Whenever a person pass away, for example a good musician like Eric Carr ,he automatically become a god.OK he was a good drummer but Eric Singer was levels above him
I remember reading an interview with this guy in Modern Drummer mag in 1990 (I think), when he was with Badlands. If I remember right, he said he'd only been playing drums from the age of 26. my point is this, he wasn't much older in his interview, after he was already famous - and that's a pretty rapid climb to fame.
everyone defneds peter with soul and shit...i mean i used to think that...but singer has so much soul and style and showmanship...peter was great for being the orignial and beshides creativity is always most important and singer doest stuff that criss or carr couldnt do together...and desptie what you think singer has more jazz influence then criss.
@JZDestruction I agree Carr was the best drummer Kiss has had but i dont think thats only because of his playing skills he brought so much passion when he was playing. Singer is still way better than peter in my opinion.
Peter was the original; jazz background, singer, pianist, with KISS through the mid-1980s, alot of hard drumming/touring that he paid for later......I think both Erics are fantastic, just different; With Buddy Rich gone, Neil Peart is about the best.
There are NO "best"(favorites yes) drummers. We are have our favorites and there are many icons,Neil Peart is a well respected drummer by many ,same as John Bonham.A drummers style varies and their favorites pend on it.None of them will agree they are"GOD" or the best, such as my "favorite" drummer's favorite is one of my least favorites, As times change styles follow, In my opinion this all goes for axe players ,vocalist, etc. This being my opinionaided comment -Not the best nor correct one.
I think that all three Kiss drummers where good for thier time. Kiss has always been that band that everyone turn to for Rock and Roll and these guys pounded them thru it.
Until KISS? Black Sabbath and even early Zeppelin and Deep Purple created what was metal in the 70's. It was called hard rock. KISS had glam and power in image especially in the beginning. But there music wasnt. Beatles, Stones, Kinks, more comparable to KISS than Zep & Sabbath. Room Service, Nothing To Lose, Cmon and Love Me, Calling Dr Love, R N R All Nite, etc. Also KISS was 3 min tunes 97% of the time. Now compare all of that to what they did in the 80's. Different music, different drummer.
Singer was Kiss' best drummer technically in Kiss but Peter was great too, just different time & styles. For the 70s Peter was the shit. Plus his background was more jazz opposed to Eric being rock . Peters no slouch he tore it up on reunion tour in his late 50s lets see if Erics still doin this when he reaches that age.
It has nothing to do with blowing someone out of the water. Two totally different drummers. It kills me on how KISS is regarded as metal and that now with metal drummers Peter is disrespected. KISS was never a metal band in the 70's. Christine 16, not metal for example. Why doesnt people give Bun E Carlos shit? Cheap Trick, not metal. The Stones, not metal. Anybody giving Watts shit? Ive been playing 31 years now. Theres a time to grow up and respect all drummers.
Be honest. Peter was NEVER a great drummer to begin with. Combine that with his huge pain in the ass ego and you get a guy who can't play anymore who wants more money. I've seen Peter live 4 times in the last 13 years and he got worse each time. They had to slow the songs down for him. No KISS fan wants that. Where was Peter's respect for the fans? The drugs became more important than the fans.
wow 4 times in the last 13 years. that does make you an expert at what you saw. Ive seen Pete 17 times since '79. Slowing songs down? That is BS. You listen to Let Me Go RNR and compare it to Scab KISS its the same tempo. Fills, chops and different rhythm have nothing to do with tempo. Ive met Peter 3 times and he was super super nice to me. Lets also not forget that Gene and Paul arent Geddy Lee or Steve Howe. Its real easy to hide behind those facts.
No what makes me an expert is that i grew up from day one in the music biz around the biggest names in music EVER & became an electrical engineer & work for the biggest for over 20 yrs now. Also I am a musician myself. Petes my fav why are u discussing like i talked bad about him?
Talked bad about him???? Jesus read your own shit. "No respect for fans, got worse each time". You saw him 4 times. Ive seen him and met him more. He hasnt got worse, hes gotten older. Hes also a different drummer. And slowing songs down is BS. Unless you compare it to Eric Carr back in the 80's there you are right they were playing DRC 100 miles an hour. But that doesnt make him a better drummer.
