  • Teddy knows what we should be able say and hear on the Internet. It must be neutral! Thanks God Teddy is smart enough to know what we should hear.

  • Thanks Ted Kennedy! I am always going to be a supporter of Ted Kennedy. I agree he is a good man. Human as he may be, who isn't??

Thanks for all you do TED!

  • Mr Kennedy, leave the internet to free market forces. The people don't need the government to decide what's fair and equal."Equal opportunity doesn't mean equal results."

  • Mr. Kennedy, If the internet is to remain free. Then government must not interfer with what information people find on it. People must to intrusted to decide for themselves what is right and fair. And to quote Larry Elder regarding Equality, "Equal opportunity doesn't mean equal results." Good Day.

  • We need Net Neutrality NOW. Comcast has now employed the use of Sandvine to block uploads on the Bit Torrent network, even though the Bit Torrent network is widely used to distribute completely LEGAL files all the time.

  • The only controls on the Internet should be by the parents and user.

  • Do people really believe that if this legislation is enacted that the internet will evaporate!

  • Watching Ted I can see how JFK would look like today if he was alive.

  • ROSI-Republicans Over Simplify Issues. Go Ted!

  • oh please ted kennedy is a fool democrats dont care about you people. they are the best actors ive seen, for instance bill clinton: we can help the earth by lowering our c02 and use of electricity even though my house uses more electricity then the entire state of tennesee but you people dont want to see that hes a good man and he only wants to raise taxes because hes mad at bush

  • The fact that some pay more and get better internet (including big businesses, folks) doesn't detract from our usage. Let the big companies build NEW infrastructure and charge more for THOSE WHO ARE WILLING TO PAY, and let internet improve for everyone. I like DSL just fine (in the same way I liked 56k), but I'd love to see what the market can bring me in 10 years for the same/lesser price.

  • Television allows Government Inc. to communicate to me. The internet will allow what ever I choose to do, weather creating content or accepting/rejecting use of other content. Stay the hell away from the internet. If cable companies decide to mess with our only medium for unfiltered communication, THEN WE'LL STOP GIVING THEM OUR MONEY and new networks will be created. I have no doubt about that. The ONLY ROADBLOCK to such flexibility IS GOVERNMENT REGULATION.

  • If you enjoyed this clip, check out this great new book. "The F.O.G." at thefog(.com)

    Awesome read!

And guaranteed not to insult your intelligence.

  • I'm really not a Ted Kennedy fan, but he definitely makes sense here.

  • Free internet, what a joke. Can any one, just one, of you "netizens" can point out to me a single aspect of the internet that is "free"? Is it the communication cables? Somebody had to be paid to manufacture and install them. The servers? Some engineer had to be paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to design and program them. Can anyone point to me exactly where the internet is free? Anyone?

  • God bless him

  • All must agree on this much if we are to disagree in a constructive manner about other things. Sadly, this debate is not limited to one country.

    Commodifying one's rights is damnable.

  • There is new legislation in the tubes. This represents lots of hard work was done by the lobbyists for the telecom giants to ruin the internet. Let's hope uncle Ted can stop them.

  • Ted Kennedy is a little bit more literate than Ted Stevens isn't he? Not quite as 'the the the internet is a series of tubes'!

Poor Stevens. He'll never live it down. As for Kennedy, go man go!

  • would give him my vote if i could

  • I agree in the importance of the first amendment as it relates to internet communication. However, the we keep the internet free and neutral is to keep government out of the picture not invite them in by begging them to come and solve our problems. remember that government does nothing well accept spend money that doesn't belong to them. Also there must be a more suitable spokesperson for this cause than a cowardly drunkard that left a young woman to die to save his political career.

  • Ted Kennedy on raising taxes: Hey its only money - especially since its your money - not mine.

  • Amen Ted - Lead or get led...

  • In order for evil to succeed, all it takes is for good men to do nothing.

  • The government making the internet available to all, is you and I paying increased taxes to "give" everyone a computer, and hook up to the internet. Did we pay to put a radio in every home? TV? No, here the government is entering our private lives again. Never have they "given" us anything.

  • Why companies try always to control everything,

    keep the Internet freedom.

    Thanks, Ted Kennedy.

