND HE NEVER MISSED A BEAT!! IF YOU ADDED UP ALL THE STICKS HE HAS BROKEN YOU'LL END UP WITH A SMALL FOREST LOL!

  • I had to watch this video a few times to notice that he actually did break a stick. That guy is good

  • i bet he piss' excellence!

  • kenapa neil peart suka pake peci??

  • how the hell did he switch sticks so fast?

  • clearly this happens often to him seeing as he has a ready supply of extra drumsticks right beside him

  • OMG he is the JEDI drummer

  • he's da maaaaaan

  • I photographed Rush in 1974 and 1977 in Calgary. To see the shots go to ianmarkmusicphotos (.com)

  • the stick actually commited suicide,,thats how strong neil is

  • the stick actually commited suicide

  • neil peart can beat up chuck norris

  • hold 2 for neil getting frustrated and hitting himself in the head with a drum stick

  • Repeatedly tap number 7 to see Neil fanning himself

  • lol pure professionlaism

  • Why was his drum set vibrating so much. Lol it looked like he was drumming in an earthquake

  • Almost missed it over the sound of how awesome he is =D

  • He deserves credit for everything he has ever played.

He is a very quiet man whom lives a reclusive life and has never taken advantaged of the amount of people that truely appreciate what he had become.

If only Neil were to just do drum clinics he would be passing on more of himself to everyone. I guess it's never to be because it's just not in him to be an out going people person.

The first style of Rock music I learned to play after jamming to Big Band music growing up was Rush.

  • Neil farted at 0:18

  • Not even phased by it. Just casually grabs another.

  • fuck he made a good recover though!

  • Yup, he broke a stick.

  • Chuck Norris would break 3 sticks...

  • i wounder how many times he breaks a stick during a concert?

  • dude that is the best save in the world

  • Good to know he "might" be human! One of THE great drummers of all time.

  • they should change the name of this video to "neil peart does something that 99% of drummers have done"

  • GREAT SAVE NEIL!

  • he didnt even miss a beat if i hadnt seen him pick up another stick i woldnt have even heard it

  • anyone see "the legend of power" yet? comedy about air drumming and tom sawyer is the final song that has killed drummer. neil is in it!

  • Neil Peart was the youngest person ever to be put into the Rock n Roll hall of fame, he is in the Rock n Roll hall of fame

  • These cats arent in the R R hall of fame? WTF. I guess it's stupid shit like back door boys, n britney spears the troubled bitch. No talent assholes being idiots are what gets the show now. What the hell is being shoved down peoples throats.

  • The man is a master. Without missing a beat one bit.RUSH RULES !!!! F**k The Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame !!!!

  • See my video response, at about 1:12 in. Live, in time, and flawless.

It ain't THAT hard to change sticks out...

  • too fast . difficult to see that.......

  • @mtarasiewich i agree, it took me a while to actually catch it lol

  • looks a bit like tom hanks haha

  • The Master Peart!

  • It's mind-blowingly-awesome how he managed to keep the rythem going that perfect!

  • @LiamjONeil95 haha a sign of a true pro XD

  • What a pro!

  • u don't even notice he drops it

  • (0:29) The stick was saying, "This is it, Johnny (the other stick)! I'm out!"

  • JB said it best, He's not human! I think we have been invaded by an alien!, an Neil Peart alien! and so way way way too modest!

  • fucking wobblie drum kit D: !!

  • I use to have a lot of respect for neil pert* But,as a drummer for 30 years,I see this! And its all recorded stuff,He drops stick.the high toms is still playing,(Figure that!) and base drum is playing, legs arent moveing! Get real,Neil* when I do a show,Nothing is prerecorded! Thank you! Chris Johnson

  • @johnsonchris321 are you an idiot? in this video it shows, in slow motion, the stick breaking, and while recovering the stick, he is stil hitting the high toms and snare. he never plays to pre recorded music, and in reference to the bass drum, good drummers dont use their legs to push the pedal, they use their ankle, so you cant see the legs moving. i play drums, and i often get questioned about how i play the bass drum when i dont move my legs, and i tell them its cuz i use my ankles.

  • @johnsonchris321 are you crazy *_*

  • @johnsonchris321

The funny thing is, you took the time to watch Mr. Peart break a drum stick. :-) No one knows who Chris Johnson is, and everyone knows who Neil Peart it. You are an ignorant person.

  • @johnsonchris321

It's called slow motion replay, you complete and utter bell end. There's no way you are a drummer and thought that all of the video was perfectly synchronised with all of the audio.

Either you're lying about being a drummer or are just a total fuckwit.

Thank you!

  • Bro, I have never played drums in my life, but I can easily see that the guy who recorded and edited this video did that for effect. Neil Peart doesn't play to anything prerecorded like he is doing a drum sync.. Why are you dogging on this guy? The guy is clearly one of the best drummers of all time.

  • @johnsonchris321 In case you didn't notice, the snare was off. Thats what gave it the hi-tom sound. I usually solo like this just for the fun sounds.

  • @johnsonchris321 a drummer for 30 years and you think that this could be posibly pre-recorded?

look again, look and listen it`s all there!!

    the magic is there!

  • I didn't even notice, even with the slo-mo replay

  • Also, in the late 70s or early 80s a common nickname for Neil at the time was "Peart the Human Metronome".