I never said anything bad about any of the drummers are u sick? Do u comprehend well? I only replied to someones comment saying peter was old & not in the class of Singer & I said he was in a different way & he kicked ass on the renunion tour for being in his mid 50s I said when SInger gets that age he will slow up too, & he has.
Im not sick. I just told you earlier that you are reading what Im saying to someone else. Its getting mixed up on here between kissdrumr and nykissfaneternal
Ive said it all along. Gene and Paul have done more damage to KISS in the last 7 years than Ace and Peter ever did. Greed, money and ego can do just as much if not more damage than drugs and alcohol. If the drugs and alcohol were that bad, why were they the biggest band during that time? I lived it since '75. Youve been brainwashed by Gene and Paul's over dramatic and exagerated statements over the years.
Why would you defend a guy who clearly didn't give a shit about the fans? I'm not brainwashed. I just go by what I see and hear. I've seen KISS after your precious original lineup was dismantled. Eric Carr and Eric Singer play better than Peter at the end of the day.
Define better drummer. Are you a drummer? My precious lineup? I bet Ive seen Eric Carr and Singer more than you. My point here is Im sick and tired of PC disrespect. Bad drummer, bad person, drugs was everything, bad to the fans. All BS. PC, Watts, Starr, Bun E Carlos, etc., etc., All great drummers, but different drummers. Just because they dont fit your obviously like in drumming dont make them worse or better. Id say Gene and Paul dont give a shit about fans sometimes. Same show fat wallets.
KISS just went to visit some wounded soldiers. They don't give a shit about their fans? Do you know how much charity they do that goes under the radar? I don't have to be a drummer to tell when somebody doesn't have it anymore. Peter can't play good anymore. It was time to move on.
When it come down to a 40% profit margin or 28% and it had to do with what the fans want, what do you think is going to happen. You just said on here that there aint nothing wrong with being successful and making more money, but with PC or Frehley its a different standard. He did his contract from 06 to 01 and wanted more money new contract. Sounds like the American way. Hes a founding member, and responsible for the 70's just as GandP. Tell that to a NFL player in his last yrs see what happens.
If Peter didn't like the terms of his contract he could have said fuck you and walked away but face it he was at rock bottom going nowhere. He was broke. His skills were declining so why would Paul and Gene give him more money? He bitched every night on the tour. He was back to his primadonna ways. Paul and Gene worked very hard to keep KISS going after Ace and Peter. It was the right thing to do. The point is Ace and Peter should have been more than satisfied with whatever they were paid.
If it was the other way GorP would be primadonna too. You seem to forget that GandP aint no better at their craft than Ace and Pete. Gene worked hard in the 80's are you kidding me. It was the birth period for what he does today. Paul did because he loved it because now he was at the spotlight without makeup. And dont get your first statement, that is what Pete did in 04. If anybody has been halfass the last 20 years it has been Gene. KISS is nothing but a plateau he needs for his other stuff.
BS you said on here that he was never good. What G and P do for charity is great. You dont think the original KISS didnt do that? Sorry there was no war back then and the military wasnt like you said under the radar. But they visited sick children and gave to charities just the same. But it is amazing how it all goes on Family Jewels including what they do on this tour. Gene even profits from that. Again brainwashed.
I meant the charity that KISS does goes under the radar not the military. Stop with the brainwashing shit. I'm a fan who calls it the way I see it. I embrace all eras of KISS. I'm not an original lineup purist like you. And yes even in the 70's Peter was ok. He is a jazz influenced drummer. Eric Carr was into Zep and Sabbath and made KISS a heavier band which is what they needed to do to continue. You give Gene for shit for making money. He came here with nothing and made something for himself.
Wow amazing how your steering the car a little different with PC now. A lot different from yesterday "Lets face it Peter was never a great drummer to begin with" I love the original lineup, I lived it. But purist? I never said nothing about Kulick, Carr, Vincent, or Singer. I said Just stop the scabbing they do today, and stop the PC bashing. Gene? money and power is as damaging as anything else. Again different standard with G and P. They do no wrong and cant be fired for it.
