im irish and this is one of my fav song , wish we had a great football team and some 1 to write a song like this well done scotland are celt brothers .:)
Filmed at Prestwick Airport,I was 16, me & my mates went along after school & there was hardly anyone there,so we got in the video! When 'Durie' traps the ball, the foot u see is my mates, he's still got the old scabby shoe as a(small)claim to fame.Quality song by a top band,oh and by the way,if it hadn't been for tom boyd scoring an own goal,we'd have got a draw against the boys from brazil,in fact if the ref had spotted Dunga's handball we would've had another penalty & secured a famous victory
Oops seem to have touched a nerve with that anecdote(that means biographical story in case you're wondering). Why would I make something as rubbish as that up? Like I said its a shite claim to fame but one that did happen nonetheless. Mind you, if you don't believe me then I'm sure I'll be able to get over it somehow with the right sort of councelling and support.
Without a doubt excellent song. but a terrible football anthem. Just not fast enuff. Its the sort of thing you here playing in a slow mo reply of highlights after a teams actaully won the event. As I said though great song I actual bough it when it came out and still have the CD.
Brilliant song, up there with "We have a dream". Sums up supporting Scotland so well. Had never seen the video, LOL at the Gordon Durie take on Cantona's 'Au revoir' Nike ad. And Colin Hendry- a legend.
Boring video. But what does that matter? It´s still the best damn football song ever made, in my opinion. And I´m not scottish. (@ adsuminperpetuum: why are you comparing this song to Chumbawamba´s "Tubthumbing"?)
Chumbawamba's "Tubthumping" was the English song for the World Cup in 1998. Del Amitri Justin Currie's "Don't come home too soon" was the Scottish song for the World Cup in 1998. Just thought that comparing both, lyrics and music, "Don't come home too soon" is a masterpiece. Just my opinion.
I remember as a 12 year old in 1998 then they had a TOTP sing off or something between the Three Lions 98 and this. And despite being English I preferred this anthem by a country mile.
I'm English, but I love this fucking song, and Del Amitri in general. And with Celtic being my 2nd team, and Big Dunc being my favourite player ever, I'll always have an place in my heart for (most things) Scotland.
tartan army best ever ,tell that 2 manchester when they were on rampage , they can be real animals like the english , and i like the sweaties ,they have a great country ,and people so friendly , but please ,they not the best fans
you are extremely ignorant. Although travelling Scottish fans are very well behaved, when they travel with their clubs it is a different matter. It does not mean that their supporters must be from a different country.
The vast majority of the morons who shamed the nation in Manchester will never go near a Scotland game.
The record of the Tartan Army is superb- Belgium, 15,000 of us and no arrests plus being the first foreigners to receieve an award from the Mayor of Brussels for sporting behaviour.
Dortmund, 2003- 15,000 of us, again, commended for our friendly behaviour.
A lot of people dished this song on its release, stating that it wasn't giving the Scottish squad a good moral boost. This, I feel, was very unfair. It's consise and honest. Which is more that can ever be said about ANY England squad song that's ever been concieved!
I remember leaving school and running home to catch the 4 o'clock kick off against Brazil at home. I was so proud that we scored against the world champions. The rest is history as they say...but listening to this song and remembering how it made me feel then...I really cannie wait until we can go again and show the world what a great footballing country Scotland has become. Excellent song...brings a tear to my eye!
One of the best football songs ever? Guaranteed to bring a tear to the eye of any Tartan Army footsoldier. A brilliant video as well. Thanks for posting.

Just bought a France 98 top to remind me of better times. Classy shirt and a classic song. Pity I was too young to appreciate what we had back then.

England had at least two songs for France 98. Three Lions 98 and Vindaloo. Tubthumping was the tournament's official song I think.

Rubbish and pure arrogance.

keefm2005 3 years ago
Actually, it does. The very large section of hardcore Rangers fans - the kind who went to Manchester - do not support the Scottish national team.
The fact that they sing at every away game "You can shove yer tartan army up yer arse!" pretty much shows that.
