Michael Kalopoulos, author & historian of religion, dipped 3 candles in white phosphorus. The candles spontaneously ignited after approximately 20 min due to the self-ignition properties of white phosphorus when in contact with air. If phosphorus is dissolved in an appropriate organic solvent, self-ignition is delayed until the solvent has almost completely evaporated. Repeated experiments showed that the ignition can be delayed for half an hour or more, depending on the density of the solution
The Holy Fire is a miracle that allegedly occurs every year at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem on Holy Saturday, the day preceding Orthodox Easter (Pascha). It is considered by many to be the longest-attested annual miracle in the Christian world. It has only been consecutively documented since 1106, previous mentions being sporadic.[1] The ceremony is broadcast live in Greece, Russia, Georgia, Cyprus, Serbia,Lebanon and other Orthodox countries (like Egypt).
We sang those same melodies last Saturday before the procession, but the words were in English. For three days Jonah was in the belly of the whale. Nice post, thanks!
Thank you for yours kind feelings and wishes. Though I do not think that the external form should be identical at all people. People are created with different mentality and have different religious practices. But any religion does our world better.
They truly have to be the most angelic sounding women's chorus i have heard in the russian tradition . . . would you know where i could find some of their music and or sound files?
thank you
and God bless you on this holy feast of the Holy Spirit - May we all be blessed with the Grace of the Holy Spirit....
In my video shown some icons Andrey Rublev (1360 - 1427y.) is the greatest Russian iconographer. The Holy Trinity is Rublev's most famous work and also one of the most widely known of Russian icons.

Isn't this "original Christianity" thing you use for defining Orthodox a bit pretentious? From what I know the first Church wasn't Orthodox! ..and Paul and Peter died in Rome even if Greek Orthodox came before.
This is not an attack on you or Orthodox, I just want to know what you think.
From Wikipedia: * The historical, unbroken continuation of the original Christian communities established by Jesus Christ and the Twelve Apostles, having maintained unbroken the link between its clergy and the Apostles by means of Apostolic Succession and Sacred Tradition. * The ecclesial communion which has never fallen into error nor deviated from the beliefs and traditions of the original Christian body...
yes the orthodox church is the mother church..other churchs was found after many centuries after conflicts.. orthodox means the right thing or the group which stand on the straight thing..i hope he can read the history of church..
Yes...totally agree. The Holy Orthodox Church is "Pre-Denominational" *izzyisozaki* should re-read his Christian History. Anybody studying Christian history will encounter the Orthodox Church whether they want to or not...Peace to all!

It's a very usual way of singing. It's only one true way, orthodox one.

All music done in the Orthodox Church is done sans musical instruments which is fairly unique seeing most churches at least use a piano.

I myself attend a pentecostal church, but I do not find my identy within the church, or within the denomination.
I am a follower of the Way the Truth and the Life, Jesus Christ. The only way to our Father in Heaven.
I continue to pray one day, that we all may be united as one under our Cheif Cornerstone, Jesus Christ.
And when we are united as one body, in Christ, may we look to the Heavens for His coming for a unified bride, and spotless and pure bride.
May Christ be with you.
