I think it would be a good thing for Wales to be independent, as England has run the country into the ground (the UK that is). We would have to make sure we left the EU though. They would only push us around and force us to abide by their lax immigration laws and regulations.
remember it was the normans who kicked the welsh off the fertile valley fields to farm on the rugged hillsides.....hence why most welsh speakers live in the hills to this day
@grandslam1998 your mentality is dying out...............a lot of young welsh want 'independence' within a unionised world........cos we can see the hypocrisy of being part of the british union with english dominance YET some english people are against becoming more unionised with the world ideally
Hypocrisy is rank, at least we had a vote to join the EU unlike when edwards armies marched over the border
@3tangle3 I know Wales was crudely anexed by the English over 500 years ago and that some think that Wales gets a bad deal from the Union. They blame the English for all its ills and some even hate the English. If the people of Wales want Indendence then they should vote P Cymru and then PC would put the question of independance to the vote. Yes Wales could manage if they got Independence but I consider that the union of a few countries is the start of a unionised world.
@grandslam1998 States and countries come and go......UK will not be here in the future......some ppl thought the british empire would continue forever
@3tangle3 Wales plays its part in making the UK a rich nation and for most a good place to live. Why undo that which is working well. Stay with the tried and tested! The ordinary English person is not so different from a Welsh or Scotttish or N Irish person. Our friendships are strong. Many Welsh people live in England and V V and for the most the Union suits them. The UK will endure because "it is our last best hope"
@grandslam1998 you have just answered your own question, wales gave so much to the empire resource wise and got little back....its cultures looked down on when they could have been as rich as anything florence offers......if it had been allowed to flourish.....instead the poorer welsh were made to eek off the living off the worst land and lived in poverty not being able to afford meat....hence the welsh rarebit origin
Dont like the idea of being treated like shit and still wanting more, its weak
@3tangle3 Wales has not been treated any different from any other part of UK . Mines and steel works have been closed down across the UK and manufacturing is at an all time low in all the union countries. Yes the working class have been treated like shit but Wales have not been singled out for special treatment.
@3tangle3 Wales has not been treated any different from any other part of UK . Mines and steel works have been closed down across the UK and manufacturing is at an all time low in all the union countries. Yes the working class have been treated like shit but Wales have not been singled out for special treatment.
@grandslam1998 to be clear that i am some narrow minded 'nationalist'....unionists themselves should recognise they are nationalists..I dont even care about a welsh state as there would be shits there aswell...just want progressive tolerant world....where there is mutual repsect of people and local areas have some democratic voice...westminister is not this and neither is washington...and neither is paris who still trying to suppress local variety such as basques and bretons...list goes on
@3tangle3 I like you want what is best for the people. I have travelled to over 50 coutries and know that the UK with all its problems is a good place to live . Like it or not nation states are here to stay. I am an International socialist and as I have said the coming together of nations is a good thing esp if they do what is best for the many and not the few. Yes many people in power are shits and self seeking but is up to the people to vote them out. Politics is a dirty game
@grandslam1998 :) i honestly think anyside of this argument has valid points especially as its multi faceted, but some people reckon the end of the state in its current form (whatever that may be) could be ending.Due mainly to science and technological advances...some ppl think the world lags behind science discoveries..interesting thought, the only thing that makes me doubt these changes in next 20 years is countries that lag behind like sudan, china, n korea (even vast swaths of US to be fair)
@grandslam1998 the whole welsh live in england and vice versa......is no argument.....
..the EU allows free movement of travel between independent states....i am sorry but this argument is baseless...........no one in their right minds would make wales isolated in an increasingly connected world :)
thats the most popular top ten name for boys in Wales btw.
Good old Welsh names like Dafydd, and Rhodri were lagging well behind JACK, CHARLIE and fecking ALFIE!!! in fact barly 27 babies were called Dafydd for 2009
Well ~i'm glad to see PC and labout are installing a sense of Welsh identity into Wales. I mean just look at the most popular names for young boys 2009 (freely available from the Goverment Office nat statistics website) AFLIE, JACK, CHARLIES?? Wales will be like Eastenders in 20 years!!! Name Count 1 JACK 361 2 DYLAN 342 3 OLIVER 319 4 JOSHUA 251 5 WILLIAM 248 6 ETHAN 238 7 RHYS 232 8 THOMAS 230 9 ALFIE 228 10 CHARLIE 228
Once again Welsmen are sold out , this time by the NUM The millions they made off Welsmen and they killed our children of Aberfan How much longer will welshmen let these kind of people shit on us ? People of Wales should rise once more!
PC should be a nationalist movement that strives to make Welsh cutlure and language prevelent for all people regardless of relgion or Race. They dont do this, instead they follow a liberal elitist multi cultural attitude which will only spell utter disaster for Wales
brambling, you plumb! Illegal occupation indeed....let me tell you something. The English people are a cowered people. Cowered by political correctness who now have nothing but a apologetic attitude to all celtic peoples. The core fundamental which is education is now run by Welsh people. If the Language fails and Welsh cutlure receedes like it has in almost 50% of Wales then only the Welsh have themselves to blame.
@TemplarReturn Welsh people speak welsh to some degree unfortunately we cant force colonisers to learn welsh even though the english do it in england.
I wish to God we could be an independent country. I don't hate the English, but I do dispise a country that continues its illegal occupation of my land, the land of my fathers, and the land that I live in. Fe godwn ni eto, Cymru am byth.
2 of the 4 CARDIFF Plaid Cymru candidiates are muslims (i meant to say)
PC candidate for Cardiff West - Mohammed Sarul Islam
PC candidate for Cardiff south & penarth - Farida Aslam
Now, PC are going for cheap votes by targeting cardiffs large muslim population but by doing so they are allowing the mega mosque projects and sharia courts to go ahead
Pakistani Muslim members of Plaid Cymru? Thats terrible news! Hold on. Here in Wales we live in a democracy, Muslims, Jews, Christians, Sikhs, Hindus, we live and work side by side, Welshmen and Women of various faiths.
The real Wales is a fantastic place to live in, sadly, racists want to destroy what we have here.
They shall not prevail, we are Welsh. Welsh Muslims. Welsh Jews. Welsh Christians. Welsh Sikhs. Welsh Hindus.
No, your definitely wrong there, we can make it. We are not stupid children, we are grown Welsh men and women, we can run our own country without interference from the UK.
Rhyddhad i gymru ar pobol cymraeg.Mae hi yn amser cwffio i cadw cymru ir cymraeg a dwi wedi cael digon or sais yn dod yma a cwyno fedra nhw ddim dalld ni yn siarad!!
well lets be honest if you want yoru countries back lets begin splitting into their nice little bit shtey were before uk started putting th esmack down on things?
Cause i am quite sure wales coudl survive as 4 countries./.... Learn your shit before you start spouting bull.....
i definitely think wales would be able to manage if it got independence there are smaller countries in europe that seem to manage ! so why couldn't Wales ? are we to stupid to handle our own affairs ? we could subsidise our economy by charging the british government for useing the military firing ranges and missile ranges or charge for the water they use from reservoirs in Wales and by taxing english people who own holiday homes in Wales !
The other one is the tuition fees.. where Scottish Mps did swing a vote which only impacted on England. Again i agree with the position..
I would rather Students pay more for their higher education, than the general tax payer. People are less likely to waste what they must pay for.
Why should someone on the minimum wage paying lots of tax have to pay more for someone to go to uni and get a degree which gets them a higher salary in the future? its unfair
Most perhaps. But if someone has to work hard to pay to go to uni then they are more likely to take it seriously. If they have it all paid for them like college then many more will drop out or not study hard enough
are you willing to bet on that? im pretty sure if you combined all of the separatists in the uk you'd have at least as much supporters as any other mainstream party. people look at the separatist population in separate sections, like theres welsh separatists and scottish spearatists but have you ever looked at them in one group?
Im pretty sure that the unionist party vote would still be larger.. but i will take a look now just to check.
The thing is the only separatists that get alot of votes are Scottish and northern Irish ones. Welsh ones get some, English ones are non existent and a few vote for the cornish separatists.
Will take a look now and add up totals from the last general election to get a general idea, although i accept more votes would go to the SNP in the next election
i guess that will settle it wont it. we are all just going to have to wait for the referendum results next year for closure but whatever the scottish people vote for is final, so all we can do is wait.
