@detanor I'll see what I can do. I tried my best but this was the lowest I could get the resolution :( Next time I'll just record the camera with my phone for ya :D
Hey I know you made this video a while ago, but! i have a pretty basic question and i'm not having a lot of luck finding out the answer--(btw--if anyone else out there can answer this question for me, I would be very happy. Ok--Say you have used a basic sliced loop and you open it in the piano roll. Once you have adjusted it to your liking, is it possible to take ALL 4 BEATS (i.e., ONE Measure) on the piano roll and just copy the pattern and paste it again IN THE piano roll?
Hey! Once again, I really like this video and say thanks for doing it. You helped me out a lot. It's basic stuff, but I figured out how to do the filter cut-off thing and I'm psyched about that. Now that I know how to use the chopper in conjunction with the note parameters! thanks
Thanks a very whole much a lot. My only question is...how do you "Stretch" a snare roll, as u described, to a "flow of 32/64th notes"? Chopping? or is it in the "line" command? If there is any way you would respond with a hint, I would totally appreciate it!
Also if you're going to slice and fuck with the amen break you just HAVE to use Renoise, I assure you the work that is being done in this video can be done in a much more easy/convenient way that doesn't cut corners as far as quality. When your whole program is basically a steroid-fed sampler, there's not much else that can beat it as far as slicing.
IDM is not a genre, breakcore is not a genre, they can not be taught and have no 'basic ideas', fuck off. lots of my favourite 'breakcore' has no amen breaks either.
@RoastLambShanks He's made it clear in a few interviews that he uses Renoise in addition to Cubase and a few other things for mixing down. I have one of his gear-lists from an interview he did and he uses a LOT of outboard gear, too, so it's not like he's just using ONE thing to make good music. I think that's what more people need to learn, branch out from staying within just one software, and use things from your daily life to make music. Aphex started out with soda cans, now look at him.
If anyone wants to produce a high quality IDM track, FLStudio is a challenge to use to get a great sound from it without bombarding it with tons of VSTs. The only way to get a rich organic sound is building your own sounds from scratch.
@ilabstudios That's not necessarily true. Fl has quite a few tools available to pull this off, though I will say the best way to get the right sounds is to make them yourself. Which is also very easily done in FLstudio.
@ilabstudios What are you talking about? You can make your own sounds and put them in FL, you don't HAVE to use FL's sounds, and you shouldn't either.
i dont know how you did the the beginning ! How did u use the slicer and why is the drum beat already finished like this and .. i just need the beginning !
under the 'old skool' drum beat loop pack i got, the amen is a different beat, this one is called firefight, or fire flight or something like that, it does sound very similar to the amen though, idk maybe im retarded
Hehehe I appreciate the feedback amigo but this isn't an actual song. This is just a little tutorial to show people how to do something, if you'd like to check my channel and look at some of my actual songs it'd be much appreciated :)
just checked out some of you vids, they're really good . Sorry I didn't mean to offend , I just think rythem/structure are massive part of breakcore/idm . Did you check out my moya mix ? I'm thinking of doing a tut on structure , i think thats what all breakcore tuts are missing.
I'll be honest. I think the big thing about IDM and breakcore structure is that they don't have any. that was kind of the appeal for me when originally listening to the genre. It was so random sounding and still enjoyable.
4 all who asks what kind of music that is! it's called Breakcore, but its NOT an official style! every intepret has his own style, so u can't say:" thats breakcore, thats not breakcore!"
i hope i could help u! 4 more info about electronic music, write me a message!
Ahhh, now there's the thing isn't it. IDM is such a broad category for music. It ranges from so many different leads melodies pads and basslines. I notice that most of the genre tends to lean on the melodic side, emotionally charged. :D
i have another set of video's which is a full walkthrough of a song creation, you could check that out and see if that has anything to do with what you want.
Wow nubbin, when I listened to your album, I always thought you were using dblue glitch, but you do it all manually? I HAVE to give this a go. This has been eye-opening for me, I have a feeling I'm going to be using this method a lot. This reminds me of Aphex Twin, who is one of my favorite artists
Haha, yeah Dblue is an amazing vst, but not the way alot of others use it. The only time I'll use Dblue is for something minor in a song, or to get effects to make single hit drums VIA resample :D
I would love to , but I don't have the setup that I used to anymore and it's going to be alot harder for me to my recording up, I'll do my best to get it working as I've had a couple people ask me now :D
hehe check out the description im labeling as IDM / Breakcore. as in one or the other. Not a single style of music. Just a jump start into how to get the drum styles down for that genre of music. I know what glitch is ;) and glitch music is very different than IDM music with Glitch drums ;) <3
