Cast out let it sit for 3min if nothing move it 20 feet or so & do the same. Stay on the move bluegill are very aggressive & will eat it when the see it.
@InformativeFisherman I can go out on our paddle boat and jig off the side with a piece on Nightcrawler or worn on the hook and watch them bite! If they are hungry, they come righr up to the sode of the boat if i jog from the bottom up! I use a little bogger hook cause the perch are annoying, but when i catch blues, i usually keep em cause i catch monsters! Check em out at darklucario665's channel!
whenever i use nightcrawlers all i catch are bluegills, perch, and crappie. been knowing everything this since i was five xD. on plastics for 5 pound lunkers. no those aren't huge but i am in NJ so those are really big
you dont need a spinning rod you can use a pushbutton. i use spinning but you can use those and i like to use ultralight rods and reels because they make it easier to cast small weights and you get a better fight. just sayin and nice vid
@InformativeFisherman What do you think about salmon eggs as an alternative bait to night crawlers? Have you or anyone else had any luck catching Blue Gill with salmon eggs? I was looking for an alternative bait that won't spoil and that I can keep in my car with my collapsible rod, just in case I run into a lake on my route. Trying to get into fresh water fishing and don't know didley about blue gill.
here in oregon you can just toss a hook in the pond and pull out bluegill 100% of the time. I didnt even know people wanted to catch these things. we just caught them when the bass wouldnt bite and we were bored.
@azurenscens prevents line twist, mainly cuz in the water as ur reeling in, the fish mite pinwheel in the water, and thatll just twist ur line up and be a pain in the butt
im having alot of trouble setting the hook on bluegill they dont get near the hook they just take a nible from the bait, also i was bobber fishing and the bobber went down like 20 times, i set the hook each time and nothing. help me pls. thanks
@steventhekillerfull maybe use a smaller hook? or "thread" the worm on, and try not to have alot of worm hangin so they can nibble it off, bluegill uber steal bait
@ipodfishingreview I have found that after you cast out, if you slowly keep the bait moving by realing it in the fish hit it harder and the hook practically sets itself. But if you are going to do this you might want to move down to a smalller size hooks. hope i helped
@rcplane56 hey It would work great I have a 6'0 quantumn and it works fine I would also recommend if you have the money to get a 4'6 ultralight rod everything you hook on a rod like that fights so hard.
@rcplane56 i myself would use a 6'6 light action rod, i like 6'6 cuz then u can cast a bit farther out if u need,, light action is cuz its sensitive and u get a better thrill
its kinda weird, but ive caught some hand sized blue gills at the lake with a conventional cat fish rig that has 2 baitholders at the top and a heavy weight under them with no bobber so its just at the bottom
haha I hear the Ice cream truck, thought it was outside my apartment for a bit. How deep should my bait be, I remember just letting it sink on tot he bottom but is around the middle better?
Nice video. Only thing I do different is to use an ice fishing jig instead of a hook and split shot sinker and my preferred bait is Berkley Crappie Nibbles.
my favorite thing to do with bluegill/crappie is to go out with a zebco 33 with 8pou line with a curly tail grub or rooster tail cast around submerged brush, logs, or large rocks where bluegill can hide.
good video! Exept theres one thing. When bluegill fishing your gonna want the size 2 hooks from eagle claw. Think you are mixed up on your hook sizes. The bigger the number the smaller the hook. A size 2 would be way to big for panfish. Not trying to be a smart a** BTW.
@invader440 oh duhh im so stupid. lol have you ever tryed the subiki rig for bluegill fishing. its about the easiest way to catch all size bluegill. there like 1.33 at wal-mart. But when using it bring some pliers because they swallow the hook thinking its just a normal chum or something but ive caught HUGE bluegill and extremely small ones too ive even caught minnows on it! =]]
You can use this rig for crappie although i would use live minnows instead of worms. I use fluorocarbon line instead & tie the hook on directly with one size up on a wide gap owner hook...
Yep, i love bluegill and sunfish fishing. Its a great way to spend a few hours. There is a small pond i fish in and it is packed with the little fish. You can see at least 20 fish in less than a foot of water, and they are nice sized fish too. All i use it a slip bobber, chunk of worm, and a small weight, just like he said. Works perfect, i can catch probably 30 a day.
u dont have to use worms, u can take a small piece off a light brown spinner jig a put it on the hook and use a bober [if you want] and just throw it in. have fun guys!
would a size 12 penguin hook be good? and if im fishing at mile squar regionl park and the only trees are a little island with ducks a good place to cast? their are also poles with bubbles coming out
Drop the float , the weight , the worms ,and that stupid ass hook . To actually catch bluegill the size of your hand and larger every cast , use 6lb test line , a hook the size of a pea , and plain white bread pressed on to the hook that covers the entire barb . Bluegill are very stupid fish so don't over complicate things .
i go fishing all the time with my grandpa and we always catch blugill with wax worms we average around 10 per trip, also i dont think you can ever have too much tackle i have like 6 tackle boxes full and like 10 rods and reels
i found that 5 foot rod is beeter at least for me because the bluegill at my pond i fish ,even the bigger ones , hang pretty close to the shore so caring around and caring a 5 foot rod is easyerand is easyer to cast small distences
No - He is correct. Recommended setup is Medium-light to Light action Rod, 4-6 lb line (Trilene XL seems to be most popular), slip bobber, pea sinker (or split-shot) and No. 6 or 8 hooks, with crickets, wigglers, and bee moth larvae being bait of choice (though wax worm and crawlers were top list, too).
your rig is funny lookin and somethin else u really dont need a spinnin rod u can use a bream buster(telescopin) rod or a 4'6 or less UL action with just about 5-6 ft of line with a bobber you can slide up and down on the line then a split shot and about 2 inches down a 6-8 hook and some crickets thats about it much simpler for more info send me a message
What i do when im bluegill fishing is that i use 7X fly-fishing tippet. it is really thin and strong. Also i use fly-fishing flys on my leader. So like 2 flys on the leader and the last hook is a treble for worms. Little minnow imatations work great when you are swimming them slowly. I use an UL rod
to help keep the slack out of the line & to improve your overall odds. But you really don't have to if you don't want some people use there hands so it's all relative.
Around June-July in my lake are really active and in shallow water, i am 13 and just wondering whats the difference between a sunfish and a bluegill, because I can not tell difference when I catch em'.
Sunfish Family Black Crappie, Bluegill, Green Sunfish, Largemouth Bass, Longear Sunfish, Orangespotted Sunfish, Redear Sunfish, Rock Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Spotted Bass, Warmouth & White Crappie
take a kid bluegill fishing and he/she will throw their electronic crap aside and be happier/healthier and learn new things. get off your lazy butts and share in some of the best times in their childhood memories. they'll thank you with smiles and excitement youve not seen before! :-)

Around June-July in my lake are really active and in shallow water, i am 13 and just wondering whats the difference between a sunfish and a bluegill, because I can not tell difference when I catch em'.

hey. im 11 and caught 8 using mealworms! is there anything you can say about that? so that i can improve?
PivotMurdaBaller 2 years ago
meal worms work great,, I guess the only advice down the lines of using those is to use size 8 or 10 hooks depending on if your missing the bites!
Best of fishing little buddy!

We use Mustard single hooks. there about half an inch or shorter. Thanks for the Encouragment!

take a kid bluegill fishing and he/she will throw their electronic crap aside and be happier/healthier and learn new things. get off your lazy butts and share in some of the best times in their childhood memories. they'll thank you with smiles and excitement youve not seen before! :-)
