Activision officially announced Modern Warfare 2 today and as with the trailer, there was no Call of Duty prefix on the game's title in the press release. Guess they figured the COD4: MW was popular enough (and different enough from the World War 2 roots of the series) to deserve its own brand. It's also possible that Infinity Ward and Treyarch got tired of sharing a brand. Still, the Call of Duty name has so much heft that it seems like a weird move.
I think your right, Activision might be banking on extreme popularity of COD 4 MW to carry this game and just leave all the WW2 stuff to treyarch. Thanks for posting this BTW.

Exactly eh? Treyarch fucked up Call of Duty: World at War with one thing. Zombies. Treyarch has a history of making garbage games with zombies in them. They just had to put it in. They fucked up. If it wasn't for Treyarch, CoD would still be CoD.

1. Don't judge the game by a 15 teaser trailer
2. IW makes they're games 10x greater than Treyarch could ever spit out which is why they dropped the Call of Duty thing
3. Who cares about the hype, it'll still be kick ass. as long as they dont put stupid stuff in it like what you see on FutureWeapons.

It's a good move to break away from the CoD name. Modern warfare is a far better game than any of the WWII Cod games and deserves its own franchise.
