How can ppl say he had no chin, he got up when he go hit n da chin by Tarver, ALL OF HIS KOs WERE TEMPLE SHOTS, GLEN JOHNSON, DANNY GREEN (AND HE GOT UP N DEY STOPPED DA FIGHT EARLY WHN HE WAS READY 2 FIGHT), N DENNIS LEBEDEV!!! All were TEMPLE SHOTS!!! Just cuz u get knocked out doesnt mean u dont have a gud chin ESPECIALLY WHEN DA KOs R TEMPLE SHOTS!!! Look at Tyson hes been ko mo den Roy but his chin was never questioned cuz he a GREAT CHIN!!! ROY had a good chin end of story!!!
Roy Jones in his prime had a decent chin. You can't be a world class fighter without having at least that. Still compared to other world class fighters he didn't have a great chin. A great chin doesn't just become weak when you go up and down in weight. In his prime Jones was hit clean every once in a while. Still other fighters have taken numerous harder punches in one fight and stayed on their feet.
U know I've always wondered if Jones knew he had lost alot of things when he came back down from 200 to 175 because u could see in the ring he was a different kind of boxer than he used to be.
Hey usman just wanted to say thanks for all these videos. You are a very good editor and I really liked watching the career highlight videos. Would love to see more if you enjoy doing them and have the time. Anyway, I've subscribed, and thanks again
What this video mainly shows is that, in his prime, Roy rarely got hit cleanly - and when he did it wasn't by devastating blows. Roy had an average chin, you cannot be a world champion boxer without having at least that. But its almost impossible to say he had a good one because the first time he got caught with a bomb on the chin he was out for the count.
Jones had one of the best chins he took all the best shots from Castro who was a huge puncher, Hopkins, Toney, Ruiz, and Griffin.. I was shocked to see Traver KO Jones after the traver fight Jones should have quit boxing..
i dont see any good punchers. I just see him flinching to people who hit as hard as lightweights. Heres a fake chin video this just makes his chin look like fragile glass. Watch Muhammad ali vs JOe frazier (highlights). If U understand how hard Frazier u'd understand thats he had a granite chin. Roy Jones taken punches from bums and flinching. Ray leonard took tommy hearns right hand means he has a chin. A drained ali took holmes punches, so being drained doesnt change ur chin.
Terrible video, a 'chin video' is supposed to show a fighter getting hit, instead of that you've posted loads of footage of him hitting his opponents for the most part
@supplementscene did u read the start of the video, it says to take AND to come back from a good punch. theres loads of clips of him gettin hit, but also shows him hittin other people. n plus any roy jones compilation video aint complete until u see him knockout at least three people lol
tarver torchered him the 1st fight and finished him in the 2nd. He came back early to fight glen who did the same thing tarver did but in 1 fight. IT WAS A CARRY OVER!!
I think Roy's chin in his prime was OK. The main thing it was really hard to hit him clean in his prime. However, he got knocked down once in his prime and he recovered well. I think the huge weight loss and the after effects of steriods exagerated the weakness in his chin...
Roy got hit lots in his prime, I suggest you re-WATCH the vid he made man, those are some pretty good shots he was taking, or was it to fast for you to see? The difference was he had the stamina and speed back then to say ok your going the fuck down now because you hit me too much already, he lost that when he went heavyweight.
nice video, but 245 or so montel griffin is all over roy in that first fight, roy is grabbing the ropes for stability but it may look like he's doing the sugar ray thing to get the crowd in it but he's partially drunk from the shots
i alwasy knew jones chin was better before he went up to HW. ay MW i never saw him hurt once,lh only the odd stun but after he came back down he didnt seem the same.
reason that i didnt realy mention that is because if you watch the fight it was more of a slip in my eyes cos the ring was soaked but he did get hit flush.
Its not the size of the shot as much as it is if you see it coming. Any good boxing trainer will tell you. Roy got blasted by a hard shot he didn't see coming...and went down. Happens to the best. Not rocket science...its the sweet science...put away your calculators.
does anyone else HATE the way montell griffin fights...his elbow sticks out on jabs and throws SWEEPING hooks. he jus makes boxing look hard and it looks like it comes unnatural to him..jus annoys me
roy had a hell of a chin, the onlyreason he lost is because he kept movingup and down in weight classes, idont know what everyone else was watching, but roy owned the entire decade of the 90's
@mrallcity313 And the very early 2000's. He fell off almost halfway through this past decade... 2004!!! He dominated since 1990!! thats 14 years of owning the throne. Ppl are just blinded by his cockiness so they say oh roy was good but he couldn't do this or that blah blah blah. Roy could do anything and everything in his prime.
