@ArcaClan Yes. Torque 3D comes with the source code in C++ and utilizes a scripting language called Torque Script. Nearly everything you will do with creating gameplay will require a bit of Torque Script to accomplish.
@medemon123 You can make just about any kind of game with Torque3D, as long as you don't mind getting down and dirty with heavy scripting and/or C++ programing. Your imagination (and programing skills) is the limit.
Other engines (UDK, Unity, or CryEngine are the major players) may suit you needs as well, but very few come with the full source code or as generous a license.
@souleben ORGE is less a game dev platform and more of raw-engine. You won't find tools out of the box to help you with the game logic. I am unfamiliar with Panda3D. Unity and Torque are similar in features and community support. Honestly, it's all going to come down to which platform you want to develop on, and which platforms you want to release on. Try Unity and Torque and see which best suits your style. Also, Torque is built around a very solid multiplayer sever/client system.
@BuddyDoQ Yeah, I decided to go with Torque. Im going to try it out and see how it goes, it seems that it's easier than hardcore C++ :P. Unity seemed too overkill for me since I just want basic gfx.
BTW, was it hard to make that third person view/character? Because that's exactly what I want to do.
@souleben Awesome! No 3rd person in this video is simple, just press Tab. I'm also using a package called 3D Action Adventure Kit that has more robust 3rd Person cameras and player movement.
Also, don't sell Torque3D short on the gfx department, the rendering engine is very powerful and is more than capable of next-gen level graphics!
@GameAdvice4U Yes. Torque3D comes with a basic FPS game out of the box. Additionally with 1.2 (coming soon), GarageGames will be offering up a BIG tutorial that covers developing a fully-featured FPS from scratch. I'm very much looking forward to it myself, as they used the creation of this FPS game to fix and tweak editor features to be more stable and user friendly. :)
@JEZGaming No, Torque is not available for free, you will need to pay for it. If you choose to go through TPB, you will not be able to post in the super-awesome T3D private forums, an invaluable resource, and has saved my bacon more than once. Also, Kork the Torque Orc will cry :(
They are still offering T3D for $99, but they recently said the sale will end soon, I would recommend picking it up ASAP.
@crazyquinn121 Not too familiar with Maya specifically, but I have worked with characters that I know were modeled and animated with it; they look and function very well.
I'd recommend a Windows 7 PC, anything Core2Duo or better on the CPU, 4gigs of ram or more, and with a nice high end video card.
Yes, there's a few options available, including full real-time physics. I've not played with these features much, but there's cool a resource on the GG site called Damage and Destruction.
You're welcome! Is there anything extra special you would like to see? I'm thinking weapons or environment props from start to finish next, would that be cool?
@BuddyDoQ Sounds good! I'm new to the whole program, and game software all together, so the basics would be appreciated. I also have no idea how scripting works, other than that it uses C++ or something? A 'scripting for dummies' tutorial would probably be appreciated by a lot of people.
@MrSensei1231 Thank you! Have you seen the new T3D getting started page? Just came out with 1.1 final, and it's really good material. You can find it on Garage Game's site.
It would be great if you could tell us some of the filters and the filter values you used in photoshop. Hard to see in pixelated video. I think you detailed where you saved all your files except maybe the detail map. A few little touches like that and I'd love to throw this up on the Garage Games site (new tutorials section coming soon).
@TheBassPanda Thanks! You're exactly right. I made a 3D shape that was loosely in the form of a waterfall, set the texture to scroll, and tossed in some particles. Just trying out different techniques; I feel this will work best for waterfalls you cannot reach, as the effect is diminished when the player gets too close.
Do you need code in torque3d and when which language???

Hi,
I'm trying to do make a small multiplayer 3rd person shooter game, Do you think that Torque is good for this? I've been mostly contending:
OGRE, Panda3D, Unity and torque.
I dont want good graphics, I want speed and ease of developement. I see you made a prototype in this vid like it. Do you think torque will be good?
BTW, good video :) Thanks!

That waterfall is beautiful, may I ask how did you do that? I can see several particle emitters, but is the blue shape behind them an actual object?