I didn't change anything. His skills were tolerable in the 70's. Paul and Gene own KISS. Of course they can't be fired. You call it scabbing. I call it KISS. Peter was never happy. He wanted to leave in the 70's. The solo albums was a way to make him happy. He always saw himself as the next Sinatra. Sinatra isn't KISS. Paul and Gene are entitled to everything they have. They gave a shit about the fans. Peter didn't. You never answered my ? Why defend a guy who didn't care about the fans?
I dont know how change is not involved, lets see tolerable, never good. Read your shit. Pete had no more Sinatra than Paul did. I answered your question 10,000 times. I dont agree with your not caring for fans, do you read? You havent answered if you play drums? But I know you have your own ear for them. Thank God a lot dont or wed have nothing but triplets, quads, and double bass in all music.
Are you serious? You don't think Peter stopped caring in 78 79? No I don't play the drums but I know what I like. And Peter's drumming sounded like shit in the 90's. You being a drummer doesn't make the supreme authority on it. My fav drummers Eric Carr, John Bonham, Neil Peart, and Eric Singer. To me double bass drumming shows progression. it gives songs a kick in the Ass. This argument is pointless. Its 2009. Peter is done as a drummer. You must accept it. Singer is better.
I dont must nothing. Double bass shows progression, what a BS statement. What do you do, not play but read all about it and then make your own BS up? I guess with your assesment John Bonham had more progression than Buddy Rich. LMFAO.
Ask other drummers if they think double bass shows progression. You can't be serious when you say Buddy Rich is better than Jon Bonham. You're a drummer and you're not in awe of Bonham? You take Rich and Gene Krupa and Watts and Liberty Devito, the guys playing the same groove for 30 years. I'll take Eric Carr, Eric Singer, John Bonham, Mike Portnoy, Tommy Lee, Neil Peart, Lars Ulrich, and Alex Van Halen. When you can play double bass you can laugh.
Lets put it straight to you, someone that listens to drums, ask Neil Peart himself who is better, Buddy Rich or himself. Dude triplets and quads are great but if you take one drum and one drum only, Rich would destroy Peart and Bonham. Tommy Lee, thats a good one. One who does nothing but quads during a drum solo. Same groove, thats funny too. You are the one that needs to ask other drummers, this one cant get it through your thick skull with drumming and with dissing PC.
It is 2009. Do you really believe that Peter can play 100%? You know he can't. On KISS/Aerosmith, he was sitting in his hotel room every night with his arms in ice. It was time to call it a day. Rich would destroy Peart and Bonham? LMFAO!!!!!!!!! It is not dissing Peter if it is true. He can't play anymore. Sorry you don't agree but Tommy Lee is an great drummer. Don't be mad that you never progressed like they did. I like double bass. I think it sounds great. You don't.
I love how you go off from the statements you have put on here from the beginning. Never said I didnt like double bass. YOU have stated that it is better drumming and better drummer. Wrong. A long time ago I would say bring any drummer on. Im just as good and I'll put Tommy Lee to shame. Im beyond that. I respect all drummers. I dissed Lee cause you dissed PC. Every night in ICE, you see it once and its all night. LOL. U Kill Me.
And secondly PC has never been broke. Down from multi million status? True. Broke. LOL. Another statement from Gene's mouth all through the 80's. Read other sources than just G and P. Talk to CK Lendt who Ive met that handled their finances from 76 to 88. Totally different stories than G an P. Talk to Aucoin, and some of their friends. Different stories. I dont hate G and P Remember Ive been a fan much longer. Im just know how to read between the lines with them. Especially Gene.
i'm a fan who likes what I like. We are from 2 different eras. I like Bonham's style. He played with ferocity. That is what I look for in drumming. He was a better drummer than Rich. That's for sure. I can only imagine how people felt when Zep came on the scene in 1969. Nobody had heard anything like that.
Finally a "drummers"comment i agree with. I've noticed comments on many vids that are plain stupid. sorry yall but a simple comment shows rather your a seasoned drummer (musician)or a jackass. Especially comparing,ANY drummers or using that bullshit phrase "Best Drummer" there aint a best, their are many icons in our industry and they carry rep's for different reasons. We all have personal favs but know it dosent make them the"BEST.