Roy Jones was simply the best fighter out there, and still makes an enduring impression when you see him fight. His next fight will be on Aug. 15 vs. Jeff "Left Hook" Lacy. I believe Lacy will be owned; I also believe that Roy's ego wont let him stop boxing and that he needs to prove himself one last time. USMAN RJJR You are simply the best at making his videos man, thank you for this great videos, truely the best.
Roy should've worked his way down to Light Heavyweight.
After his historic trip and victory at Heavyweight he should have gone down to Cruiserweight. Then have two or three fights there and weigh-in at 180-190 at that division. Then he would've made 175 no problem. :D
But no he went down 25 pounds!! Because he got careless and selfish!
But Roy was just SO DOMINANT.
Man that sucks that Roy will never be the same. :/
That 25 pounds of lost muscle drained RJ of strength and took something out of his ability to absorb a punch. It would have been better if he stayed at HW and finished out his career. Even if he'd gotten ko'd at HW, it wouldld have been just like: "Well..he wasn't a true heavy weight'. I KNEW it was a bad decision going back down to LW, but I didn't realize the level of the disastor it would be. I think you should just edit out 2003-present and just remember him from his last fight with Ruiz.
like mmcneil777 said u definatly have a gift makin videos. u should do it professionally. respect for makin all the rj videos. he is 1 of the greatest and always will be
I wish Calzaghe came into his own in Roy prime so the two met b/c i still think Joe's workrate could have gave Jones all he could handle. Still too fast and powerful, Roy by Ko in 11 in a fight that defines Roy as the greatest
Great video. Jones, during his prime, was down only one time and rarely shaken or hurt. His chin was fine until he lost 10 lbs of muscle and tried to move down to LHW at age 35... even Byrd got KO'd by a light hitting LHW after taking one hell of a shot at heavyweight.
I believe it was the end of round 8 when Toney caught Roy with a left hook. The ref jumped in to soon. Who knows if it Toney could have gotten in a couple more big shots. Who knows? However, the shot Toney got him with was similar to Tarvers. Maybe not quite as strong, but a strong punch anyway. Roys body fell back, but he caught himself and recovered. I believe it showed the difference of pre-hw jones and post-hw jones. The steroids didn't help either..
thats totally different..tarver walks around at 200 lbs..toney lost that fight easy..it does show the difference bcuz roy was 34 losing that type of weight it did more than jus weight drain him but put his body n 2 a debilitation state..he lost the attributes that made him great..that being mainly his reflexes..and steroids? if u wanna count the thing that happened wit him & richard hall than okay..but hall who started the whole thing tested positive to..lets not forget toney tested positive 2.
and u say toney hurt roy n rd. 8? are u serious..that wasnt even close 2 the punch tarver threw..tarver is WAYY bigger than toney..tarver had is eyes closed n winged a big shot that put roy down..toney threw a shot tha caught roy but didnt even phase him cuz as soon as the ref came n toney landed anotha punch wen steele separated them roy taunted toney n threw a flurry that backed toney up..n earlier n that same round roy hurt toney wit a body shit that drove him n2 the ropes.
Great video. You have a gift. You should pursue it. This showed that RJ had a better chin when he was younger. I think he had an OK chin in his prime. Mainly he was super elusive. I think that showed the effects of the weight loss made. Watch Byrd at LW recently and it shows the effects of drastic weight loss.
Tis Vid is the truth..he could take a punch..the reason y he was so hard 2 hit was cuz of his lateral movement accompanied by his opponents being gunshy bcuz of how fast he could lead or counter them..afta the HW match his lateral movement diminshed completely so did his reflexes sumwhat..thats y n his previous fights he lays on the ropes n wasnt pressure the fighters were giving him..his legs left him..so he had 2 deal wit fighting off the ropes..has KO power..but cant pull the trigger anymore.
To whoever designed this vid..Just want to say thank you. This vid tells the truth about Roy Jones. Many of you have seen my vids on Roy and Ive explained these very same facts about Roy! Much appreciation to UsmanRJJR!
In essence, is greatest achievement was his greatest mistake. Well the mistake was coming back down, the weight loss killed him... Also factor in that he played with his weight so drastically at such a late part of his career.
ppl 4get roy was alredy 33 or 34..losing 20 lbs. of muscle 2 get back down 2 LHW at the age losing that weight doubled his age n the ring..nobody can saw roy had a glassjaw..it took 15 ys. 4 him 2 lose much less get KO'd..so either roy got chin checked for 15 yrs n still kicked ass or didnt get hit for 15 yrs? roy started at jr. middleweight he took a natural HW's punch [John Ruiz] who outweighted him by 30 lbs..the only fighter that dropped prime roy was lou de valle..roy got up 2 beat him..
