  • Liking the triceps kick back - always a favorite for isolation, great for helping develop power in surfers and swimmers when combined with other full body explosive exercises.

  • Close grip bench and weighted dips are the best ways to pack on size for the tris. Kickbacks are a good isolation movement...nothing more.

  • i feel it more when i do weighted dips. which of those two compound movements do you think is the better exercise?

  • If done correctly, weighted dips can really strengthen ur tris and difine them up a bit. But for overall mass...close grip bench is the way to go.

  • There's no such thing as a mass building or defining exercise. All exercises can build mass or definition. Its the reps, sets, intensity, volume, frequency, and other factors that determine whether or not your workout is going to add mass, definition, or strength - not the choice of exercise.

  • Honestly doesn't matter. Neither is "better" - any large, compound exercise using bodyweight or free weights is best.

  • dumbbell kickbacks rely more on the rear-delt for a static contraction at its peak range of motion, making it anything BUT an isolation exercise. Besides, choice of exercise does not matter. You can "pack on mass" with any number of tricept exercises.

  • You mean to tell me that tricep push downs on a cable machine will pack on just as much size as skull crushes or CGBP?...i dont think so.

  • Given that I'm a doctor of exercise science and a specialist in kinesiolgy and biomechanics with nearly a decade of medical education, I'd have to say that the neuromuscular input and pathways of energetics in both exercises are identical. Sacroplasmic hypertrophy, capilerization, mitochondrial proliferation, glyconic storage overcompensation, and all other prerequisites for hypertrophy can be accomplished with either exercise.

  • But dont worry, I'm sure next month's issue of Muscle and Fiction magazine will say something different about "mass building exercises". They always do ;)

  • Theres no doubt that both excersises cause hypertrophy. But from my experiance in the gym and with my own body and how it responds to different things...i can tell you that i don't get the same results when performing certain moves. PS-i dont get my info from flex and M&F, they suck.

  • you can't just use any exercise for tricep growth. i think most people would agree that skull crushers are superior to kickbacks any day in terms of mass. the position of skullcrushers would allow someone to maintain form when compared to the cheat swinging motion of kickbacks
