  • You can target different areas of muscles!!! All or none principle is for the motor units of individual muscle fibers. Each muscle fiber either contracts fully or not at all. This is not true for the entire muscle! Each muscle has a ton of muscle fibers. If the all or none principle was true for chest, we would all have a fully developed chest!!!

  • @Raylet2: Just get an adjustable bench and some dumbbells or a barbell. Incline targets the upper chest, flat the middle, and decline to lower.

  • What he ment is that the tension is greater on the inner part of his chest. When you do push ups, the closer your hands are to each other (triangle push up) the more tension it will put on the inner part of the chest. Then as you move your hands further, the tension will be greater towards the lateral part of your chest.

    if I do only first exercise, I really got soared at my inner chest. if I do only second exercise my lower chest get soared. I HAVE TRIED by myself. So, please ask your own body. don't ask books. It is sure if you only do only bench press all the time, your chest will look like shit. That's why there are variety of chest exercises ,that's why it is called BODY BUILDING.

By the way the biological term for the inner (or "under) chest is "pectoralis minor" and it is located underneath the Pectoralis minor. ABC 123, contract your muscles and get results. No, Different work outs target different things. People say its genetics that gives them the bad pecs but its not, its the limited work outs they do.

    the cable flys keep the tension through the whole movement, when you use dumbells and you let them down to the floor you stretch the outer pec, you´re on top of the movement (the dumbbells above the pecs) the tension is low/gone, so you CAN work inner/outer pecs with the cable version

And thats how i used to train - thinking that any chest exercise will target and as a result grow the chest proportionately. WRONG. Hey maybe for some or even most people it does. But my chest only developed in the outer regions with nothing in the middle (with perfect, sufficient diet and sleep too). Have finally found the key - altering my exercises, and now my inner chest is FINALLY growing.

  • All or none principle is for a motor unit!!!! not the entire muscle. There are a ton of muscle fibers that make up a particular muscle. If the all or none principle was true for an entire muscle then we would all have well developed chest just by doing flat bench!

  • To see proof of this check out athleanx chest workout. You can clearly see the different areas of muscle fibers contract harder with the change in flye position.

    before you speak try it out yourself. do normal bicep curls (wich actually focuses the tension to the lower part of the bicep) and you will grow significantly more in the lower area of the bicep and less in the upper.

    (less or none in the upper part)

  • Not as far as being separate muscles. But, the "inner" and "outer" areas of the muscles can be targeted. It's actually what I'm working on now. I did bench press and dips so long my "outer" chest grew but the "inner" kind of lagged. That's what flyes, pec dec flyes, and cable crossovers will help with.

  • Check out dumbbell flies. You can do flies flat, inclined or declined and the angle will vary which part of your chest you are working.

    Though I don't remember whether incline flies work the upper or lower chest. That's actually what I'm searching for right now.

    a good exercise to do is do flat bench dumbell press with your legs up, and twist the weights when going up so that your pinkies are side by side.

    you'll feel a pinch in the whole curvature of your lower pecs.

    a lot of people also do weighted dips for their lower chest

  • try flat, incline and decline dumbell flys for your chest and do declining sets. have a spotter, start with a weight you can do a max of 10 to 15 reps as soon as you fail your spotter hands you a lighter weight, work to fail, 8 to 15 reps. your spotter hands you the next lighter weight, rep til fail.... work out the weights that get you to fail at between 8 and 15 reps, never under 8 never over 15... your chest will grow... wait til u feel that burn, it will be like nothing youve felt before....