The phrase "Best Drummer " is very stupid to me. every style will obviously have its best drummers but you cant compare jazz with metal or any style for that matter. Every style is Unique. I also think most of the worlds best musicians are undiscovered and unknown
@chrisrocks2010 "Oh thats right,Im dam glad you came here and let us know that there is just ONE drummer that is better then ALL the others,Joey is best, kool we will keep that in mind next time Thanx
i was kidding just thought i'd pretend to be one of those guys my favourite drummers are neil peart, mike portnoy, daney carey, stewart copeland and derek roddy. i agree that there is no best drummer, or really best of anything in music.
Have you even seen KISS live with Tommy and Eric? I have and they are amazing. I've also seen Ace and Peter. Not in the 70's but on the reunion and Farewell tour. The point is I have seen both so I can say who I think is better. With Ace and Peter you get the first 6 albums. That is weak. They cut out 20 years of great tunes with Ace and Peter. Peter playing I love it loud is pollution to my ears. The best KISS shows I ever saw were Hot in the Shade, Revenge, Rock the Nation, and Alive 35.
Why do you call it scabbing? You know Peter sold his rights to the makeup back to Paul and Gene because he was broke. I'm sick of hearing Peter bitch about Eric in the makeup. What are Paul and Gene doing wrong? They're keeping the band going, still touring making many fans happy. Alive 35 is the biggest tour of all time. Translation? More people are coming out for Tommy and Eric than Ace and Peter. The fans are getting their money's worth.
Alive 35 biggest tour of all time. Again brainwashed from a G and P statement. Not in this country jack. If you add places that get a concert every blue moon and places they havent been in 10 to 20 years along with mediocre sell here, I guess Gene can say such BS. They cant top the reunion tour accept that fact. Did u even go to the reunion tour? Just curious.
check the stats about the tour. the numbers don't lie.I did go to the reunion but after seeing eric carr and eric singer tear it up,it was a step backward. Have you seen KISS with tommy and eric? I've seen both so I can say who I think plays better. Don't be bitter that KISS is doing just fine without the 2 ingrates.
numbers dont lie, did I tell you where these numbers come from? Man G and P can easily manipulate you. Just fine? Again what Gand P want you to know. Just like they did in the 80's. Do you know that around the Crazy Nights Tour GandP and Marks/Glickman mgmt were just about bankrupt? Facts show up later on with GandP, this era will too. Infact, numbers you say? Look at Pollstar with this tour in the U.S. Its not bad, but it aint great. Alive II, Reunion, and Farewell tours were great. Ive looked.
let me define just fine. KISS was making new music, touring the world, and still going on. Animalize , Asylum, and Crazy Nights all went platinum. Did you check the stats on the European leg of Alive 35? You are so anti Paul and Gene so you can't believe anything that contradicts your statements. Ask Peter why in public he will bitch about Eric wearing the makeup but he always leaves out the part about selling it back to Paul and Gene because he was broke. Pretty convenient.
So u been playing clubs since u were like 10? LMAO!!!! Im not brainwashed I watched every bit of Kiss throught the yrs & think all the members are equally as great. But shit happens & u gotta move on with others. Why should Paul & Gene sacrifice their dreams for 2 people that had different goals & visions? They had a right to go on, weather for money or just the job. Its not a crime to wanna be successful.
BS. Dreams? After 22 years, which is what it was up to the reunion, its about ego and greed. I dont have a problem with movin on or it wont work. But saying PC aint a great drummer is BS. KISS wanna go back to the Revenge era, or call it Simmons/Stanley like Plant and Page did, even better. Cause it aint KISS. Its Scab KISS and its BS. Ive been playing since 79. Im 42. And I actually started playin clubs when I was 15.
You forget KISS did just fine without Ace and Peter. They got better musicians, made new music, and toured the world making fans happy. "Cause it aint KISS." says who? you? Whatever. KISS rocks with Tommy and Eric. You don't like it fine but don't give the fans who do shit. Peter had a lot of balls to ask for more money. You get a second chance and start the same bullshit. Writing 5 songs in 30 years is not the work of a major player. Peter stopped caring. Remember that
First off 30 years 5 songs bold statement without finding out the facts. Singer 9 years off and on with KISS no songs written and one song finally sung on new album. PC, not been in KISS 30 years, but if you want to say 30 years count 5 solo albums plus KISS. You are the one on here bashing PC. Me giving fans shit. How bout you giving KISS fans shit who like PC. If u dont like PC, which u dont. How bout u shuttin it. Your comments were on here first.