Its true if theres a referendum the results will be final and the UK government must respect that, but i wouldnt bet on their being a referendum. The unionist parties in the Scottish parliament have the power to block it and intend to at the moment
only 35% of Scottish people voted for a party that would introduce a referendum. 60% voted for a party that would keep the UK together. So there is not a political mandate for a referendum in truth
35 percent of scotland is still alot of people who would like to see scotland independent, buuuut its not a majority unfortunatly so although one day id like to see an independent scotland im not to confident ill see it in 2010. but if interest is still there and continues to grow like it has been i believe in inevetable, just like quebec, accept in quebec its a majority.
If there is a majority i Quebec that want independence, does the province government have the right to hold a referendum on it or cant they??
As for support here, its questionable if support for independence is growing or not, recent polls show a decline in support for independence.. the economic crisis resulting in Scottish banks having to be bailed out by the UK government has damaged the economic case. UK spent more than the annual Scottish parliament budget to rescue 1 of the banks.
no i dont think they do, i think it has to go through the national parliment then singned by our hatian seal heart eating govener general. but quebec has been asking for more control of the province. theres alberta separatists now aswell who are rapidly gaining support, they dont wish to share there oil with the rest of canada. what ever happens i just hope we all dont become part of the states, in canada weve had a problem with electing a slew of incompatent leaders.
Separatism is a huge threat to sovereign states, thats the trouble where does it end.. If they want and get independence what part is next.
Thats why all separatists must be crushed and defeated. This is a global struggle, should separatists in Scotland win then it will inspire separatists in Spain, Belgium and other nations that independence is possible.
I dont want the UK having to be an experiment or example for them. Separatists stick together, pushing each others own pathetic cause.
well its not pathetic when places like basque country or scotland look for independence and even quebec, because there are cultural social and economic reasons for it. but places like alberta is just, well ya its alberta there no different from eny other english speaking province in canada accept for the maritimes and newfounland witch have accents, but the maritime one is only in isolated towns and a few people in nova scotia and newfoundland speak gaelic but thats nearly dead.
i see no difference at all aslong as its not an occupation and the people are not being oppressed.
There are plenty of differences between the different counties of England. The UK is exactly the same, except we have allowed distinct identities to remain such as Welsh and Scottish.. now thats great and fine with me, but we can also all feel British. Sadly due to government failures in the past and certain developments in the last half of the 20th century.. its allowed separatist cause to grow.
Are you still trolling Celtic video's - you had your chance with the Belfast Agreement to show good faith and you blew it. You chose the path of greed, warfare and imperialism. What the truth is is the British cannot stand alone without the Celts to rule and sponge off.
in the future if the government decides to act we can put this separatist problem to bed. Theres also a very interesting example of the Scottish Youth Parliament.
in 2007 when they were putting forward their manifesto, some wanted to include "Scotland would be better off as an independent nation" or along those lines. in 2007, 48% said yes to that.
Last month the SYP met to celebrate its 10 years. Asked if Scotland should become independent.. 57% disagreed.
as for quebec there excuse was it was too small a majority, canada is still a thinly sewed quilt in my opinion. polls are often unreliable, and the scottish youth parliment isnt that just a few politically interested scottish kids? i saw a video of them once talking about exactly that. but they dont speak for whole nation or is it a thing were kids part of this group or not vote on issues? if so i think more nations should have this.
So a majority of people in Quebec voted for independence and the canadian government ignored em? wow lmao, wed be crucified if we did that here.
I dunno how many took part in the vote, but most of their members were there so i presume most took part in the vote. They dont speak for all of Scotlands youth, but its nice to know many of the future possible Scottish MPs currently support the union.
the youth is the age group im most concerned about.. some unionists were nationalists at one stage
54 percent i believe it was in the 90s when the referendum was held and yet nothing happend LOL so yes i suppose they ignored them witch i donnt agree with if they want to go then go ahead, leave just dont come crying back to us when ure no as economically rich as you though youd be. although i think scotland would fair much better than quebec. the energy grid plan with norway and the windpower i think will eventually make up for the oil issue.
Im certainly prepared to accept in the case of Scotland because of oil it would do ok, altthough i still think Scotland is better off in the UK and figures back up the fact Scotland isnt being ripped off and wouldnt suddenly have billions more if it left the union.
But in the case of Wales, there is no doubt.. Wales seriously benefits from being part of the United Kingdom
Northern Ireland is very different to the rest of Britain though. Northern Ireland uniting with the south would balance it
what do you mean balance it? and i think the overall reason scotland should be independent is to repesent its self on the world stage, and to choose its own destiny and to not have nuclear weapons being hid there.
Well in the case off Northern Ireland it would be able to unite with a well established nation already, its very different to becoming an independent country for the first time in 300 or 800 years and ofcourse a united ireland makes sense the way the UK does for the island of Great Britain
Im not too concerned about Northern Ireland. Its for the people of NI to decide, if they want to remain part of the UK (which they do) then they must be given full support. If that changes, then so be it
Its all very well saying Scotland should represent itself on the world stage, but the UK has far more influence than an independent Scotland ever could.
Scotland is still able to have external relations with other nations like on trade.. Scottish government go on trade missions etc..Theres a Scottish Government Counsellor in the British Embassy in the USA. Its not like they have no representation.
As for nuclear weapons. Most Scottish MPs are labour. Labour party supports nuclear weapons.
the former labour first minister, had joined the SNP when he was young. Thankfully people see past the lies and the separatist propaganda and grow up.
are you talking about a mconnel guy? LOL he visited here once and tryed to intice scots canadians to return to scotland(didnt say that directly but i got the drift lol) i have to say i wouldnt mind that but i wouldnt leave now. i think he was talking about ancestry visas, i have one but ive got no idea what use it is.
Yep thats the one, he supported the SNP in his youth but quickly left. People can be mislead at that age, happens with the extremist parties here aswell. Seducing and corrupting peoples minds.
Looking at the separatists in each part of the UK separately helps the separatists because they form a larger share of that areas vote. When u look at the UK as a whole, the majority of voters (who are English) vote mainstream.
So looking at 2005 General election..
The Irish, Welsh, Cornish, English and Scottish separatists got about 1 million votes.
Compare that to the Lib dems (3rd largest mainstream party) = 5.9 million
Conservatives (most pro union mainstream party) = 8.7m
Free Carparking results in millions of pounds of revenues lost from NHS hospitals, id rather have more doctors and nurses thanks.
I think u will find when the funds become tight (unlike these past 10 years), wales and Scotland will have to rethink some of these wasteful policies.
How on earth do u justify giving millionaires free drugs? its blood pathetic and laughable. It just means NHS wales has less resources for other things in the long run.
Lmao, certainly not a majority. If we combined all the votes separatist parties got in the UK i doubt theyd match that of the labour party or the conservatives separately the two main unionist parties here..
Separatists are a minority. Their goal may be the same but they all say different crap. English separatists say Scotland is subsidized, Scottish separatists say England steals Scotlands oil.. they are both wrong and all pathetic.
england may not be stealing scotlands oil but the uk is. if scotland were to be independent when that oil was discoverd what country do you think would have gotten the rights to it?
The UK is not stealing Scotlands oil.. the figures show that whilst the oil is considered a UK resource, Scotlands expenditure closely matches revenue raised from general taxation and north sea oil revenue.
We can not start independence off from a certain point that separatists want.. The fact remains independence today is not a good choice for Scotland
most people pay for drugs, only those who need help or are pregnant / over 60 etc get help.
Life isnt fair. Its not fair for someone on the minimum wage to have to pay more for a millionaire to get drugs. its not fair that a person on the minimum wage in a bad job paying everything towards someone going to university so that person gets a better job / salary.
The student should contribute the most to higher education although ofcourse primary / secondary must be paid in full for everyone.
ya i looked into this medical care issue and ill give you that one, its unfaire for someone who dosent make to much money in the first place to pay for a millionaires drugs. but no countrys perfect. i mean in canada we tryed to go into a free trade agreement with a country twice our size. that was smart -_-
Agreed no system is perfect, im a supporter of "free health care", we certainly shouldnt restrict rich people from being allowed to be treated on the NHS, but drugs are so damn expensive we do need to be careful.
