steroid use in the US wasn't illegal in the 70's. that doesn't mean it was a good idea, but there's that issue. one might argue that after all the deaths and negative publicity that the guys today "should know better." on the other hand, it does seem like people get bashed simply for getting caught, and yes, people will always treat celebrities or figures they like in a more forgiving way than those they don't.
I'm guessing the primary reason people come down harder on somebody like Mysterio is because of his family friendly image. he's seen as more a role model for kids, so anything he does wrong will be judged more harshly. I understand there's enormous pressure in the wrestling industry to use drugs, both to enhance their image, performance, to deal with pain from injuries, as well as the "rockstar party" atmosphere of peer pressure. so while it's hard on the talent its for their own good in the end
what really gets me is how most pro wrestlers are treated like day laborers... it's like the old circus days, but without feeling like part of the family. that's not to excuse bad behavior, but at least it's understandable why so many get into drug abuse. what the companies need to do is clean up the atmosphere that fosters that kind of abuse in the first place. if they don't self regulate they need to be regulated (even if it's not a legit sport)

Fans of today have become too much critical when it comes to criticizing and just bashing without any real supportive examples or details. Jeff Hardy is one of the most hated superstars in the IWC (most of them) and I've been seeing a lot of people hating on Rey as of late. I guess it's more of the 'heel' over 'face' that IWC prefers.
I never hear people bash Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley. Heath Ledger, Marilyn Monre. Micheal Jackson and Johnny Cash. All these performers took drugs and they are dead and nobody will bash these performers because of respect, but again most performers take drugs and its just to cope travelling is hard.

One reason why wrestling legends may not be criticised for drug use is because they are not the current performers of today. Retrospectively for any performer after their career ends, all aspects of their career should be looked at objectively and the good should be celebrated while the bad should perhaps be criticised...
I don't believe that bashing a wrestler for taking steriods means that, that particular wrestler is hated. Yes Mysterio and Hardy are very talented and are fan favourites. However the arguement can be made that when a policy that has been in place to curb or atleast hinder improper drug use for a couple of years then it looks stupid for any wrestler at this point after so many years to be taking any kind of drugs.

I never hear people bash Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley. Heath Ledger, Marilyn Monre. Micheal Jackson and Johnny Cash. All these performers took drugs and they are dead and nobody will bash these performers because of respect, but again most performers take drugs and its just to cope travelling is hard.

Most wrestlers in the history of the business took drugs as do most actors and musicians. Its very hard to travel and perform and most performers took drugs really to cope, I am a actor myself in college I know how hard it is to cope.

i knew Brian Pillman had a problem with pain pills but I never knew he took HGH.. I agree about the youtube wrestling community being a little hypocritical. from what i heard with Rey it was something from his last knee surgery and the WWE didn't give him enough time to provide a doctors note- which he had... if that's the case and they don't overturn it i can see rey quitting and the wwe needs rey more than rey needs wwe

Some may disagree, but EVERY WWE/F World Heavyweight Champion so far in history has taken steroids. Once your at the top you gotta be on sumthin bcuz you wanna be the best, & stay the best...just dont abuse w/e your on & you'll be fine. Steroid use, not abuse can bring out the best in the wrestlers, they can test ur blood & tell what level your testosterone is at-so if its within the normal range or slightly above IMO u should be able to use steroids, If its really high that makes you an abuser!

Steroids help people...If your the champion & you hurt your knee, your not gonna wanna take time off to help heal it, no..your gonna take steroids to heal it up faster...theres nothing wrong with that. As long as you dont abuse steroids, than there should be no problem with using them...
Also, why the hell is WWE so worried about the use of Marijuana??? Its a PLANT-An Herb! Wrestlers get hurt EVERY night, and somtimes get injured. Id rather have my wrestlers on weed rather then pain killers!

We all know Rey has bad knees...If Rey's taking steroids or HGH hes obviously doing it so that he can perform better. Hell we all know Triple H has bad knees aswell & you can bet your bottom dollar hes on somthing to keep him going...Cena & others are probably on somthing aswell...WWE needs to do things right, and let wrestlers take steroids or HGH for injury purposes with a perscription. All they gotta do is set a testosterone limit, if u exceed it u fail the wellness policy. Its that simple!

man these guys esp high flyers and smaller guys, their bodies go through hell and they should be allowed to use HGH or even steroids under prescription for their injuries. WWE shouldve gave him 2 extra days to provide proof instead of 1. They went against their own policy cuz it said that wrestlers have 3 days to show prescriptions and only gave him a day

I agree with you Spinnernet. I like a lot of the guys you mentioned that died of drug use, but I can't deny their drug use. William Regal is one of my favorite wrestlers today, but I don't deny his 2 suspensions. I just only hope that some of these guys that do get busted can learn from their mistakes and move on.

I bash all the guys, it's not good to be dependant on bad drgus. They were talented stars, but they destroyed themselves.
I don't know what Rey did exactly, but he comes across as an honest type of guy, maybe he made an error.
Like that British Skiier at the winter olympics who had his bronze medal taken away because he used a nasal spray he bought from a pharmacy which happened to just have a banned substance in it

just because jeff hardy hasnt been busted for drugs in a year in a half doesnt mean he has stopped. jeff hardy's dug problem's are worse than most. he was released in 03 for it and they wanted to keep him but he didnt want to go to rehab so they released him. 4 years later he got caught again. he didnt take 1 drug like the others u mentioned and he took 2 1st time then 3 the second. its a difference between dieing from one drug by taking it for a year or 2 than taking more than one for 7+

Mr. Perfect always gets overlooked. I think that it's like that because he never a World Champ though. He never really made it that big. He was a phenomenal wrestler, and I love watching him wrestle, but I still like Jeff Hardy, and I'd defend Jeff Hardy.
It's not right to do drugs, but in the WWE, you have no choice. You'd lose your job if you don't take performance enhancers.
Maybe they're spewing hate because they haven't died YET.

As for the wrestling legends of the past, their drug use is not okay either. However for any wrestler, their achievements will still be celebrated regardless. One reason why wrestling legends may not be criticised for drug use is because they are not the current performers of today. Retrospectively for any performer after their career ends, all aspects of their career should be looked at objectively and the good should be celebrated while the bad should perhaps be criticised...

I don't believe that bashing a wrestler for taking steriods means that, that particular wrestler is hated. Yes Mysterio and Hardy are very talented and are fan favourites. However the arguement can be made that when a policy that has been in place to curb or atleast hinder improper drug use for a couple of years then it looks stupid for any wrestler at this point after so many years to be taking any kind of drugs.
