  • Back Ti-i-ime

  • i wished coke got erased so my parents would only buy pepsi

  • is really this ad from 1985? are you sure it's not from 1990? I mean this because 1885 was the year in which back to the future 3 (released in 1990) is set, so what a coincidence it would be if they chose exactly the same year back to the future part 3 would use when it was released 5 years later. just saying.

  • @t3b4n22 - I promise that this is from 1985. I acquired the recording in 1986 -- they release previous seasons' commercials for educational analysis. BTW, Back to the Future (first one) was released in 1985. Remember in the story arc of the 3 movies, Marty starts in 1985, visits 1955, 2015, 1955 again, an alternate 1985, and finally 1885 - albeit 1885, as you say, was for the 3rd film (in 1990). 1985 was the 100th anniversary of Coke... that was THEIR campaign that year - which Pepsi lampoons.

  • I do see what you are saying though... but remember that Michael J. Fox and Back to the Future both had ties to Pepsi going back to the first Back to the Future (1985). There is strong Pepsi product placement in Back to the Future I -- Marty even orders a "Pepsi Free" from the 1950's diner (Pepsi Free is sugar free Pepsi - and a 1985 product). And if you look at other of my posts, you'll find Fox doing an ad for Pepsi. Anyway, trust me... the ad is from 1985.

  • i guess we (or everybody) could help

    *sun glasses*

    to save the cola

    YYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH

  • Coke has more of an acid taste and you can barely taste the cola. Pepsi is sweeter and you can actually taste the flavoring.

  • RIP Bruno.

  • BRUNO KIRBY!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!

  • wow! cool commercial.. very cool commercial :D

  • when the time machine starts it says 1986, which was the centenary of coke, so i think the ad is from that year

  • Pepsi sucks!!

  • if u wanna pepsi pal u gotta pay for it XD

  • I've never seen this spot before. That one guy is familiar, can't place the name. Very clever.

  • If i got sent back to 1885 i would be storing as much coke a cola that i could... Back then one of the ingredients was actually cocaine... I could make a mint selling that product over the more recent coke a cola...

  • CAMPBELL: TIME PARADOX!

  • Back to the future spoof?

  • my favorite bieffects of time travel ever.

  • i used to be a pepsi........then i tasted vanilla coke

  • Because of Pepsi, my daddy lost his job at Coca-cola and I and my little sister have nothing to eat!....strike that...to drink!

    :)

  • This commercial is from 1985 so I am assuming it was inspired by Back To The Future... Which Pepsi had product placement in as well.

  • The presence of a Pepsi machine is understandable - know your foe. BUT!

    1) Why is Coke sending somebody back to 1885?

1b) And how did they get time travel?

    2) Why is a Coke employee wanting a can of their competitor?

2b) Barring the whole "learn your foe" thing?

    3) How did the men not notice the Pepsi can until it disappeared?

3b) And why did the building they came out of change before it disappeared?

    4) Why this shameless ripoff of "Back To The Future III"?

4b) ...Or did this come first?

  • 5a) Why are you an idiot? i. This is a commercial; NOT reality. ii. They "got time travel" as a part of "willing suspension of disbelief." This is a similar concept to understanding where Superman "got flying." iii: These scientists are NOT employees of a soft drink company-think COLLEGE, which, I realize, is a completely foreign concept to you. iv: YES this is a rip-off of mid-80's popular culture-like Back to the Future! (the ORIGINAL-this was 1985). HELLO?!?!?! McFly?!?!??!

  • 1) I realize that, but it is being presented as reality.

    2) Completely understood. I am merely asking questions that any ordinary viewer would ask.

    3) They're in Coke labs.

    4) And yet the commercial reflects on BTTF3.

3a) As for your "college" comment, is that any way to treat a commenter with good intentions? I don't care what stuff you've posted, because I'm blocking you.

  • juz stfu. do u get paid for saying all this bullcrap ?

  • No, and First Amendment.

  • Where did you see that they are in Coke lab? derp.

  • I've got to go back in time, to prevent Americans from drinking Pespi, eating soo much crap, sitting on their asses watching Deal or No Deal and getting fat!

  • bttf rip off

  • 1885!!!

  • Pepsi ads are always better

  • yeah but coca cola is always better drink ajhahahahah

  • Hey Pepsi be nice!

  • just moved new area

    looking for friends H0

  • so what do you mean not for air, did you make it. or did they, but they didnt relese it

  • lol its a total Back To The Future Parody/Copy, with the 1885 and all like how things erased... And DOC!!!

  • When that building disappeared all I could think about was the jobs that also disappeared.

  • how did coke agree to that ?

  • was that bruno kirby

  • But, if there wasn't Coke, there won't Pepsi...

    I like Coke.

  • Which is better? Coke or Pepsi?

  • Pepsi of course! :)

  • Pepsi has more sugar.

    Coke has more carbonation.

    Diet pepsi is basically nothing

    Diet coke is carbonated water.

People prefer pepsi cause of the sugar.

  • oh, the cola wars!

  • I prefer coke but this is a great ad

  • how is 1885 a new generation??

  • coke is better with pepsi

  • *gasp* Blaspheme!

  • noo.. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

NOTHING BUT CARBONATED PISS IN A CAN FOR THE REST OF TIME??!!! NOOOO!!!!!

  • Cool ad. BTW, who did the CNG voiceover? He sounded a little bit Brtishy to me?

  • Never mind. That was Martin Sheen who did the voice-over.

  • A moment of silence for Bruno Kirby. This video is Pepsilent!

  • That's TERRIBLE! Think of all those poor hard-working Coke employees VANISHING into thin air! Ahh! Chaos! The horror! The humanity!

"I'm sorry, Johnny, mommy's not coming back from work. Someone brought a can of Pepsi into the past and all Mommies and Daddies who worked with Coca-Cola are NEVER COMING BACK! Here son. Have a can of Pepsi."

    :::Wahhhh Mommy!!!:::

    S-sorry.

  • Pepsi always loved to pick on Coke.

  • Great Scott

  • Bruno Kirby and Lewis Black?

  • that Bruno Kirby?

  • Don't think so, but I'm not sure but I do think Grant Shaud is the guy with glasses.

  • The thinner guy with the glasses I'm 99% sure is Aidan Gillen, also known as Tommy Carcetti on HBO's "The Wire"

  • Are you sure? Aidan would have been 17 years old when this was made -- the guy seems to be in his twenties.

  • @hmmmmmmmmm2 That is definitely Bruno Kirby (dark hair & beige sportcoat). Listen to the voice.

  • @hmmmmmmmmm2 It's Kirby.

  • @foppa123

    Definitely Bruno Kirby...RIP

  • @foppa123 Yes it is Bruno Kirby pause at :38, and the Joe Pesci like voice, it is ;) dont listen to anyone who differs

  • Did this actually air? Good jab at Coke's centennial.

  • Yes it aired. I remember seeing it; although my reference tape of it has the label "not for air." I thought it creative, too.

  • It just shows how Pepsi was trying to keep up with the "Back to the Future" popular movie of the time.

  • I think one of those guys was the newspaper publisher in "Where The Buffalo Roam" the orignal Fear In Loating In Las Vegas.