In time they may back away from free drugs for all. easy to allow for it during the boom years, not so easy when cuts have to be started
NAFTA is an interesting response to the EU. atleast in the EUs case there are several reasonably equal sized economies not 1 that totally dominates
The UK government and majority of English MPs have more sense and we do not go in for stupid populist policies like Free meds for all / free carparking.
in England.. anyone under 16, over 60, pregnant, on low income, unemployed or disability benefits, 16-18s in full time education, and some other groups get free drugs.
so we only ask working age people who do not need benefits to pay a small fee for their drugs. This prevents wastage, and its not lots of money, less than 2 hours on min wage
how is free medicine stupid! always thinking with your wallet arent ya? and the right to an education and to learn about the world sould be free, who has the right to charge someone for learning?
Free education and healthcare is wonderful, but lets not forget its not Free.. people pay for it through taxation.
In the UK we have the NHS, free medical care for anyone no matter what their wealth. However in England like the other parts of the uK (till recently or soon) asked people to pay a small fee towards drugs
Only asking those who can afford to pay end up paying and those who need help get it free. Its a choice, More doctors / nurses or free drugs for millionaires? i know what i want
I am a unionist and i support the monarchy, so i disagree with two things this video is promoting. These propaganda videos aim to destroy my country, u can be damn sure ill watch them, comment on them and try to correct people when they are mistaken or trying to mislead others.
As for the English separatists, there are some but again a small minority. As i said before, im far harsher with separatists from my own part of the country than i am with Welsh or Scots. The English ones are pathetic
There are English separatists, but they are a tiny minority and parties which support such thing get very few votes.
As for handing over power to Brussels, the separatists would do even MORE than what the British government does. The UK is the 2nd biggest net contributor to the EU budget, we get many opt outs because we have influence.
AN independent Scotland or Wales would join the euro and bow to the wishes of Brussels more than the UK ever would.
LOL thats the conventional separatist parties sure but i dont support them, id want an independent country that does not join the eu, look at norway, not an eu member and doing just fine.
Well Norway isnt an EU member but it does comply with alot of the rules people have a problem with. (for example immigration policy for Norway about EU citizens is the same as for the UK), no limits.
No major party seeks independence from the UK and EU. If they do it weakens the case for independence even more lol.. I would love for the SNP to be anti EU, but they are about as pro EU as the lib dems here who love the EU. and want a federal United States of Europe.
what norway does is norways business if youre not an eu member you dont have to comply with eu laws and regulations. is the snp un conventional....no although they are the closest thing scotland has to independence i dont support keeping the queen like salmond would or joining the eu like salmond would, point being is that there are really no partys out there that i really like or agree with.
Ah but Norway whilst not being an EU member does comply with alot of EU legislation because its a member of the European Economic Area (like all EU nations and a few others). For example, its EEA citizens who can live / work in each others countries not EU citizens. So despite Norway not being a member of the EU, i have the right to live / work in Norway, the way that Polish people can live / work here.
Salmond wouldnt keep the Queen, he just doesnt have the guts to take the monarchy on.
The point surely is if u care about something strongly u will not vote for a party which totally disagrees with ur point of view. Sure noone will agree with every policy of a party, but the core policy of Labour, Lib Dems and the tories are for the union to continue..
If u dont want it to continue dont vote for them, its very simple otherwise they can simply block any attempts by separatists to impose their will
salmond and the queen get on nicely i hear, so i do believe salmond would keep the queen, and scotland voted for a separatist party theres another "clue" for you. and like i said they wouldnt have to join eny of those organizations u mentioned.
35% voted for the separatist SNP, 60% voted for unionist parties. The SNP won in 2007 with ONE more vote than Labour, and they won it with a majority of 48 votes.
The SNP got MORE votes in 1999 than they did in 2007, so its not like 100,000s started voting SNP which got them elected... its just labour voters stayed at home.
As for the Queen and Salmond, yes ive seen the together, if Salmond cared he would tell his party to show more respect for her. Hes a closet republican deep down.
or hes not too concerned about what others around him think?? calling him gutless is a bit much dont ya think. i think i smell a little resentment about towards the snp? does it bother you at all that the scots get free medicines and that scots have a say in what happens in england but not vice versa? that can all be fixed with a dissolved english parliment you know. english helping egland and scots helping scotland.
He should take responsibility for his parties actions, if he supports the monarchy he should defend it not say we will put it to a referendum. This is his problem, his excuse is always "put it to a referendum". like on the Euro, it has huge implications and the SNP would adopt it at some stage but they never mention it and try to shake it off by saying wed have a referendum on it.
As for resentment.. i hate the Scottish National Party and any party that seeks to destroy the United Kingdom.
I hate the SNP because they want to destroy my country. He will put it to a referendum, if he was a strong supporter of the monarchy he wouldnt think there even needs to be a referendum on it.
He knows that to take on the monarchy and the union at the same tie would screw his plans. Even if they got independence had a referendum and kept the Queen... it wouldnt end there, theyd seek to undermine it and when the Queen dies like with Canada ./ Australia the monarchy is gone for them.
I do not resent Scotland, or the SNP / Scottish parlaiment for introducing different policies, that is what devolution is all about and i attack any English moron i come across ranting about such things.
The certain policies were there are differences like "free medicine" or "free carparking" and no tuition fees for students, i agree with Englands position.
Why on earth should i pay for a millionaire to get free drugs, all who need help in England get free drugs.
that may be true but i dont think you would be complaining if you didnt have to pay for drugs. as for scottish universities suffering, scotland has some of the best universites in the world and i cant begin to fathom why you wouldnt want to have a devolved english parliment, it would greatly benefit you.
The people who need help to pay for drugs in England get help. The policy in Wales gives everyone including millionaires free drugs, sorry but i think thats a waste. And Wales loses out on millions every year because of it which they could spend on more doctors and nurses.
Scotland does have good unis, but they have said they are struggling to pay and maintain standards, they need more government help.
I can see why some want an English devolved parliament. I just do not think we need one. The majority of MPs in the British parliament are English, most scottish mps in the majority of cases dont bother to vote on English matters and if the tories win they will impose a rule only allowing English MPs to draft legislation at a certain stage.. which will solve some of the problem.
Why create a new layer of government which will cost millions that we do not even need? Its also a very risky step
I really dont think it would greatly benefit England. They created a London Assembly, which is basically a complete joke and an extra layer of government which wasnt needed.
Im a British unionist. The union is more important to me than a few silly benefits for England. If we created a parliament today with a first minister, there are HUGE constitutional issues at play. An English First Minister would be too powerful and could challenge the British prime Minister.
If the Welsh want full independence, economically/militarily free from England, then they should go ahead and take it. It's a clearly-defined country, with its own traditions and customs - perfect conditions for the creation of a free country. If the Welsh resent the Union, then they should go for it.
The majority of Welsh people dont resent the union, they are proud of their welsh culture, but that is very different to the minority who support a break up of the United Kingdom.. Especially Republicans who seek to remove the monarchy as well
Out of 40 Welsh MPs in the UK parliament only THREE are separatists. I think the will of the Welsh people is very clear. The fact the Conservatives (the clearly more pro union party) got more votes than labour in the EU elections, is a clue too
Its true they dont always vote just on the independence issue. But if a separatist votes for a unionist party, he cant complain when the unionist parties block attempts to hold a referendum.
over 70% of the votes in Wales go to parties who want the status quo, there for Wales remains part of the UK. the only way to change that is to vote separatist.
i suppose ure right but in my opinion the media has us all in a gridlock making the majority vote for conventional no change at all parties, like look at obama do u really think other than socializing the states hes really gonna make eny change? no he wont.
Wales is part of my country, i have every right to comment on it. But ofcourse it will be the job of Welsh unionists to deal with you separatists when the time comes.
Wales is part of the United Kingdom just like England is. Separatists seek independence from the UK not from England.. otherwise the English separatists u mentioned are seeking independence from England too.
The people of Wales can decide, but whilst over 70% of their votes go to unionist parties, they clearly dont care too much about breaking up the UK.
Sorry - but the fact you have to resort to the statement 'Her Majesty doesnt want to see her realm destroyed because of you separatists' kinda-shows how much shit you speak.
Wales is destined to be run by the Welsh - you can't and won't stop that.... trying to use meanial arguments about what a figurehead monarch may think makes you sound like an idiot...