  • This is complete BS people, the internet is already neutral. This is a disguise to end the freedom on the internet that we already have. Complete BS

  • The next time someone tries to make the internet sound like a series of tubes, that tube, along with some Verizon fios wires, are going right up somewhere funny. If I were american, I'd vote for this guy

  • Actually this is the biggest traitor to the United States since Benedict Arnold. He is at the end of his reign.

  • Proud to be from Massachusetts. Ted kicks ass.

  • old ted , still @ the BS . supports Illegals on our tax dollars but comes out with this lame mouth speak . he will do nothing cause of his brothers and mary jo. he's a joke !!! he did vote 4 NAFTA amd every anti-america corp piece of crap law on the books . say 1 thing and do the other !!! you'll R such SHEEP

  • ted kennedy is freedom's finest.

  • Thanks moron. What's the catch? I'm waiting to see what the Kennedys get out of this. Your family has a history with deception.

  • Thank you Sen. Kennedy. You da man!

  • Sen. Ted Kennedy is a great man! He fights for our freedoms.

For those of you that throw what he may or may not be doing in his personal life up in order to slam him is a joke, grow up.

  • Thank you, Senator Kennedy!

  • Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Good on you, Ted. For a change.

  • How about that...what a surprise, he's doing something right. Amazing!

(But he's still turning the Kennedy name into a bad word!)

  • *!!!ANYONE, PLEASE RESPOND!!!*

Supporting net neutrality means gov't will CONTROL the internet, no?

Well, if that's the case, this would mean that N-N will actually constrict your use of the internet, no?

Because we all know that the US gov't is a bitch to the (communication) corporations, no?

    Kennedy wants this????

  • You're a fucking wanker mate. Tax the Internet? You American's wish you could find a way! 'The great firewall' of china does little to prevent anybody who is determined enough to get onto censored websites. This reeks of capitalisation on an issue which people are not educated enough about for the sake of earning popularity brownie points.

  • Absolutely! Thank you, Ted!

  • YAY TED!

  • Net neutrality.

    Freedom and openness.

    Bullcrap.

My comments are going to posted "pending approval".

I get more hate-mail than anybody on YouTube - why are you so special Ted?

    Left-wing censorship-loving scumbag liberal drunkard.

  • Ted is pwnage. Thanks for helping us.

  • Good for him.

  • For those who don't like the man, keep this in mind. Despite having more money than God,and at an advanced age, HE WORKS FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THIS NATION.Sen.Kennedy is tireless and a bigger patriot, America's never seen.

  • YES. thank you, Ted!!!!

  • This has nothing to do with free speech whatsoever. This has to do with regulating the internet. This is a regulation looking for a problem, when there is none. Freedom of speech does not mean somebody else has an obligation to give you the means to express your thoughts. Freedom of speech does not mean you get a stage and a microphone.

  • Nicely said, and respect for Your respect for the liberty of men. I really hope you're not just smooth talking, as many politicians do. But there's no real way to predict the future. But politicians like you help the world being sane, thanks for this.

  • Im shocked. This must be the only good thing he has ever supported.I don't understand his betrayal of American with the illegal aliens and giving away more 20 million more visas on top of the 23 million he wants amnesty for.Absolutely makes no sense why he would support net nutrality

  • how could you tax the internet?

  • This is a good man. I would vote for him if I were able.

  • then you would be fooled just like most of you people

i still cant believe you got them into congress now were really screwed

  • Im glad to see this. As a European Im scared that the Americans can become the leading cause to the demise of net neutrality through "Redneck" politics.

If the internet is ever and I mean EVER transformed for the sake of our future children and their children I will go to the states and protest.

    Go Ted.

  • "If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter."

    George Washington

  • Keep the internet free, its not a series of tubes!

  • Net Neutrality destroys our freedom of speech!!!

  • God bless him.

  • In 2002, the year after the attacks on the WTC and the Pentagon, 39% of eligible American voters voted in national elections. THE VERY NEXT YEAR AFTER WE WERE ATTACKED.

Pretty words are nice, and always popular on the internet, but you need to vote, and not just for the (quasi) president. The people who decided to give Bush the powers he has assumed are the same people deciding whether to keep the internet free, and they were elected by 4 out of 10 Americans.

    VOTE.

