hot towel, cream then shave while the hairs are still lifted by the cream. Foam is total rubbish and doing an upward pass will give you ingrowing hairs so just shave downwards straight and then at a slight angle if you dont get a clean cut.

@ichbingott4510 Not an opinion, a fact. Cartridge razors don't take any skill to use, and they are inferior. They use a lift and tug system that causes razor bumps and irritation. They do not produce as smooth and even a shave. Why pay $15-$30 to get something you can easily do at home by yourself? I use a double edge safety razor, and it has made my bumps and post shave irritation disappear. Shaving with more than one blade is harmful to your skin.

I seem to remember a Bugs Bunny cartoon where Bugs got Elmer Fudd into a Barbers chair and put an insainly hot towel on his face and held him down while he struggled! When he removed the towel Elmers face was gone! It was on the towel! Classic! Nice shop!

I go to this barber and he is absolutely excellent, his shop a real pleasure to experience. When asked about straight razors he told me that they are also illegal in the states due to health code. Razors must not be reused. That's where the eject-able "strait" razors come into play. He said that these are not at all the same shave you get from a real straight razor---That they are way more uncomfortable and irritating and is the reason he chooses to not use them for his shaves.

An original non-removable blade is illegal. An eject-able blade is not, but you will not get as close of a shave with a straight razor.

I am a Barber in Houston. Straight razors are illegal in England. They say due to safety reasons. Maybe because Sweeny Td was from there.(haha). I use a straight razor on the first shave and a Fusion blade on the second shave. Its a art using a straight razor. I do not want to see it die out. I use a badger brush for the cream. I will have to come visit your shop

i have to imagine it's to help prepare the skin and it's probably relaxing haha. i believe he shaves multiple times using different strokes each time to avoid irritation. as a chick who has to shave her legs it's the best way to do it with out getting razor bumps, if your skin's really sensitive. apply lather, shave down, reapply lather shave up.

Again, a bit of a myth. As long as you use the proper lubrication (we use pre shave oil), along with the finest shave cream available, as well as the technique we use (which is a technique that has been perfected over centuries) you will see no damage.

There is an art to a great shave and what all goes into it. On your own, at your home, sure this could possibly cause damage because most men do not use all of the products we do in our shaves. In addition, they may not have the tools or equipment we have. Unless you do everything exactly as we do with the same products and equipment, sure it would have a different result.

That is a bit of a myth. If you have actually done a hot towel shave you would know that in order to get the closest shave, you are better off with the Mach 5 blades.

Yes it takes longer, but that is part of the experience. We do not rush our shaves because every steps allows us to get the closest shave possible and the best experience for our customers.

I have extremely sensitive, sometimes acne prone skin.  For me, the Mach 3 works best. I have tried every razor from the DE, to the Mach 5, and the Mach 3 is the only razor where I can comfortably shave every day if I have to. May I ask which cream is used here, and which pre shave oil? Also, it appears you are using a Mach 3 correct?

That's called a Lather King. It's a machine that dispenses hot foam. Interesting that the barber just uses a cartridge razor. I would think he'd use a straight razor. I like that hot towel dispenser. Neat.

Also because of hygiene and to prevent the passing of blood born pathogens it is illegal to use straight razors because you cannot guarantee sterilization. If you see a barber using one, it is actually a disposable straight razor where the blade comes off.

We prefer to use Mach 5 blade. They allow us to get the closest shaves possible. You would not get as clean of a shave with the straight razor to be honest. A straight does not allow you to contour to the curves of the face and neck as well.

That is a hot lather machine, it allows up to get a closer shave when the lather is warm. For hygiene reasons we do not use brushes. Real badger brushes are nearly impossible to make sure they are 100% sterile

Correct and isn't it also a bit of a myth that applying cream needs to be done with a brush and you need to make the lather from scratch to get better consistency. I never use a brush I think it only adds to the estethics of the shave and as you point out i may take a bit longer but the result is excellent, that's what's it all about thank you for showing that.