When we're free I have no doubt we'll be financially richer with a stronger culture and national identity.
So do the majority of other people in Wales which, in a democratic country, is possibly the only real thing that matters.
I hope we the Welsh will always be friends with the English be in the EU and probably join both NATO & the UN but on the issues of fundamental importance, we want to be a country in control of our own destiny.
Being English you may never understand the reasons but almost all Welsh & Scottish people know exactly what Im talking about.
Free your land from what? Wales has the ability to become independent if thats what you want, Wales isnt an occupied nation it is a country of the United Kingdom.
You simply have a point of view, one that is not held by most Welsh people. Please explain to me why Wales is any more of a country than the UK itself is? Was Wales formed in a democratic way? ofcourse not, it was formed in the same way England and Wales joined together.
the problem with the so called welsh mp in the english parlament is that they all forget why they got elected in the fist place,i.e. to serve the welsh people and to keep our identity, now if someone with a set of welsh balls got into power and put his/her life on the line for a free wales then maybe just maybe people will follow and demand inependance.STRONG TOGETHER WEAK DIVIDED!
Well i agree with ur last comment. Stronger together weaker divided. That is exactly the case for keeping the United Kingdom, Wales would be a small nation with a very bad economy if it declared independence.
Atleast in the case of Scotland because of its oil wealth there are possible economic reasons (although flawed) for independence. In Wales, this is not the case.
Welsh MPs and AMs have protected and strenghtened Welsh identity in recent decades. Explain why you need independence?
Ummmm. because we want to run ourselves - not be dictated to from Westminster.
Explain why you think, as an English man, you believe a parliament where 85% of the MPs are English, should have almost total control over Wales & Scotland?
Im a British citizen like you. My country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Wales is part of the UK, as is Scotland. Devolution means Wales is able to run its local affairs (more will be transfered) . Lets not forget we currently have a Scottish prime minister running the United Kingdom. Not an English one
We never signed up to be in the 'union' - you English invaded us, banned the speaking of our language and did everything in your power to eradicate our culture and traditions.... even with puppet 'Devolution', Westminster effectively still control all the countries on our island - but not for much longer.
Wales belongs to the Welsh... not to westminster or England. Now kindly naff off and take your prince and his dog ugly wife with you.
Can you tell me when the people of wales signed to be Wales? This is the thing you separatists question he status of the United Kingdom, i think u need to check the history of Scotland and Wales formation too.
Wales is part of the United Kingdom and until the people of Wales say otherwise there is nothing you can do. Looking at the vote the other day u going to be waiting many decades before PC manage to challanage the union.
And say we will! - it's not just PC, but the likes of MAC and FWA.
I don't think violence serves anyone - but if England continue to occupy our land and refuse to let us govern ourselves.... I know there are a lot of patriots here who're ready to fight for our nation's freedom and who knows what will happen.
Lmao, wow you are threatening violence against the state? Do ur worst, such actions simply damage the chances of an independent wales :)
Wales is part of the United Kingdom just like England is. England does not "occupy" Wales. Infact right now England and the UK are fully run by a Scottish prime minister.. Wales / Scotland / Northern Ireland have their own devolved administrations.
Long live the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. - Down with you separatist scum! =)
How dare you call anyone who is looking for independence for their own nation as 'scum'. I think you are the scum, if anyone is. If you are standing in the way of democracy, that is scum. It's up to the people of Wales to decide the best future for their own state. It might be patronisingly just called a 'Principality' by England but it will be a nation among nations once again hopefully.
I am not standing in the way of democracy, he is going against the people of wales wish to remain part of the United Kingdom. Hes a separatist and those who seek the destruction of this country are owed no respect.
I think you will find the British government calls Wales a country and has for some time, the term principality is rarely used
You need to state out of internal British matters which you clearly do not understand. There is no case for separation, and its simply not going to happen
I need to stay out of British affairs that I don't understand? Don't kid me with your BS! What don't I understand?! That was a rhetorical question, by the way. Just because you don't like my standpoint! lol
Lol, well for a start u have said the UK is just a political union not a country. That is complete crap. The European Union is a political union, the United Kingdom is a country.
Sure it may be made up of 4 countries, but the UK is a country and a sovereign state.
p.s. you didn't answer my question why you think, as an English man, a parliament in England with 85% of it's members English... should have almost total control over Wales.
Would you except it if it were, say, Brussels having total control over England? Foreign MEPs deciding England's Taxation, Spending, defence, foreign affairs, constitutional head of state, etc, etc, etc???!!!
I did answer your question. Our country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. We are all British citizens. This is not about Englishmen or Welsh..we are British check ur passport.
The UK is currently governed by Labour, the part of the UK i live in hasnt elected a Labour MP for decades and yet they are still incharge.
Look at the USA, Deeply divided with red states and blue states and yet they have one president and one federal government.
us 'sepratists' - lol. are you really so dumb that you think Wales, England and Scotland are all the same?! the united kingdom is a POLITICAL union... it's not a country, but like the EU...
Thus why I didn't win the world cup in 1966.... thus why you didn't win the Grand Slam in 2005 & 2008 (oh yeah). Thus why I'm Welsh, Not British.
Get over it - over 50% of people in Wales want wales to be free of Westminster rule - it's gonna happen. Period.
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland IS a country. Infact it is more of a country than England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland today because it has international recognition.
The UK is one sovereign country, this is not going to change and you separatists will fail :)
You didnt win the world cup in 1966, that was England. The FIFA statutes say clearly the British Football Associations are treated as a special case and field their own teams.. look it up
When Andy murray wins in tennis matches, hes Scottish but he plays for Great Britain. When Lewis Hammilton won the Formula 1 championship last year, hes English but he won it for Britain.
When Chris Hoy won several gold medals at the olympics.. hes Scottish but he won for Britain
Over 50% of the people want wales to be free of westminster rule.. LMAO what a bloody joke. If thats the case perhaps you should tell the majority of welsh people to stop voting for unionist parties?? are they stupid?
Andy Murray's opinions are on record.... as are a lot of the Welsh athletes who had compete for 'Team GB' in Bejing. As are the Welsh & Scottish footballers who don't want to compete in 2012.
As for the opinion poll. Google 'walesonline Please, sir, can we have some more?' ... 52 per cent of those polled think it is time to break from the Union.
So please- loose the arrogance. Most Welsh people don't have a problem with England... but we do have a problem being assimilated into the union.
Andy murrays opinion is on the record, he doesnt have a problem playing for Team GB.. this issue was just a misunderstanding because he told a journalist he wanted any team to win the football but England. That doesnt mean they are against the UK
As for the welsh athletes please name the separatist welsh athletes who have made such complains? Perhaps they should be deselected for the olympics. On football, the reason they dont want to play for a team GB is they are concerned about keeping teams
Google 'Tom James welsh flag' to read what he did after winning the gold in the olympics. And while you're at it... watch the olympics homcoming parade.... look at the flag the olympic medalists choose to drape on their backs (I'll give you a hint... it aint the union flag).
and - look at the memorial to the fallen Welsh army heros in the Iraqi homecoming (google Welsh soldiers in homecoming parade)- what flag did they choose? Or google 'last tanks basra' to see what flags they flew there.
Umm im not denying people are proud to be welsh, just as people take pride in being scottish or english but that doesnt mean tthey are all anti British.
I looked up Tom James, he ran to wave a welsh flag and??? A quick google search which leads me to Glyndwr University about a visit by Tom James says...
"Tom said: Im proud to be Welsh, proud to be British and this is a brilliant project - exactly the sort of thing which we need in the run up to London 2012."
You also make it sound like the UK or British olympic association didnt want people waving Welsh or Scottish flags, if you read the article on that walesonline that u mentioned before it says clearly its because the Chinese authorities banned all flags which wernt Olympic member states because they were worried about tibet flags.
All of the points you raise suggest you cant be both Welsh and British, im sorry but thats just not the case and has never been.
Ofcourse if the UK broke up we would lose our power and influence over world football, something separatists dont understand sadly.
Lmfao, im talking about proper opinion polls. Lets look at how people voted in Wales, the majority ALWAYS go to unionist parties, they cant be that desperate for independence there.