  • Kennedy gets 70% of the vote in Mass.

It's only the Bush redneck states that hate Ted. You know - the chickenhawk cowards who piss their pants like girls when the Chimp mentions "terr-ists"

These fascist Bush rednecks have to be flushed soon.

  • go man go!

keep kicking ass for 40 more years!

  • *claps* Bravo. Videos like this always give me a welcomed assureance that there is still voices of reason in this country.

  • A left-wing extremist can't be the voice of reason. And they want freedom for themselves - not for "bigots" "racists" or anyone who disagrees with them. Drop the "liberal" pretence, it's old hat.

  • Bravo

  • Thanks, Ted.

  • Great video, thanks for fighting for my freedom Ted!

  • Teddy, still going strong.

  • How can Ted Kennedy fight battle after battle, for over 40 years and not break under the criticism? His views are so unpopular, yet he keeps fighting. He is the quintessential underdog, and one of my heroes.

  • internet freedom > motherfucker telecom corporations

  • So proud to have him as my sen.

  • I agree completely. Thank you for giving a voice to our views both here and in the senate.

  • This guy seems to know what he's talking about. Unlike another Ted in the Senate(and I think we know who I'm talking about).

  • hate to admit it but Ted's right for a change

  • I'm not a huge fan of Ted, but he nailed it on this matter.

  • The internet is not a series of pipes.

  • dare i say the youtube community supports net neutrality?

  • Very good commentary - glad to see support for Net Neutrality.

  • TED FOR SENATE!

  • well, i can't say i have any idea what you've accomplished or not in all of your time in the senate, but if you get this one right, as you so obviously understand the issue, it will surely have been time very well spent. please don't let your fellow senators and representatives screw us on this one. mercy.

  • I'm a huge supporter of net neutrality and he's one of the few politicians that really understands the issues.

  • did you buy any google shares ? you should, if you didn't.

  • I'm glad he's not a Republican, or he would've been forced to resign after July 18, 1969.

  • I support net neutrality.

  • Who in their right mind would have an opposing viewpoint to this...only people that stand to make big profits from it, thats who. Just like oil companies have done with automobiles. Dont let them screw up our internet...The world has become such a better place now that we have it.

  • Ah, I wish I lived in Mass. or I wish this fine gentlemen were running in my state because I can guarantee you I'd vote for him! He holds a high level of sincerity and he spoke everything I feel on the issue. If you know someone that lives in Mass., call them and tell them what this great representative stands for!

  • Go Net Neutrality!

  • I support net neutrality. And I want the speed of the internet to be my computer's problem, not their problem.

  • Way to go Ted! Thanks for adding your thoughts and your energy to this important issue!

  • The tradition of America is the liberty. Liberty is the main key of our society.

  • Save the internet! Net Neutrality must be enforced.

  • Sen. Ted Kennedy supports Net Neutrality. I agree with him and I hope everyone understands how important this issue is.

  • save the internet!!!

  • good job ted

  • I'd move to Massachusetts just to have Teddy as my Senator.

Rught on, Teddy, don't let the telcos move in and f*ck up the good thing that Internet is.

  • YES! Thank you, Mr. Kennedy! Wish I could say I were a Mass. voter.

  • AGREED.

  • right on. get informed. get involved.

  • Also, does congress really have that important of a role to play in ensuring that a strong internet infrastructure is built? I think we have done just fine so far without congress doling out bandwidth. By the way, HR 4411 doesn't convince me of a mission to keep the internet free and open.

  • Maybe, just maybe, this will pick up some momentum. I hold this issue very close to my heart.

  • I wish I was one of your constituents.

  • he hit the nail on the head with that one

  • It means.. the delivery of data that u and I as a citizen will send thru d web will not be overture by govt, that I-net traffic is fair among citizens and the Govt

  • Sen. Ted Kennedy supports Net Neutrality. I agree with him and I hope everyone understands how important this issue is.

  • I agree wholeheartedly although I am from Ontario, Canada.

  • Thank you Senator! and for voting against the Republican fascist assault on our Liberty and Constitution.

Great to see usage of alternate media to reach people!!!

  • hell yeah, good little speech.

  • what's an "onswer"?

  • net neutrality!!!!

