Nokia n79 review - minor issues

I see where you're coming from, but I've had the phone for 5 days now and these minor issues are totally worth putting up with. It's a great phone, specially with firmware 30+.

i know i have that mobile 11.049 is better but still very buggy. update your mobile to 11.049 and install the new n-gage. n-gage contains files like direct X for pc, makes your mobile open photos faster.. and keep your mobile memory empty save things only to your micro sd :)

just type *#0000# in main screen and it will take u to the phone specifications menu, there u hit the options and click check for updates, and one is available it will downloaded, although u will need a gprs/edge/3g or wifi connection.

Hey guys, I don't have the phone but maybe someone with the N79 can try holding down the center button of the d-pad. In the middle of the navi-wheel.

Hold it down while the phone is locked. I dunno if it will work but for my E71, when the phone is locked, if i hold down the center d-pad button, the time, date, and a key symbol (representing locked) show up. All white font though, not the screen saver.

Yh that happens with the N79 but it happens when you press the left selector key.

Thought it was just my phone - but perhaps it's designed to be like that? :/

I think your fon is a factory test version, cos the best ones are those which come late, does anyone know the cheapest price i can get this fon, and any shop suggestions will be appreciated.

I have the same phone and I also have these problems. when the screen saver activates, it only lasts for about 3 seconds, after that, the screen turns blank...so u can't see the time or date until u unlock. also, I really hope they fix the video player issues... or maybe someone can recommend another player. also, the transition effects....are really slowing the phone down... and it takes a lot of time to get trough the menu, especially the multimedia menu...I wish I could deactivate them :((

software update does the trick ,and theres a add-software for those smileys too (i had on n73)

i have a n81 and there's a button to mark messages, it's this button; '#', does the n79 has this too? To mark any message you like?

bout ur n79 issues:

-good video

-about light time out,powersaver,the screen shut off when it locks,and the thumbnails are normal.. sometimes they're annoying but i also saw them in my n78 and n85 (they're s60 FP2) and my conclusion is that's normal.

-oh dear,about the marking items.. have u ever try to press # then scroll it down/up..?

symbian has replace edit button with # button.. just try it..

-there are different advantages between using "video centre" and "gallery"

Great review. So what do you think about this phone? People who liked N73 will certainly love this one. Although the phone is new there are not bigger software issues (it works smoothly), camera is very good, battery is excellent and its not overpriced. I think i will buy this one or wait till the N-series touchscreen phone is released =)
