  • Those songs sound similar yes. Exactly the same? No. If you listen closely, a lot of songs done sound very similar to songs done before it. That's the way music is. An artist hears a song they like and they tweak it's little to make it their own. Music is like that. Each artist gets inspiration from another artist.

  • @drd19971 Hence the title of this video using the word "similar."

  • godsmack is nothing more than alice in chains ripoffs nd sully is layne staley wannabe to bad hes not even 1/10 talented as layne was:(

  • Lots of songs out there that sound similar out there but it doesn't mean they ripped off each other. Good catch on the way these matched each other though!

  • @NariNaraga22 Thanks!

  • I love godsmack and NIN and i can say this, i dout that they copy

  • Wow I knew they ripped off AIC but I had no idea they ripped off NIN and Filter. I've never liked them and now I like them even less.

  • they still fucking rock.

  • MY OPINION!!!

the thing is, is that music is patterns of notes, & theres only so many notes & stumming rhythms, & cause music has been around for SOOOO long it shouldnt come as a suprize for songs to sound somewhat similar cause now a days its so hard to find an original sound. i'll be messing around on my guitar and start playing something thats i think sounds real cool but then ralize it sound just like another song i know but eithe in a different key or a slightly different sturmming pattern

  • I honestly couldn't care who they rip off they have catchy tunes, and I would much rather listen to Godsmack then NIN, Filter, and Preston Nash not that I'm a huge Godsmack fan

  • I love Alice in Chains, NIN and Godsmack... so go figure that out!

  • well my cousin, (sully erna) wrote this song you fucking homos. go fuck yourselves

  • to add on to what i said, people need to stop freaking out and go to fucking war when they hear a similarity in a song. it seems like people are taking music a little too seriously which is not a good thing

  • has anyone ever heard of being inspired by a band? AiC is one of godsmacks biggest inspirations. i dont at all see godsmack trying to be like AiC im a huge fan of both. there are millions and millions of songs in the world and people act as if they got sand in there vagina's when they hear a bit of similarity in two songs.. sully is one fantastic writer. listen to his solo album and if you dont think hes talented then you got something wrong with you.

  • That last song from Godsmack is called "The Enemy".

I love Godsmack, but i never realized they did so much ripping off.

  • @yeahyahyahyeah Worst band ever ROFLMAO damn they are 10 times better than any body out there Sully has more talent in his pinky than all those other bands combined this is like a conspiracy 911 bullshit hell look around a little harder i bet they stole some lyrics from minnie pearl and hank williams sr. to. this is fucking laughable

  • That makes me mad. I'm a big NIN fan. Before I knew they had ripped off so many songs, I liked GodSmack.

  • @TheNightsMoon I should probably say that despite this video, I don't really mind Godsmack all that much. My biggest problem with them is not how much some of their songs sound like other bands, but that Godsmack songs sound like pretty much every other Godsmack song. Every time they break out of their mostly formulaic sound, I usually don't like the song. That might say more about me than them; I don't know.

  • Are you kidding me? Originality no longer exists and hasn't for years.

  • Okay, im not trying to start an argument here. Really, so dont reply calling me an asshole because this is just true FACTS from the band, and were also proven. PixelBath, obviously you dont check your sources. Yes, GodSmack does sound like other bands. Though, stealing the songs and claming it as their own is one thing. Getting permission, and recreating the song is another. Alot of bands do that, yet, i dont see why they dont get your crap..... .-. Just stating what i know is true.

  • for all you assholes, i don't hear other bands complaining about this, so why would it matter to you..

  • @Sicnet92 Godsmack fan?

  • Actually, the song "Rip Off" is called "The Enemy"

  • Not to mention the song God smack by alice in chains, lol.

Godsmack songs even sometimes rip off Godsmack songs. Some sound exactly the same as their other works.

  • godsmacks amazing!... NOT. damn rip offs

  • One of those videos that get the special cases arguing among themselves. I'm a huge NIN fan, but I don't take it against Godsmack. I just don't listen to the pricks. They suck.

  • @V19torrent Haha, thanks for the comment.

  • it's so nice to see everyone getting along

  • @sasquatchsiosaurus They're not getting along cause godsmack fanboys are idiots :D

  • @ArtCookies yeah, but why make a video that's only intention is to make fans angry, and argue with eachother? the uploader's just as much of an idiot as they are.

  • @sasquatchsiosaurus He's not an idiot for making a videojust to prove a point... i dont think he made the video to piss people off, i think he did it cause, like me, he doesnt respect plagarisim. Besides if you get pissed off because godsmack cant come up with its on music then your a christian!!!!! there I said it...

  • @ArtCookies you also just said you're a christian xD

Sparrow would be so proud of you.