  • Thank You, Senator

  • I'm always a bit skeptical when I hear politicians on broadcasts, but I firmly believe in protecting the rights of individuals and small buisness to operate without larger companies squashing them like bugs. Equal internet for all!

  • good 2 see u here senator. i agree.

  • rawk on!! net neutrality!!

  • I'm not a fan of this man, but he has a very valid point.

  • I agree. You would have my vote if I were in your state.

  • great

  • Free internet for all!

  • Thank you, Senator!

  • YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

  • Yah that's right! With net neutrality I'd rather be controled and safe than have creeps on the internet!

  • Nice

  • Thank you Senator.

  • HANDS OFF THE INTERNET CREEPS!!

  • I agree with him on this one, everyone has to stop the major telecommunications companies from controlling every aspect of communication we have. They monopolize and price gouge consistantly. Ted is right on this one!

  • We need to keep Ted Kennedy free

  • Teddy finally makes sense.

  • All politics aside, and like the man or not, like the others said..he simply makes a very good and valid point. Well said Mr.Kennedy!

  • ummm i hope you people enjoy the fcc...because with this net neutrality bill, they will now get to regulate it much like they do for radio and tv. freedom of speech means that the government butts out, and with net neutrality, you're asking the government to come in and control it.

we are all fucked if this passes.

  • Ummm..I'll reply to this argument as I've replied to the Anti-Net-Neutrality folks in the past and other Govm't attempts to regulate the net.

The US Government, or any government, in the long term, does not possess the power to regulate the Net. So they shouldn't even try.

  • he should be president.

  • We need to keep Net-Neutrality!

  • Not always a fan of Ted Kennedy, but I'm glad to see he believes this. Good video.

  • HERE HERE!

  • I never thought I would so agree with what a politican would say but the man is right we need to keep the net free.

  • While I understand this issue probably won't make it to a formal vote anyway, it is refreshing to find a politician willing to speak out on this issue (and UNDERSTANDS it, unlike a certain senator from Alaska). I usually don't find myself in agreement with Ted Kennedy, but this an issue I think most rational people can agree on.

  • This is the ONLY time I have ever agreed with Teddy.

  • it's nice to see people able to agree on something.

  • No, no, no... we can never be free unless Foxnews has total control of the Internets! We need the Bush administration to protect us from things we should not see and only they should determine what is right and what is wrong. We should follow our leaders blindly, for if you do not trust the Bush administration, you are not only unpatriotic but, you can never truly be free; God Bless America.

  • I disagree on almost every issue with Ted Kennedy. However this is probly the first one in recent years that I agree whole heartedly with him.

  • If Net Neutrality fails, the Internet will become as banal and useless as network television and radio. The companies that pay for medium access will be forced to reduce the quality of content to the lowest common denominator just to stay afloat. They will be the equivalent of cable t.v. Is everyone ready to get theri important news stories from a Britney Spears? Maybe the news will be about a new toothpaste.

  • I trust him... This is for real. Free and open comunication should be our right...Did you know that they turned off public access TV in Phoenix Arizona???

What's up..is this because of the internet?

  • Ted Kennedy is 100% right.

  • You go, Ted! The internet is the last bastion of free speech!

  • 100% Agree

  • I agree with Senator Kennedy on this one.

  • I agree 100% with what Sen. Kennedy said here. We need to fight for our right to keep the Internet free from the control of Telephone and Cable companies that want to control the bandwidth access. They want to only allow the higher bandwidth access to go to the online sites that pay them the most. The Internet started out as our "virtual community" free from the corporate monopolies creed. Now they are loosing ground and want to take over the Internet. NO I SAY!!!

  • It's about the only thing I agree with Kennedy on.

  • Excellent speech. Ted Stevens was funnier though. =p

  • i'm normally not one to back mr ted kennedy, but he's got it 100% right here. i'll back anyone who supports net neutrality.

  • ted's kewl

  • wow amazing

  • I'm Canadian. This guy totally has my imaginary vote.

  • very persuasive and i can really relate to his speech

  • Thank you Mr. Kennedy.

  • very well put

  • It's funny. I'm proud to be from Texas, yet I hate being grouped with the small minded conservatives in the state. But honestly, we need a moderate in the executive branch (even if a couple of terms from now) that can bridge the gap between the left and right.