Paul and Gene financed the reunion tour on their own money. Of course they are going to get a bigger cut. KISS is Paul and Gene's baby.Any band going 30+ years is going to have different members. Nothing wrong with that at all. Better drummer = plays harder faster and double bass. 3 things Peter doesn't do and they did slow the songs down to accomodate Peter. If you are this master drummer you claim to be you should be able to hear the difference. Peter's best days are behind him.
Financed the money themselves? Your full of crap. They had promoters all over the place. That was there problem in the early 80's especially on the Creatures tour having no promoters. You didnt answer whether you play drum yourself. Harder, faster and double bass, wow that makes a lot of bad drummers out there in the world according to your ear. And again show me a tune that is slowed down, audio or video. And show me a tune where Singer plays it note for note. I do hear that and he's better?
Your funny. More money? How about Gene and Paul wanting all the money. Their playing hasnt gotten any better. Their doing the same show since 1979. Gene has the most pain in the ass ego ever. Drugs? Last 13 years you saw them. Do your homework, Petes drugs were in the 70's and 80's Youve done nothing but saw him in his late 50's.
stop trying to compare egos children every body has diffrent ways of playing and on the peter criis and eric carr rock eric singer rocks to and hes a home town drummer from here in ohio
Great drummer. Did you know he studied with Berklee teacher Casey Scheuerell (of Gino Vanelli, Chacka Khan, Jean Luc Ponty fame)? Obviously, some of that refined teaching rubbed of on Singer! Great video!
(Like yeah, Peter Criss' techniqe is not actualy great, but who cares? I dont care if he can play 250bps paradiddles and stuff... it's the style, groove, and soul it comes to. That's why I love Peter Criss. He plays just amazing!)
i have seen Eric live back in 98 and he was at that point some of the most impressive drummers i've seen so far... He was playing with Brian May and he was playing in contribution of the song, no solist but listening to the other musicians on the stage...
Comparing two very different drummers is a complete waste of time. Someone mentioned Tony Royster... What, is every drummer supposed to sound like him? Is it beyond the realm of possibility for Eric to further devop his chops? Both drummers have something to offer. Not everyone is impressed by blazing chops, and basing a musicians worth on that, is totally missing the point.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It's not a genre issue for me. I just don't think this guy is that talented. I certainly knew some Singer fans would take exception and that's fine. Been listening to music for longer than some of you guys have been alive so I'm far from mindless, just very critical and not easily impressed. Eric is a very good drummer by rock/metal standards.
sterlingre they are two completly different style drummers both are lightning fast one a rocker one a jazz/funk drummer, the big difference is eric plays dual base drum kits,as for ur boy tony he's good but a step down from these 2.
You're easily impressed by these metal drummers. Tony almost always has dual bass and when he doesn't he's using the secondary pedal. Tony is so much better than this guy it's an absurd comparison. Screw the fact they play to different music. Just watch both of them play and look at technique, degree of difficulty, and originality in their playing style. This guy is nothing more than just another decent metal drummer. There are so many who sound just like him. Tony makes him look real bad.
He's not terrible but when I hear this guys name being mentioned in the same breath as Tony Royster Jr I had to see for myself. Just as I thought he's a good drummer but a huge step down from the elite drummers like Tony and Dennis Chambers. I really don't care that guys are going to say he's rock or metal so you can't make that comparison. He's just not that good.
no... different styles, they are good "at what they do..." but all round... they only play jazz and funk.,. there are no step downs. i think instead of comparin these guys.., and drummers generally as compettitors, we should agree that they & we are all peers and can help each other to develop... eric is in my top 3 drummers to listen to & learn from... there are so many things all drummers can do as individuals that we can all learn each other... Lucas x
Your statements display just how little u know about drumming! Royster and Singer is like pizza and icecream! both tasty but totally different! you can prefer pizza but that doesn't mean icecream tastes like cowdung! it's just the fact that u prefer listening to the GENRE that royster is playing! nothing more to it! I too prefer Royster, he's one of my top 5 drummers but to compare(which is meaningless)the two is totally mindless...but hey! I guess thats just the way you are...