  • @sasquatchsiosaurus IM NOT A CHRISTIAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ArtCookies well that's what you said right here, see, look...

"Besides if you get pissed off because godsmack cant come up with its on music then your a christian!!!!!"

  • @sasquatchsiosaurus nope, i get pissed off when people try to defend Godsmack..... you cant do it, there is no defending someone who rips off layne stayley and doesnt give abit of credit to him..... sides, i said YOUR..... nothing saying i cant get pissed

  • Every band out there needed someplace to start so they used other bands as inspiration

My guess is before they took the ideas they made sure it was ok because they kno if they didn't make sure it was they'd a goten sued that happens

U guys need to start thinking thing through

  • U guys r fucking dumb asses I'll bet that all of ur guyses fave bands got thier ideas from some other band they all do it it's just a madder of finding that other band to prove it. Every band out thier today neaded someplace to start

  • @xfellerifyx Maybe, but most bands don't start out with someone else's song entirely. There's a difference between "being inspired by" and "totally stealing someone's song".

  • how dare you say that one of the most creative and freakin awesome rock bands are rippin off other artists... ok a few of their songs sound the same with other band's songs but that doen't at all mean they are ripping them off... in fact it's like advertising, you know?! same riff different text and people say "hey doesn't time bomb sound like lost by NIN" that's how i found out about NIN and started listening to them ^^ dont be so direct and think first before you blame...

  • Dude, whats the point in making a video, if your to fucking retarded to see that godsmack is ripping off other bands then your to fucking retarded to get up, sit yourself in front of a computer, and look shit up on the internet. They have done nothing but ripoff alice in chains since they formed! Where do you think they got the name godsmack? Could it be from the song God Smack from the Alice in Chains album Dirt? Or is that too fucking obvious?

  • Man am I glad some body finally said something about this! I've been pointing this shit out for over a decade. One that you forgot was a band called soil.they put out a self titled debut back in the early zeros and had a song on it called unreal. Godsmack stole the bridge from the song and turned it into their song realign. check it out.not only is it in the same time it's in the same tuning. Godsmack have been ripping people off for over a decade, and not even with good lyrics!

  • Another AIC Rip off is Confusion and Godsmacks Someone in London. This band has sucked since they first came out and will continue doing the same shit over again. And then No one forget Mad Season Long Gone Day vs Godsmacks Voo Doo Sulley has made so much money off of mimicking Layne Staley's Voice. Rest In Please Layne.

  • GET OFF MY MAN TRENT REZNORS DICK.

  • Teenagers need to feel musically cool makes me laugh.

  • the line between influence aand clear copy is very thin..

  • I don't hate Godsmack, but its undeniable that they rip off other bands. Every Godsmack fan in the world can argue and say that they don't but their completely wrong. This isn't an opinion, its a fact.

  • try AIC - I Know Something (bout you) and then Godsmack - Get up, get out. The singing melody in the verses are exactly the same :D

  • Godsmack have some good songs, but it unfortuanlly, i discovered it just was a AiC song.

Have no respect for the band really

  • Godsmack can play good but they can't create so they steal riffs from other bands. Lame

  • tell me what's the fuckin' difference if one song has some similar chords like in another song? if the song is good, it is good and you cant do something with it. you know, crappy band wouldn't do some asskicking music even if it steals all the material from another band.

  • @killeverybodyandance theres a difference between similar and the same. .. godsuck jumps right over the line. stealing alices song name alices logo and ripping off their song lyrics. "love hate sex pain" from godsuck = "love hate love" from alice and the line "love sex pain confusion suffering". i mean come on dude.

  • @laynestaley1990 get over it dude, Godsmack is a better band then AIC, i grew up with AIC, it doesn't bother me, and it never bothered the guys in AIC, so why does it bother you, plus out of all there songs what, there is three that have similarities, not a big deal douchebag.

  • @Sicnet92 THEY ALL sound like hes trying to be layne staley.. the harmonies his voice and even their name and logo is ripped off from AIC... thats not cool. Also your actually mentally challanged if you think godsmack is better than AIC. lyrically and musically AIC is about 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times better than godsmack. Its not even a matter of opinion, youre just wrong. I cant even begin to convey how much better AIC is.

  • your stupid Hammer jingle and the enemy are extreamly just cause it has the same tempo doest mean their ripping off someone fucking retard

  • @Maddax99 You Godsmack fans crack me up. Also, the fact that you're 13 doesn't make me give much of a crap about your musical opinion.