What we need is a people's president.

  • That is the point, phantasos12. The telecom lobby is pushing for a change that would betray the open and fair nature of the internet. This is not an inherently partisan issue; if you believe in your own equal right and the equal right of others to access the internet then you should also oppose these changes, regardless of the political colors you stand behind.

  • Democrat or Republican or whatever, it doesn't matter what you are, this is important! If the internet falls under the control of one or two companies, it will become no better a source of information than today's corporate run TV stations and Newspapers (for those of you that don't know, almost all media in the United States is controlled by about 5 or so companies). Keep the internet FREE!

  • Woo hoo! Yeah TEd is so right on this one!

I really like that he has his eyes on improving internet line in the US. It's about time that someone notices this : )

  • Ted Kennedy is god. I'd kill for him to run for president because USA would be 200 time better of a place with him the president. I love being from Massachusetts. Ted Kennedy for President.

  • I'm glad I voted for Ted today.

  • I have to say as a Brit hes the type of guy i would vote for, after seeing his to videos on here I have done some reading up on the man and his record is fairly sound.

Im just hoping that any form of law the US passes doesnt effect the europeans that much.

  • is bush listening or should i say spying?

  • I agree with Ted! If the big wiggs get to consume the internet they are consumming the only free speech we have left.

  • What's great about this is they cannot spin it into a "Red vs. Blue" issue. Those against Net Neutrality are simply against democracy and free speech, period. Those 5 media giants just want to control the information in this country, and increase profits, and make the internet as goddamn stupid as radio and TV are. that's what this is all about

  • For all the surprised republicans, if you'd listen to what people say instead of what others say about them, you might find your more sensible political way.

  • Government setting up a new internet structure? I think the free market is doing a fine job without further government control.

  • People, don't stay ignorant on what Net Neutrality is--it's too important for all of us. SaveTheInternet com

  • No, not a new structure. Just a preservation of the one we have

  • I have to agree. The purpose of the government is to protect our right to use the internet as we see fit with our own equipment.

  • Until we perceive ourselves as americans, not as republicans or democrats, then we will be open to good ideas without regard the source of them. We all want the same, make America greater than it is, yes we are going to have differences but that should not stop us from intechange ideas.

  • When are you going to run for president?

  • I thought conservatives were the small-government party? How has this changed so dramatically since 2000? Liberals want to keep the freedom to use the internet freely, and conservatives USED TO want to keep the government out of our business. How is this even an issue then?

Anyone who doesn't just blindly follow the people trying to limit our internet freedoms because of what party they're in, and can look at the situation logically, will support net neutrality.

  • The Internet is the best thing to ever happen to the world in terms of free speech, and unfortunatley for all people around the world, what the american government decides to do next will determine how it works. Sure, most will agree the internet can cause problems (eg: child pornography) but the free and open space for public opinion is invaluable. As an Australian and world citizen i call upon everyone to support internet neutrality as it is fundemental to our democratic societies.

  • I'm glad to see all the Rep comments here. It's nice to see what a breath of fresh air the Dems are bringing to the stuffy GOP controlled Senate. Reps want to control every aspect of our lives, I'm glad to see those of the middle class finally realizing that the "red" party is not the party of the "blue" collar worker. I'm also proud to be from a progressive state such as MA, it's a shinning beacon in a sea of doubt. Long live the free! Long live the Dems!

  • fantastic video :)

  • Thank you.

  • nthfinity, you do realise that giving all this power to a small number of large internet companies is actually moving away from a free market. After all communism is the ultimate monoply and hence regulation often helps to ironically make the market freer.

  • Wow, didn't think a senator would put something like this up on youtube, but it was bound to happen sooner or later. Net Neutrality is all about free speech, and telecom companies are trying to sabotage it. That's a no-no.

  • If Ted Kennedy gets your support, you can bet that this will improve the quality of the Internet. It may also bring down the speed of Cable and DSL and may even boost Internet speeds for Americans! Look at Sweden, the Internet here is capable of so much, while in America, it is very limited! Kennedy could go a long way with this in more than one way.

  • Well said. Whether or not you may like the Senator personally, how can anyone possibly be against unfettered, non-discriminatory access to the net? That is, unless you are an exec at one of the big telcos or cable cos...