In the case of Wales, arrogance against you separatists is justified because everyone including PC accepts the majority dont support independence. Its PCs "long term goal"
You're seriously trying to say people vote for a party just because based squarely on their desire to be in or out of the union? if that's the case - Judging by the last election results 85% of England ALWAYS go for parties that support the EU.
Look, I don't know how to say this.... it's not you - it's us. England's been great... and, we've enjoyed our time in union but we just want our space to go and experience things on our own.
No, what im saying is if you want independence dont vote for a party that makes it very clear they support and will defend the union. If you want independence vote for a separatist party because thats the only way it will happen. Thats commonsense
On the EU point, indeed they do which goes to show the majority are not strongly against Britains membership of the EU< otherwise theyd ote UKIP
I have no problem with you taking pride in your great country Wales, it doesnt mean u need independence
Ok - so you allow us to take proud in our country.... but not to have any of the freedoms any other proud country enjoys such as having the ability to run our own affairs for the benefit of people in Wales?
Do you think us in Wales are somehow unable to govern ourselves without the 'help' of Westminster?
When we're independant we may well be close allies with England & Scotland - but it'll be our choice.... and our choice alone.
I think that in the case of wales especially there is overwhelming evidence that it would be better off as part of the United Kingdom than as an independent small state.
Lets not forget atleast on Scotland there is an economic case for independence because of oil (although its deeply flawed) Wales doesnt have a core resource like oil which could fun its independence.
You only consider urself welsh, thats fine but whilst the majority support being part of the UK, they accept shared power.
Ireland have a population simular to Wales (just 1m more people) - they're a former union country... and being indepedent are now one of the righest countries in the world - without North Sea oil.
And as for the 'majority' opinion; most independant polls... not carried out for the 'British Broadbasting Corporation' show most Welsh people aspire for independance.
... Living in Wales and knowing the mood of the country - I'd agree with that too.
lol i love how you separatists play on population size. The UKs popualtion size is the same as Burmas, doesnt mean their economy can ever be as strong as the UKs. You mention Ireland, perhaps you should check history. They didnt get independence and suddenly become rich, they spent decades in economic crisis. In the past few decades they have been given hand outs by the EU whilst every year Britain pays into it.
Ireland now is facing huge cuts and has had its credit rating downgraded.
Stop calling Richardeast a 'separatist'. All he wants is self-determination for his own country. He's a patriot, not a separatist.
As for your piece on Ireland, let's get the facts straight. Ireland, albeit, a poorer European state between the 20's and 80's wasn't in an economic 'crisis', with the exception of the late 80's. In general, albeit modest, it had a stable economy. Nothing wrong with that. The point is, it survived and is doing well as an independent nation and so would Wales.
Richards a separatist, his country happens to be the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Wales is a country of the UK, the majority in Wales do not support his radical separatist views
As for southern Ireland, its economy was bad, it depends on your definition of crisis. My main point was the successful Ireland of today took 60 years to get
Its rather ironic that after centuries of moaning about British interference with Ireland, u get involved with an internal British matter
Nothing ironic about it. I know what it feels like for a nation seeking self-determination. There is nothing separatist about that as the UK is just a political union, it's not a country. Each respective country of the UK has a right to leave and each citizen has a right to air their views on the matter, either against, or indeed, for the Union. I am also entitled to have an opinion on any matter in the world and have a right to express it on youtube and don't you try to say I don't.
The United Kingdom is a country, it has been a country longer than the Republic of Ireland has, its been a country longer than the United States.
Each country of the UK can choose to leave, but the majority in every part do not want that to happen and so separatists must be kept in their place.
You should stay out of internal British matters which you know nothing about. When u look at the effort that went into ensuring Northern Ireland remained part of the UK, these separatists will fail.
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a country. It is recognized as one by the world and international organisations, it has far more right to call itself a country today than Wales, England, Scotland and especially Northern Ireland which has never been a country does.
I respect democracy, if the people of wales or Scotland want the UK to end it will. But the majority dont support that.
Separatists propaganda and lies must be countered.
This video has got to be tongue-in-cheeck, no? What?

I think it would be a good thing for Wales to be independent, as England has run the country into the ground (the UK that is). We would have to make sure we left the EU though. They would only push us around and force us to abide by their lax immigration laws and regulations.

The UK will endure because "it is our last best hope"
grandslam1998 1 year ago
@grandslam1998 you have just answered your own question, wales gave so much to the empire resource wise and got little back....its cultures looked down on when they could have been as rich as anything florence offers......if it had been allowed to flourish.....instead the poorer welsh were made to eek off the living off the worst land and lived in poverty not being able to afford meat....hence the welsh rarebit origin
Dont like the idea of being treated like shit and still wanting more, its weak

@grandslam1998 :) i honestly think anyside of this argument has valid points especially as its multi faceted, but some people reckon the end of the state in its current form (whatever that may be) could be ending.Due mainly to science and technological advances...some ppl think the world lags behind science discoveries..interesting thought, the only thing that makes me doubt these changes in next 20 years is countries that lag behind like sudan, china, n korea (even vast swaths of US to be fair)

1). 2 of the 4 Plaid Cymru candidates at the 2010 election are pakistani muslims
2). Wales is set to get it's first sharia court by mid 2010
3). The medina mosque is under construction in cardiff. Set to have 100ft + minarets.
4). The miners club in Wrexham has been earmarked as the towns new Mosque
In the meantime, the welsh language is still on it's arse in places like torfaen, Monmouthshire and Clwyd even under a PC/Labour Welsh Assembly

MrLongview01 2 years ago 14
The other one is the tuition fees.. where Scottish Mps did swing a vote which only impacted on England. Again i agree with the position..
I would rather Students pay more for their higher education, than the general tax payer. People are less likely to waste what they must pay for.
Why should someone on the minimum wage paying lots of tax have to pay more for someone to go to uni and get a degree which gets them a higher salary in the future? its unfair
Scottish Unis are suffering from this
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
chances are students are in university to learn not to throw away there education.
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
Most perhaps. But if someone has to work hard to pay to go to uni then they are more likely to take it seriously. If they have it all paid for them like college then many more will drop out or not study hard enough
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
are you willing to bet on that? im pretty sure if you combined all of the separatists in the uk you'd have at least as much supporters as any other mainstream party. people look at the separatist population in separate sections, like theres welsh separatists and scottish spearatists but have you ever looked at them in one group?
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
Im pretty sure that the unionist party vote would still be larger.. but i will take a look now just to check.
The thing is the only separatists that get alot of votes are Scottish and northern Irish ones. Welsh ones get some, English ones are non existent and a few vote for the cornish separatists.
Will take a look now and add up totals from the last general election to get a general idea, although i accept more votes would go to the SNP in the next election
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
i guess that will settle it wont it. we are all just going to have to wait for the referendum results next year for closure but whatever the scottish people vote for is final, so all we can do is wait.
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
Its true if theres a referendum the results will be final and the UK government must respect that, but i wouldnt bet on their being a referendum. The unionist parties in the Scottish parliament have the power to block it and intend to at the moment
only 35% of Scottish people voted for a party that would introduce a referendum. 60% voted for a party that would keep the UK together. So there is not a political mandate for a referendum in truth
Its risky to put ur country on the line in 1 vote
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
35 percent of scotland is still alot of people who would like to see scotland independent, buuuut its not a majority unfortunatly so although one day id like to see an independent scotland im not to confident ill see it in 2010. but if interest is still there and continues to grow like it has been i believe in inevetable, just like quebec, accept in quebec its a majority.
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
If there is a majority i Quebec that want independence, does the province government have the right to hold a referendum on it or cant they??
As for support here, its questionable if support for independence is growing or not, recent polls show a decline in support for independence.. the economic crisis resulting in Scottish banks having to be bailed out by the UK government has damaged the economic case. UK spent more than the annual Scottish parliament budget to rescue 1 of the banks.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
no i dont think they do, i think it has to go through the national parliment then singned by our hatian seal heart eating govener general. but quebec has been asking for more control of the province. theres alberta separatists now aswell who are rapidly gaining support, they dont wish to share there oil with the rest of canada. what ever happens i just hope we all dont become part of the states, in canada weve had a problem with electing a slew of incompatent leaders.
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
Separatism is a huge threat to sovereign states, thats the trouble where does it end.. If they want and get independence what part is next.