Thanks, I've been trying to figure out the breakcore enigma for some time now. I'll be sure to use this trick in my newer songs, I usually just layered the amen over some gabber beats and left it at that. After the rhythm you just have to add some sped up vocals on top of it all like a big fat juicy cherry :p
I tried to make a breakcore type song...it turned out hella tight but its not breakcore. I made a cool video to it...come check it out and tell me what genre this would fall under. thanks!!
Great tutorial, but I don't like the result. I'm sorry, but it's not my kind of breakcore. Nothing new to me, but I guess you help out a lot of people here ;). Keep up the good stuff!
btw your tutorial was good, but it would be even better if one could see all your steps better and in a higher quality, maybe you could zoom in a bit or something, if you get it with the filming technique :)
i just didn't get how you made this cutoff effect after your first beat, the long thing that looked like this IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII you know, it's hard for me to explain because i don't know the fitting terms, but i hope you get me ;)
in the piano roll, highlight the section that you wanna chop and click on (i think... i don't have the program open) the little wrench icon in the top left of the piano roll and go through the different lists until you find "quick chop". open that and the default setting for it offers even chops of whatever's highlighted (whole, half, 1/4, etc.)... he's probably turned the knob all the way to the 1/32nd... anyhow, fiddle with the main knob until you've got the chop you want.
Please please PLEASE create a Reason tutorial! I enjoyed the vid, very helpful indeed... I've been working in FL for the past 4 years and have JUST switched over to Reason. I incorporate amen breakloops into everything that I make, but cant for the life of me find out how to automate the vel/pitch/effects etc like I can in the FL piano roll
lol good attempt man usin fruity for this takes the piiiiiss, especially if your fussy like me, i used to load cut up amen breaks into my sampler and do it that way, im not a huge fan of fruity slicer, either way nice tutorial and where did you get that "TAKE A BITE OUT OF CRIME" sample id be willing to trade you i got some retty cool ones
I'm glad things did work out though for you, hopefully you have your shit sorted out! I am still trying to sort my shit out inside FL ;) different story!
As I am doing a bit more inside FL, I am very gratefull for showing me how to use the sequencer bit inside Fl, since that helped me alot!
I have become a fan of using the slice tool, and changing the pitch, velocity, events and what not... ;)
srry guys, the tutorial is amazin but I'm not english speaker and I don't get from where he takes that amazing loop that he after slices. Anyone knows where I can find it? I think that could be really important.
LAWL Renoise is a tracker. If you're into trackers that's great. Go for it. Enjoy your horrible interface. Ableton is fine, and the only thing I would prefer with ableton is the way it handles raw audio. But I can get along just perfect with FL now. I switched from reason myself.
To be honest, it's more a matter of what vst's you're using and what not. As far as default effects go, I wouldn't say that ableton has THAT good of default effects. I will restate, that it handles audio much better than other programs I've used.
Renoise is infinately better for sample-based music than "FL Studio". Interface doesn't even come into this. If you are too confused by a vertical sequencer, then enjoy your childish techno-trance DAW =]
but, why not use a tracker DAW? Renoise, MadTracker, so on and so forth... It's a matter of preference (I use trackers, though). But, these ideas are fairly universal, if you have the tools.
exactly, it's a matter of preference. I prefer a sequencer layout, some might enjoy a tracker. Personally, I don't have the knowhow to give a tutorial on a tracker, so this is all I can offer :)
Hey, where do you get your snare sounds from? are they the ones that come with FL studio? That break at 1:10 is cool did you make it or is it preset? im kinda new to FL hehe cheers
I've always wondered how to do breakcore beats/breaks in Reason. Don't feel that redrum is the right tool for that :P Also wondered how to do those notepitches, like in this movie, in Reason & stuff like that. I've seen ppl use renoize and add a effect to every note with some code and I'm trying to find something equally in Reason.

Also, the "breaks" in this video are a classic example of why trackers are much better than DAWs.

but, why not use a tracker DAW? Renoise, MadTracker, so on and so forth... It's a matter of preference (I use trackers, though). But, these ideas are fairly universal, if you have the tools.

exactly, it's a matter of preference. I prefer a sequencer layout, some might enjoy a tracker. Personally, I don't have the knowhow to give a tutorial on a tracker, so this is all I can offer :)

way to yours and it's really fun!
I used kontakt with some tasty scripts loaded onto,
with some parameters mapped out to fruity's MIDI
OUT ch.I had my chopped up breakbeat sequence layed down and knobby tweaking all thru da day!!Nice!Keep up!

A Reason tutorial would be greatly appreciated! been struggling a while now and only have reason on my mac..
lowenf 3 years ago
anything particular in reason ?
nubbinownz 3 years ago
I've always wondered how to do breakcore beats/breaks in Reason. Don't feel that redrum is the right tool for that :P Also wondered how to do those notepitches, like in this movie, in Reason & stuff like that. I've seen ppl use renoize and add a effect to every note with some code and I'm trying to find something equally in Reason.