  • Pixelbath, you sarcastic sonofabitch...loving the comebacks... :)

  • @pixelbath ok well then let me say something what makes you think that these bands didnt rip off godsmack you fuckin 14 yr old punk. either get a life or think more in depth with shit

  • @xxguardianangelxx1 Because these songs came first dumbass. especially all the alice shit they ripped off. How could alice have ripped off Godsmack. Did they go fowards in time to steal shitty songs from an even shittier band and make them better? The fact that you cant figure out the answer to your own question is an example of how idiots can rip off good bands and sell it to idiots like you who ( from a lack of musical exploration) have no clue its a rip off and listen to it.

  • @laynestaley1990 Ok dude maybe it sounds like they ripped them off but really if you listen to any band they are bound to sound like another one but that don't mean they ripped them off it just means they have a similar writing style thus making them a good band (example Alice in chains and godsmack) two very successful bands. And if they indeed did rip them off there would a lawsuit and one of them would lose their music. But no lawsuit. get a life and listen to the fuckin music

  • thats not how it works. ripping off and actually stealing the riff are two seperate things. and you are correct many bands have done it. but godsmack not only took their name from an alice song but stole their logo from alice too. and then they have stated that they dont understand why people relate their music to alice... even sully said layne was the reason he started singing. i think id have more respect for them if they were open about the fact that have been massively influenced by alice.

  • @laynestaley1990 yes sully said layne was reason HE started singing i agree with you there but not the reason he started godsmack. like i said similar sounds means same style of writing not always ripping off. and the logo thing i dont wanna be apart of cus i really dont care about a logo as long as the music is good i dnt care. but honestly just be happy they are makin good music and shitty stuff like pop or rap

  • @laynestaley1990 yes sully said layne was reason HE started singing i agree with you there but not the reason he started godsmack. like i said similar sounds means same style of writing not always ripping off. and the logo thing i dont wanna be apart of cus i really dont care about a logo as long as the music is good i dnt care. but honestly just be happy they are makin good music and not shitty stuff like pop or rap

  • LOL..!! This video is garbage.

I can sit here and match Metallica to Megadeth all fucking day.

This video is fucking stupid.. It proves nothing but finding a couple of songs that sound the same, Holy FUCKING Shit!~!

As WEBN(radio station) of Cincinnati,OH would say, " Just Shut Up And Rock! "

  • @BUDWEISERNFL123 And it's not even the same, Its SIMILAR!!

  • @BUDWEISERNFL123 Dave Mustaine wrote some songs for Metallica when he was in the same band, you know. Metallica stole credit for them, blah blah, Dave Mustaine's still got butthurt about it, and apparently so do you.

"It proves nothing but finding a couple of songs that sound the same" Yeah, that's kinda the only thing this video is doing. Glad that didn't slip by you.

  • @BUDWEISERNFL123 stop QQing

  • A lot of bands get their inspiration from other bands

  • @AEmoCat Cool story, bro.

  • @AEmoCat yeah but not a lot of bands get thier SONGS from other bands

  • @AEmoCat

    >inspiration

    >plagiarism

    Pick one.

  • - Not trying to plug my vids but I just posted a vid of another comparison. I caught it at 3 AM day of release of The Oracle. I heard it immediately. "Godsmack "Good Day to Die" Influence Part 2" is the title. I draw the line at ganking gold from MetallicA!

  • It's been a little while since I heard the song, but I believe that Voodoo and "Long Gone Day" by Mad Season are pretty similar as well.

The "Nice Shot" one's a little iffy to me, but the NIN one almost sounds as if Trent stole the mic.

  • @whiskers1138 Wow, good call. I can still find plenty of differences between the two, but the timing for the bass line is pretty similar. Also couldn't help notice how much the singer for Mad World sounds a bit like Layne Staley at times.

I agree that the Filter one is pretty tenuous, especially since they're in different keys on two different instruments.

  • @pixelbath That's because Mad Season was a grunge supergroup, if you will. Mark Lanegan (spelling?) sang lead on the song with Layne supplying back up vocals IIRC. Pearl Jam's Mike McCready's on guitar, too. Damn, I really need to dig that CD out...

  • hey man godsmack was just starting in that album and he thanked trent for that riff it wasnt a rip off it was i tribute so your mad at them for showing respect?

  • Really? It seems doubtful, since not only are Godsmack fans some of the most rabid when it comes to defending mediocrity, but Sully Erna seems to have never said this, EVER. There are other Godsmack fans who would disagree, and tell you that this wasn't ripped from Nine Inch Nails at all.

I'm not mad at them for showing respect; in fact, I'm not mad at all. I think they're pretty dishonest about their "inspirations" though.

  • @pixelbath he did say it dumb ass look it up..

  • @Sicnet92 And I should bother to do that...why? Sully Erna admitting he got the riff from someone else doesn't suddenly make my video magically wrong; it just proves that Godsmack DOES, in fact, sound like other bands!

  • omg! godsmack sucks balls! nice video!