Thats why all separatists must be crushed and defeated. This is a global struggle, should separatists in Scotland win then it will inspire separatists in Spain, Belgium and other nations that independence is possible.
I dont want the UK having to be an experiment or example for them. Separatists stick together, pushing each others own pathetic cause.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
well its not pathetic when places like basque country or scotland look for independence and even quebec, because there are cultural social and economic reasons for it. but places like alberta is just, well ya its alberta there no different from eny other english speaking province in canada accept for the maritimes and newfounland witch have accents, but the maritime one is only in isolated towns and a few people in nova scotia and newfoundland speak gaelic but thats nearly dead.
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
i see no difference at all aslong as its not an occupation and the people are not being oppressed.
There are plenty of differences between the different counties of England. The UK is exactly the same, except we have allowed distinct identities to remain such as Welsh and Scottish.. now thats great and fine with me, but we can also all feel British. Sadly due to government failures in the past and certain developments in the last half of the 20th century.. its allowed separatist cause to grow.

cranyonrye 2 years ago
in the future if the government decides to act we can put this separatist problem to bed.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
as for quebec there excuse was it was too small a majority, canada is still a thinly sewed quilt in my opinion. polls are often unreliable, and the scottish youth parliment isnt that just a few politically interested scottish kids? i saw a video of them once talking about exactly that. but they dont speak for whole nation or is it a thing were kids part of this group or not vote on issues? if so i think more nations should have this.
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
So a majority of people in Quebec voted for independence and the canadian government ignored em? wow lmao, wed be crucified if we did that here.
I dunno how many took part in the vote, but most of their members were there so i presume most took part in the vote. They dont speak for all of Scotlands youth, but its nice to know many of the future possible Scottish MPs currently support the union.
the youth is the age group im most concerned about.. some unionists were nationalists at one stage
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
54 percent i believe it was in the 90s when the referendum was held and yet nothing happend LOL so yes i suppose they ignored them witch i donnt agree with if they want to go then go ahead, leave just dont come crying back to us when ure no as economically rich as you though youd be. although i think scotland would fair much better than quebec. the energy grid plan with norway and the windpower i think will eventually make up for the oil issue.
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
Im certainly prepared to accept in the case of Scotland because of oil it would do ok, altthough i still think Scotland is better off in the UK and figures back up the fact Scotland isnt being ripped off and wouldnt suddenly have billions more if it left the union.
But in the case of Wales, there is no doubt.. Wales seriously benefits from being part of the United Kingdom
Northern Ireland is very different to the rest of Britain though. Northern Ireland uniting with the south would balance it
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
what do you mean balance it? and i think the overall reason scotland should be independent is to repesent its self on the world stage, and to choose its own destiny and to not have nuclear weapons being hid there.
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
Well in the case off Northern Ireland it would be able to unite with a well established nation already, its very different to becoming an independent country for the first time in 300 or 800 years and ofcourse a united ireland makes sense the way the UK does for the island of Great Britain
Im not too concerned about Northern Ireland. Its for the people of NI to decide, if they want to remain part of the UK (which they do) then they must be given full support. If that changes, then so be it
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
Its all very well saying Scotland should represent itself on the world stage, but the UK has far more influence than an independent Scotland ever could.
Scotland is still able to have external relations with other nations like on trade.. Scottish government go on trade missions etc..Theres a Scottish Government Counsellor in the British Embassy in the USA. Its not like they have no representation.
As for nuclear weapons. Most Scottish MPs are labour. Labour party supports nuclear weapons.

Yep thats the one, he supported the SNP in his youth but quickly left. People can be mislead at that age, happens with the extremist parties here aswell. Seducing and corrupting peoples minds.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
Looking at the separatists in each part of the UK separately helps the separatists because they form a larger share of that areas vote. When u look at the UK as a whole, the majority of voters (who are English) vote mainstream.
So looking at 2005 General election..
The Irish, Welsh, Cornish, English and Scottish separatists got about 1 million votes.
Compare that to the Lib dems (3rd largest mainstream party) = 5.9 million
Conservatives (most pro union mainstream party) = 8.7m
Labour = 9.5m
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
Free Carparking results in millions of pounds of revenues lost from NHS hospitals, id rather have more doctors and nurses thanks.
I think u will find when the funds become tight (unlike these past 10 years), wales and Scotland will have to rethink some of these wasteful policies.
How on earth do u justify giving millionaires free drugs? its blood pathetic and laughable. It just means NHS wales has less resources for other things in the long run.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
millionairs are people to, just because they have more money dosent mean they have to pay when everyone else dosent.
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
and another thought just came to mind, if u combine all of the separatists in the uk i think you would see a majority.
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
Lmao, certainly not a majority. If we combined all the votes separatist parties got in the UK i doubt theyd match that of the labour party or the conservatives separately the two main unionist parties here..
Separatists are a minority. Their goal may be the same but they all say different crap. English separatists say Scotland is subsidized, Scottish separatists say England steals Scotlands oil.. they are both wrong and all pathetic.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
england may not be stealing scotlands oil but the uk is. if scotland were to be independent when that oil was discoverd what country do you think would have gotten the rights to it?
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
Thats a big if.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
most people pay for drugs, only those who need help or are pregnant / over 60 etc get help.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
ya i looked into this medical care issue and ill give you that one, its unfaire for someone who dosent make to much money in the first place to pay for a millionaires drugs. but no countrys perfect. i mean in canada we tryed to go into a free trade agreement with a country twice our size. that was smart -_-
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
Agreed no system is perfect, im a supporter of "free health care", we certainly shouldnt restrict rich people from being allowed to be treated on the NHS, but drugs are so damn expensive we do need to be careful.
In time they may back away from free drugs for all. easy to allow for it during the boom years, not so easy when cuts have to be started
NAFTA is an interesting response to the EU. atleast in the EUs case there are several reasonably equal sized economies not 1 that totally dominates
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
The UK government and majority of English MPs have more sense and we do not go in for stupid populist policies like Free meds for all / free carparking.
in England.. anyone under 16, over 60, pregnant, on low income, unemployed or disability benefits, 16-18s in full time education, and some other groups get free drugs.
so we only ask working age people who do not need benefits to pay a small fee for their drugs. This prevents wastage, and its not lots of money, less than 2 hours on min wage
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
how is free medicine stupid! always thinking with your wallet arent ya? and the right to an education and to learn about the world sould be free, who has the right to charge someone for learning?
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
Free education and healthcare is wonderful, but lets not forget its not Free.. people pay for it through taxation.
In the UK we have the NHS, free medical care for anyone no matter what their wealth. However in England like the other parts of the uK (till recently or soon) asked people to pay a small fee towards drugs
Only asking those who can afford to pay end up paying and those who need help get it free. Its a choice, More doctors / nurses or free drugs for millionaires? i know what i want
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
I am a unionist and i support the monarchy, so i disagree with two things this video is promoting. These propaganda videos aim to destroy my country, u can be damn sure ill watch them, comment on them and try to correct people when they are mistaken or trying to mislead others.
As for the English separatists, there are some but again a small minority. As i said before, im far harsher with separatists from my own part of the country than i am with Welsh or Scots. The English ones are pathetic
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
unionists are very guilty of propaganda aswell. and there are many english separatists more than there are scottish i believe.
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
There are English separatists, but they are a tiny minority and parties which support such thing get very few votes.
As for handing over power to Brussels, the separatists would do even MORE than what the British government does. The UK is the 2nd biggest net contributor to the EU budget, we get many opt outs because we have influence.
AN independent Scotland or Wales would join the euro and bow to the wishes of Brussels more than the UK ever would.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
LOL thats the conventional separatist parties sure but i dont support them, id want an independent country that does not join the eu, look at norway, not an eu member and doing just fine.
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
Well Norway isnt an EU member but it does comply with alot of the rules people have a problem with. (for example immigration policy for Norway about EU citizens is the same as for the UK), no limits.
No major party seeks independence from the UK and EU. If they do it weakens the case for independence even more lol.. I would love for the SNP to be anti EU, but they are about as pro EU as the lib dems here who love the EU. and want a federal United States of Europe.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
what norway does is norways business if youre not an eu member you dont have to comply with eu laws and regulations. is the snp un conventional....no although they are the closest thing scotland has to independence i dont support keeping the queen like salmond would or joining the eu like salmond would, point being is that there are really no partys out there that i really like or agree with.