  • It took School of Rock, Southpark and Ilove you, Man to bring Rush to the attention of the youth of today? My children were singing rush songs in the back of our car 8 years ago because I played them so much. I caught them mouthing the lyrics through my rearview mirror. I rish I had a video camera because they became conscience of the fact I saw them and never did it again. :(

  • Before reading your comments, I was thinking to the comment I wanted to post and I couldn't help myself but to compare Neil Peart to a God. Then I read your comments, folks, and you had already said it all. If there's a God, his name is Neil Peart. --- At the clip: 'Rush - Limelight - Live in Frankfurt', someone compared Neil Peart to Justin Bieber, commenting: 'You think Neil can drum, you should see Justin Bieber.' If you want to laugh, go read my reply!

  • you can't even hear anything going wrong. He just breaks the stick, grabs a new one and continues the solo without any noticable faults????????????????????????????????????????????

There is no god, there is only neil peart.

  • Happens to the best of us. Literally.

  • Thats what happens when a wand isn't correctly matched to its wizard.

  • How can you dislike a video like this? An awesome drummer who breaks a stick? Ain't much to it..

  • God tried to take up drumming, but then discovered Neil Peart and realised there was no point =P

  • Wow I wish I could recover like that.

  • thy shall lick the balls of neil peart or suffer death

  • smooth

  • Peart is incredible, he makes impossible things looks easy. There is no "going with the flow" in his playing - it's all planned, lots of concentration needed to play his songs.

  • Dammit! How many trees must die!? LOL

  • @billblue58 as much as peart needs ..as much as he needs

  • @isniffedglue if you watch the slow-mo section at about 0:35 you see the top of the stick come off and he's left holding the rest

  • are you sure he broke the stick and not dropped it

  • as Geddy would say... "He beats the crap out of these things..."

  • usually his sticks disentegrate when they break... this one was lucky

  • Whenever you see Rush live, there's always a part where you get to see Neil solo off on the drums like a maniac.

One can only guess how many times he breaks his stick and recovers so quickly.

  • He just keeps playing like a beast.

  • Peart didn't BREAK the stick, the stick was just tired and needed a "break".

  • @bwc3821 *drum kick* lol

  • little slow now, little... snort...crap! snap!

    So far so good....!

    AMDG inque hominum salutem

    /watch?v=jvAfVeb6ZfQ

And life's not unpleasant in that little neighborhood.

    STICK!... i know, wrong song.

Dreams transport desires, the ones who need to get out of town!

    Happy Saint Valentines Day 2011

The Doors, eh? Another one Behind My Camel, ffs.

  • Neil's just in his own world....

  • I have seen him throw a stick on the Presto Tour and the stick fell between the basses and he whip out a another stick just as fast as he did in this video. Like all good drummers, have a stack of sticks in arms reach!

  • haha there is drums BEHIND him. how can you play those?

  • @branman63 he turns around.... -.-

  • @branman63 you obviously have never seen him in a show... not to worry, I will try to explain.

certain songs require certain drum(tone)s therefor, he has created a kit that can turn 180* after which he just needs to turn himself towards the kit that is now facing the audience.

during his drum solos, he turns that platform once or twice depending which end he has started said solo.

The Main Kit is basically made up from normal drums, snares, cimbals, etc. while the rear is mainly electronic

  • Love all the overreactions and folks talking up their own drumming skill. Anyway ...

Neil is a total pro and a constant student. Regarding the latter, I actually wish Alex was, as well. You know, push forward with new levels of education. Not that Lifeson suck, of course. Guy's great.

Peart's drums always sound so robust and full. Part of this is how hard he hits the darn things. POUNDS them. Also, his kit is major deluxe.

At Neil's level, there is no better or worse, only preferred.

  • Breaks a stick and stil plaing :) Neil is awesome!

  • All time greatest!

  • ...and he covered mighty well!!

  • The stick actually broke due to the immense amount of awesomeness from Mr. Peart.

  • @linuxjl You should use that comment to start a "Neil Peart Facts" web-page. All in favor?

    Chuck Norris, move over!!!

  • @linuxjl really, tote, is that how long i met your mother ago jackoff smirnooff station, tote. moron musics lapping the ace of bass mon, it's mon beach show y'know eh like the Roswell alienn shore with the tentacles upon the stares shoulders to my favourite headache chicken of the see arrrrr.....

  • you know a drummer is amazing when he breaks a stick and you don't even hear a missed beat....

  • There truly are many great drummers, but Niel Peart is defiantly one of the all time greats. Just try to imagine Rush without him, Niel is just naturally a part of the Rush signature sound. I love to hear Rush music, they are great.

  • Yeah, I agree he is a percussionist... any self respecting drummer will push them self further than just being a drummer. They will always strive to try new things and different types of drums and different unique ways of playing. I disagree on all of the comments of people calling him god. Any real fan of Neil knows that he really doesn't appreciate those kind of comments. He does appreciate people respecting his work and respecting him as a musician. He is a very Modest and intelligent man!

  • To even call Neil Peart a "drummer" is an insult to him, he is a percussionist, and a GOD among percussionists...

  • I didnt know Neil Peart was a ninja too

  • Ho cares about "Neil Peart breaking a stick"?!

Hes god of drumming even when he breaks a one fuckin stick!
