i am just starting to approach so my advice my not be too valuable, but imho it all comes to numbers. After 200-300 approaches you should feel pretty confident, and also devise a decent conversation starter that you like and stuff to say. Until then I wouldnt worry much. Even a simple "Hi I just saw you and wanted to tell you that you are very pretty!" will do. Though most chicks will reject you the moment you say that (based on my experience, not just random guess!), but you still practice