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
Ah but Norway whilst not being an EU member does comply with alot of EU legislation because its a member of the European Economic Area (like all EU nations and a few others). For example, its EEA citizens who can live / work in each others countries not EU citizens. So despite Norway not being a member of the EU, i have the right to live / work in Norway, the way that Polish people can live / work here.
Salmond wouldnt keep the Queen, he just doesnt have the guts to take the monarchy on.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
The point surely is if u care about something strongly u will not vote for a party which totally disagrees with ur point of view. Sure noone will agree with every policy of a party, but the core policy of Labour, Lib Dems and the tories are for the union to continue..
If u dont want it to continue dont vote for them, its very simple otherwise they can simply block any attempts by separatists to impose their will
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
salmond and the queen get on nicely i hear, so i do believe salmond would keep the queen, and scotland voted for a separatist party theres another "clue" for you. and like i said they wouldnt have to join eny of those organizations u mentioned.
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
35% voted for the separatist SNP, 60% voted for unionist parties. The SNP won in 2007 with ONE more vote than Labour, and they won it with a majority of 48 votes.
The SNP got MORE votes in 1999 than they did in 2007, so its not like 100,000s started voting SNP which got them elected... its just labour voters stayed at home.
As for the Queen and Salmond, yes ive seen the together, if Salmond cared he would tell his party to show more respect for her. Hes a closet republican deep down.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
ONe more Seat*** than labour,
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
or hes not too concerned about what others around him think?? calling him gutless is a bit much dont ya think. i think i smell a little resentment about towards the snp? does it bother you at all that the scots get free medicines and that scots have a say in what happens in england but not vice versa? that can all be fixed with a dissolved english parliment you know. english helping egland and scots helping scotland.
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
He should take responsibility for his parties actions, if he supports the monarchy he should defend it not say we will put it to a referendum. This is his problem, his excuse is always "put it to a referendum". like on the Euro, it has huge implications and the SNP would adopt it at some stage but they never mention it and try to shake it off by saying wed have a referendum on it.
As for resentment.. i hate the Scottish National Party and any party that seeks to destroy the United Kingdom.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
so how do you know he wont put it to a referendum? you dont you just hate them so your finding any excuse to bash them.
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
I hate the SNP because they want to destroy my country. He will put it to a referendum, if he was a strong supporter of the monarchy he wouldnt think there even needs to be a referendum on it.
He knows that to take on the monarchy and the union at the same tie would screw his plans. Even if they got independence had a referendum and kept the Queen... it wouldnt end there, theyd seek to undermine it and when the Queen dies like with Canada ./ Australia the monarchy is gone for them.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
I do not resent Scotland, or the SNP / Scottish parlaiment for introducing different policies, that is what devolution is all about and i attack any English moron i come across ranting about such things.
The certain policies were there are differences like "free medicine" or "free carparking" and no tuition fees for students, i agree with Englands position.
Why on earth should i pay for a millionaire to get free drugs, all who need help in England get free drugs.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
that may be true but i dont think you would be complaining if you didnt have to pay for drugs. as for scottish universities suffering, scotland has some of the best universites in the world and i cant begin to fathom why you wouldnt want to have a devolved english parliment, it would greatly benefit you.
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
The people who need help to pay for drugs in England get help. The policy in Wales gives everyone including millionaires free drugs, sorry but i think thats a waste. And Wales loses out on millions every year because of it which they could spend on more doctors and nurses.
Scotland does have good unis, but they have said they are struggling to pay and maintain standards, they need more government help.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
I can see why some want an English devolved parliament. I just do not think we need one. The majority of MPs in the British parliament are English, most scottish mps in the majority of cases dont bother to vote on English matters and if the tories win they will impose a rule only allowing English MPs to draft legislation at a certain stage.. which will solve some of the problem.
Why create a new layer of government which will cost millions that we do not even need? Its also a very risky step
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
I really dont think it would greatly benefit England. They created a London Assembly, which is basically a complete joke and an extra layer of government which wasnt needed.
Im a British unionist. The union is more important to me than a few silly benefits for England. If we created a parliament today with a first minister, there are HUGE constitutional issues at play. An English First Minister would be too powerful and could challenge the British prime Minister.
We cant rush these things.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
If the Welsh want full independence, economically/militarily free from England, then they should go ahead and take it. It's a clearly-defined country, with its own traditions and customs - perfect conditions for the creation of a free country. If the Welsh resent the Union, then they should go for it.
transonicbuoy1 2 years ago
The majority of Welsh people dont resent the union, they are proud of their welsh culture, but that is very different to the minority who support a break up of the United Kingdom.. Especially Republicans who seek to remove the monarchy as well
Out of 40 Welsh MPs in the UK parliament only THREE are separatists. I think the will of the Welsh people is very clear. The fact the Conservatives (the clearly more pro union party) got more votes than labour in the EU elections, is a clue too
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
people dont vote for a party soley on the basis of them being sepertists or unionists.
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
Its true they dont always vote just on the independence issue. But if a separatist votes for a unionist party, he cant complain when the unionist parties block attempts to hold a referendum.
over 70% of the votes in Wales go to parties who want the status quo, there for Wales remains part of the UK. the only way to change that is to vote separatist.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
i suppose ure right but in my opinion the media has us all in a gridlock making the majority vote for conventional no change at all parties, like look at obama do u really think other than socializing the states hes really gonna make eny change? no he wont.

.. but, as an English man you have no right to comment on Welsh affairs - do we trry to run you?! NO.
We can be allies, friends, neighbours and you can have a friend in Wales... but keep your nose out of Welsh affairs or you'll make an enemy of us.

TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
u make it sound like wales belongs to the english, wales scotland and england are seperate countrys FACE IT.
GNOME919productions 2 years ago
Wales is part of the United Kingdom just like England is. Separatists seek independence from the UK not from England.. otherwise the English separatists u mentioned are seeking independence from England too.
The people of Wales can decide, but whilst over 70% of their votes go to unionist parties, they clearly dont care too much about breaking up the UK.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
Sorry - but the fact you have to resort to the statement 'Her Majesty doesnt want to see her realm destroyed because of you separatists' kinda-shows how much shit you speak.
Wales is destined to be run by the Welsh - you can't and won't stop that.... trying to use meanial arguments about what a figurehead monarch may think makes you sound like an idiot...
When we're free I have no doubt we'll be financially richer with a stronger culture and national identity.
richardeast 2 years ago

MegaWelshman 2 years ago
Well i agree with ur last comment. Stronger together weaker divided. That is exactly the case for keeping the United Kingdom, Wales would be a small nation with a very bad economy if it declared independence.
Atleast in the case of Scotland because of its oil wealth there are possible economic reasons (although flawed) for independence. In Wales, this is not the case.
Welsh MPs and AMs have protected and strenghtened Welsh identity in recent decades. Explain why you need independence?
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
Ummmm. because we want to run ourselves - not be dictated to from Westminster.
Explain why you think, as an English man, you believe a parliament where 85% of the MPs are English, should have almost total control over Wales & Scotland?
richardeast 2 years ago
Im a British citizen like you. My country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Wales is part of the UK, as is Scotland. Devolution means Wales is able to run its local affairs (more will be transfered) . Lets not forget we currently have a Scottish prime minister running the United Kingdom. Not an English one
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
No. my country is Wales.
Now kindly naff off and take your prince and his dog ugly wife with you.
richardeast 2 years ago
Can you tell me when the people of wales signed to be Wales? This is the thing you separatists question he status of the United Kingdom, i think u need to check the history of Scotland and Wales formation too.
Wales is part of the United Kingdom and until the people of Wales say otherwise there is nothing you can do. Looking at the vote the other day u going to be waiting many decades before PC manage to challanage the union.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
And say we will! - it's not just PC, but the likes of MAC and FWA.
I don't think violence serves anyone - but if England continue to occupy our land and refuse to let us govern ourselves.... I know there are a lot of patriots here who're ready to fight for our nation's freedom and who knows what will happen.
richardeast 2 years ago
Lmao, wow you are threatening violence against the state? Do ur worst, such actions simply damage the chances of an independent wales :)
Wales is part of the United Kingdom just like England is. England does not "occupy" Wales. Infact right now England and the UK are fully run by a Scottish prime minister.. Wales / Scotland / Northern Ireland have their own devolved administrations.
