I do think B over kills it often w/ her vocals ( not in a good way) B can sing, but it's kind of one sounded, I love A keys, vocals,& songs more b/c they have more meaning, but In terms of performace B is a very talented performer, hands down.
All Alicia is doing is sitting down. We all can sound good sitting. If you are a singer if you can't sing sitting down you got problems. Beyonce stands and dance while singing. She uses her power and everything while standing and moving. This was a joke. If Beyonce was singing sitting down all the times Alicia would sound like an ant compared to Beyonce. Alicia Key is rather talented, i must admit. Her vocals, the fact shes a professional pianist & also, the fact her songs have a rather pure meaning. But all of it, does not come close to the Beyonce standards. Beyonce has a wider range, she can sing high, low, middle, do runs and her voice is absolutely amazing, despite the fact she can also dance and act & occassionally rap. How many grammies does Alicia have. Well i can guarantee Beyonce has more. Please do not even go there. :)

No Comparison... Alicia Keys: Can Sing while playing and instrument, Beyonce cant. Beyonce: Can keep up THE BEST vocals while Dancing all night, Alicia Cant. So the comparison is WAY off and especially with the different Genres. Well Beyonce would sound good singing Jazz etc, she has done it, but Alicia doig Pop, WOULD NOT WORK! Love both the ladies.. I always loved Alicia for everything besides her singing and her songs. I think it's pretty evident that her voice isn't that strong, especially during that Haiti charity performance she did when she strained throughout the whole song, making it so hard for ME to breath to the point where I had to turn to another channel. It was pretty bad.

@missraw Alicia Keys has a raw voice, Hope for Haiti concert may not be her best performnace from a technical standpoint, but her best emotional vocal performance. Her voice is strong and powerful, sometimes she just has her moments just like any other singer, no one is perfect.

Voice and singing are two different things.Beauty of a voice is subjective and maybe she was able to get away with her vocal habits because she has a beautiful tone or timbre, just like Christina Aguilera. Alicia Keys has a 3 octave range and she was able to hit high notes. Her highest note is a B5 in head voice and range does not even matter. A 3 octave range is still impressive.

If you think that AK's voice is not that strong, well that's your opinion because I've seen many performances where she delivered a strong vocal. She has a deep tessitura making her belts sound heavier and more power. Most of her belts are resonant and rounded, but people always pay attention to her bad performances.

Signs of strain would show tension in the neck muscle and that was not evident in that era. She does not even strain all the time and I would know since I've seen many of her performances. So I can say I agree with you, Beyonce sings better POP than alicia all though keys is more of a soul singer which is more my taste and she can handle way more genres than Beyonce aswell. I think that for R&B voice Bey would win. But for the most versatile voice Keys got it. Cause Beyonce can't sing outside of her genre. Keys has touched on blues, acoustic, jazz, etc. When beyond touches on other genres her voice doesn't soften up very well.

I always loved Alicia for everything besides her singing and her songs. I think it's pretty evident that her voice isn't that strong, especially during that Haiti charity performance she did when she strained throughout the whole song, making it so hard for ME to breath to the point where I had to turn to another channel. It was pretty bad.
Not just live, but even studio songs. Like "No One". I HATE the song with a passion.

Voice and singing are two different things.Beauty of a voice is subjective and maybe she was able to get away with her vocal habits because she has a beautiful tone or timbre, just like Christina Aguilera. Alicia Keys has a 3 octave range and she was able to hit high notes. Her highest note is a B5 in head voice and range does not even matter. A 3 octave range is still impressive.

@missraw First of all, during the 2001 debut of Fallin, her notes were not forced. If they were it would sound constricted and during that period she knew how to belt correctly. Signs of strain would show tension in the neck muscle and that was not evident in that era. She does not even strain all the time and I would know since I've seen many of her performances. She barely strained in 2001, WTF! I am aware of her execution, f the scales and the keys of her songs, I 'm a pianist.

She DOES have a strong voice and your view is just a matter of an opinion. Her voice is not small, how can it be when she can resonate in the mask. That is not a terrible song, she has a stylistic way of singing. She often growls and sings with a raspy voice. She has a distinctive voice which people credited her for. That it not a terrible line.
