Hey im debating between the lukather prewired pickguard and the gilmour one. how would you compare the pickups with the mid boost to a full size humbucker
@fuzzymuffPI Well, I tried both of them ( SL20 and DG20 ) and there's a little bit more gain on SL20's 85 humbucker, than on DG20's SA pickup, even with mid-boost full on. But, the difference in gain is very small, comparing to the difference in clarity and versatility. This is where DG20 blows the competition away. It has HUGE and CLEAR tone, and with EXG and SPC controls, its tonal possibilities are limitless. Your choice depends on your needs, but I hope this will help. Good luck!
@kizonni im really thinking about crunchy rhythms through a vintage amp and a tube screamer type pedal can the SA handle it or not really, think free's all right now or some zeppelin stuff. Im aware im not going to get that exact tone, Im just wondering how the sa does some crunch rhythms. Also im considering doing a custom pickguard with the 85 in the bridge and 2 SA's although that would be without that spc and exc controls
@fuzzymuffPI If you're looking for that vintage kinda sound, i think DG20 will do the work for ya more than SL20. 'Cause, in my opinion, every EMG humbucker has a bit too modern high gain touch to its sound. But, if you 're vintage player, the SA pickups will be just right solution for you. And with right amount of EXG and SPC, you probably WILL get that Zep/Free type of tone, that you're after. So, again, I'll give my vote to DG20. :) Cheers !
Hi friend...I´m near to buy de EMG DG - 20 pickups....I wanna know if you can listen some hum from the pickups??...cause I have a strato from 1991 with classic pickups and i hate the hum, thats the questions of why I want that pickups....thanks and very good perform!!!!!
@Kurcano Hello, there. I think I got some really good news for ya : even if you play very high gain sort of sound, EMG DG 20 works perfectly quiet. There's a very tiny, whispering kind of hum if you turn up the SPC ( mid-boost ) but it's thousands of miles away from that usual, annoying Stratocaster hum. Buy it, and you won't regret it. And when you do ( if you do, of course ), share with me your impressions. Cheers !
@Britishspitfire I really think that it's the best active pickups and tone controls combination for Strat-a-like guitar EVER. You can play funky stuff, rock stuff, very heavy stuff.....whatever you like... and it all sounds just perfect. I'm honored that you made your decision about EMG DG20 by watching this video. Cheers!