Long live the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. - Down with you separatist scum! =)
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
How dare you call anyone who is looking for independence for their own nation as 'scum'. I think you are the scum, if anyone is. If you are standing in the way of democracy, that is scum. It's up to the people of Wales to decide the best future for their own state. It might be patronisingly just called a 'Principality' by England but it will be a nation among nations once again hopefully.
bacabu30 2 years ago
I am not standing in the way of democracy, he is going against the people of wales wish to remain part of the United Kingdom. Hes a separatist and those who seek the destruction of this country are owed no respect.
I think you will find the British government calls Wales a country and has for some time, the term principality is rarely used
You need to state out of internal British matters which you clearly do not understand. There is no case for separation, and its simply not going to happen
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
I need to stay out of British affairs that I don't understand? Don't kid me with your BS! What don't I understand?! That was a rhetorical question, by the way. Just because you don't like my standpoint! lol
bacabu30 2 years ago
Lol, well for a start u have said the UK is just a political union not a country. That is complete crap. The European Union is a political union, the United Kingdom is a country.
Sure it may be made up of 4 countries, but the UK is a country and a sovereign state.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
p.s. you didn't answer my question why you think, as an English man, a parliament in England with 85% of it's members English... should have almost total control over Wales.
Would you except it if it were, say, Brussels having total control over England? Foreign MEPs deciding England's Taxation, Spending, defence, foreign affairs, constitutional head of state, etc, etc, etc???!!!
Didn't think so either.

The FIFA statutes say clearly the British Football Associations are treated as a special case and field their own teams.. look it up
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
When Andy murray wins in tennis matches, hes Scottish but he plays for Great Britain. When Lewis Hammilton won the Formula 1 championship last year, hes English but he won it for Britain.
When Chris Hoy won several gold medals at the olympics.. hes Scottish but he won for Britain
Over 50% of the people want wales to be free of westminster rule.. LMAO what a bloody joke. If thats the case perhaps you should tell the majority of welsh people to stop voting for unionist parties?? are they stupid?
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
Andy Murray's opinions are on record.... as are a lot of the Welsh athletes who had compete for 'Team GB' in Bejing. As are the Welsh & Scottish footballers who don't want to compete in 2012.
As for the opinion poll. Google 'walesonline Please, sir, can we have some more?' ... 52 per cent of those polled think it is time to break from the Union.
So please- loose the arrogance. Most Welsh people don't have a problem with England... but we do have a problem being assimilated into the union.
richardeast 2 years ago
Andy murrays opinion is on the record, he doesnt have a problem playing for Team GB.. this issue was just a misunderstanding because he told a journalist he wanted any team to win the football but England. That doesnt mean they are against the UK
As for the welsh athletes please name the separatist welsh athletes who have made such complains? Perhaps they should be deselected for the olympics. On football, the reason they dont want to play for a team GB is they are concerned about keeping teams
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
Google 'Tom James welsh flag' to read what he did after winning the gold in the olympics. And while you're at it... watch the olympics homcoming parade.... look at the flag the olympic medalists choose to drape on their backs (I'll give you a hint... it aint the union flag).
and - look at the memorial to the fallen Welsh army heros in the Iraqi homecoming (google Welsh soldiers in homecoming parade)- what flag did they choose? Or google 'last tanks basra' to see what flags they flew there.
richardeast 2 years ago
Umm im not denying people are proud to be welsh, just as people take pride in being scottish or english but that doesnt mean tthey are all anti British.
I looked up Tom James, he ran to wave a welsh flag and??? A quick google search which leads me to Glyndwr University about a visit by Tom James says...
"Tom said: Im proud to be Welsh, proud to be British and this is a brilliant project - exactly the sort of thing which we need in the run up to London 2012."
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
You also make it sound like the UK or British olympic association didnt want people waving Welsh or Scottish flags, if you read the article on that walesonline that u mentioned before it says clearly its because the Chinese authorities banned all flags which wernt Olympic member states because they were worried about tibet flags.
All of the points you raise suggest you cant be both Welsh and British, im sorry but thats just not the case and has never been.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
Ofcourse if the UK broke up we would lose our power and influence over world football, something separatists dont understand sadly.
Lmfao, im talking about proper opinion polls. Lets look at how people voted in Wales, the majority ALWAYS go to unionist parties, they cant be that desperate for independence there.
In the case of Wales, arrogance against you separatists is justified because everyone including PC accepts the majority dont support independence. Its PCs "long term goal"
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
You're an idiot.
Goodbye.
richardeast 2 years ago
No, what im saying is if you want independence dont vote for a party that makes it very clear they support and will defend the union. If you want independence vote for a separatist party because thats the only way it will happen. Thats commonsense
On the EU point, indeed they do which goes to show the majority are not strongly against Britains membership of the EU< otherwise theyd ote UKIP
I have no problem with you taking pride in your great country Wales, it doesnt mean u need independence
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
Ok - so you allow us to take proud in our country.... but not to have any of the freedoms any other proud country enjoys such as having the ability to run our own affairs for the benefit of people in Wales?
Do you think us in Wales are somehow unable to govern ourselves without the 'help' of Westminster?
When we're independant we may well be close allies with England & Scotland - but it'll be our choice.... and our choice alone.
richardeast 2 years ago
I think that in the case of wales especially there is overwhelming evidence that it would be better off as part of the United Kingdom than as an independent small state.
Lets not forget atleast on Scotland there is an economic case for independence because of oil (although its deeply flawed) Wales doesnt have a core resource like oil which could fun its independence.
You only consider urself welsh, thats fine but whilst the majority support being part of the UK, they accept shared power.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
Once again your facts are wrong.
Ireland have a population simular to Wales (just 1m more people) - they're a former union country... and being indepedent are now one of the righest countries in the world - without North Sea oil.
And as for the 'majority' opinion; most independant polls... not carried out for the 'British Broadbasting Corporation' show most Welsh people aspire for independance.
... Living in Wales and knowing the mood of the country - I'd agree with that too.
richardeast 2 years ago
lol i love how you separatists play on population size.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
Stop calling Richardeast a 'separatist'. All he wants is self-determination for his own country. He's a patriot, not a separatist.
As for your piece on Ireland, let's get the facts straight. Ireland, albeit, a poorer European state between the 20's and 80's wasn't in an economic 'crisis', with the exception of the late 80's. In general, albeit modest, it had a stable economy. Nothing wrong with that. The point is, it survived and is doing well as an independent nation and so would Wales.
bacabu30 2 years ago
Richards a separatist, his country happens to be the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Wales is a country of the UK, the majority in Wales do not support his radical separatist views
As for southern Ireland, its economy was bad, it depends on your definition of crisis. My main point was the successful Ireland of today took 60 years to get
Its rather ironic that after centuries of moaning about British interference with Ireland, u get involved with an internal British matter
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
Nothing ironic about it. I know what it feels like for a nation seeking self-determination. There is nothing separatist about that as the UK is just a political union, it's not a country. Each respective country of the UK has a right to leave and each citizen has a right to air their views on the matter, either against, or indeed, for the Union. I am also entitled to have an opinion on any matter in the world and have a right to express it on youtube and don't you try to say I don't.
bacabu30 2 years ago
The United Kingdom is a country, it has been a country longer than the Republic of Ireland has, its been a country longer than the United States.
Each country of the UK can choose to leave, but the majority in every part do not want that to happen and so separatists must be kept in their place.
You should stay out of internal British matters which you know nothing about. When u look at the effort that went into ensuring Northern Ireland remained part of the UK, these separatists will fail.
TheBritishWatcher 2 years ago
I know the UK is a sovereign State, never said it wasn't but I'm just saying each country that comprises it can vote to leave if they wish.
You're making a fool of yourself to be comparing NI with Wales. They're totally different kettles of fish...like comparing apples and pears.
I won't stay out of any affairs in the world that I happen to take interest in. Thanks.
bacabu30 2 years ago
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is a country. It is recognized as one by the world and international organisations, it has far more right to call itself a country today than Wales, England, Scotland and especially Northern Ireland which has never been a country does.
I respect democracy, if the people of wales or Scotland want the UK to end it will. But the majority dont support that.
Separatists propaganda and lies must be countered.