First of all Buddy Rich would kick all of mankind's ass on drums and second, if you'd noticed, I was referring to "rock drummers" and not just drummers in general.
Some things are subjective. How good Neil Peart is as a rock drummer isn't.
I own all the old Rush Cd's including 2112 and Neil is one of my favorites. Rush is progressive rock which is very different from metal. Neil is great and I'd rather listen to him than this guy any day of the week. He's creative, tight, and very proficient with the double bass. Speed is a small part of being a great drummer yet guys still watch these metal drummers and think they're so amazing. I've been listening to the best drummers for 30 years so I'm not that easily impressed.
Well, the thing that separates me from most people is the fact that I know the difference between my favorite drummers and the best drummers and am not afraid to differentiate because they are not necessarily one and the same all the time.
I'm not saying Singer isn't good, he's very talented and tight as hell, but what he's good at is nothing new.
And ya, I agree with what you said as well. I'm not easily impressed either.
Go watch 5 minutes of Virgil Donati. Now HE impresses me to no end!!!
I know Eric is not the best drummer in the world, but i really like his punch... although i'm a big fan of Neil Peart, Colaiuta and Dave Weckl, my favorite drummer will always be Eric, just because he was the reason i started to play drums
I completley agree, he is the reason I picked up a pair of sticks as well. He may not be the most technically talented, but his playing is just awsome. One of the greatest rock drummers of all time.
Dude you must realize that Peart goes all the way back to the 70's and for that era he was an absolute innovator who was light-years ahead of any other rock drummer on earth, so in that regard he is one of the best ever.
I'm sure there are better drummers now, but for all Neil Peart has done for rock drumming he is unmatched for his creativity, talent and longevity.
In order to hale any modern drummer we must always acknowledge who got them to where they are today. Peart was their foundation.
I wasn't being assaultive man. Just saying that this is all basic rudimentary stuff done really cleanly.
Ground breakers (in rock) are guys like Peart, Portnoy, Jerzombek, and the like who take drumming to a whole new level of intricacy.
In jazz we're talking Gadd, Donati, Weckl and guys like that from this era.
Drumming is much more than soloing obviously. The way these guys incorporate drums into the over all scheme of any given tune is what makes them more musically innovative than most.
I used to think eric singer was totally weak on drums, but after seeing this it makes me think otherwise, yeah its a little cheesy in parts but its overall not too bad.. no Derek Roddy but still...
Eric is from Euclid, Ohio. He let me sit in with his group a couple of times when he played with his father in the Johnny Singer Orchestra. He is a real down to earth dude. He has come so far since then
Tama is the rock/metal drummers choice and id never play any other drums, especially pearl with a seperate tom arm for each tom lol so that ur toms sit a mile apart lol
eric carr was always overated, yes he was good but he was not or will be considered one of the greatest. singer is an awesome drummer, and in my opinion better than carr.
eric carr very bad and you mean wurst i think omg eric was the god of the drums how can you talk over a gone to fast master drumer eric singer is a goed drumer i hav seem him 2 times or somting but eric stays the master on the drums rest in peace eric carr:-(
Close to Eric Carr?! Eric Carr was only halfway to what you're listening to right now at his best! And to even put Peter Criss behind a drum-kit in comparison to Singer's skills and technique is ridiculous...in my opinion... :)
Who cares if Peter was first? He was decent at his best and really horrible at his worst. I love KISS and the original line-up but Eric Singer is a much better drummer than Peter Criss. And really close to Eric Carr RIP.
AWESOME

and Singer is just a all around Rock drummer..
TWO great drummers.. TWO totaly different styles of playing..

Singer came from a jazz background too. His dad was a Big Band leader in Cleveland, and Eric played with them as a teenager.

Peter was the original; jazz background, singer, pianist, with KISS through the mid-1980s, alot of hard drumming/touring that he paid for later......I think both Erics are fantastic, just different; With Buddy Rich gone, Neil Peart is about the best.

Give to Eric a basic drum, he will play this at best. Add the double base drum and you have one of the top drummer in a world !
Lucasd69 2 years ago
Kiss was metal for the 70s. There was no such thing until kiss.
kissdrumr 2 years ago
Different music, different drummer.
steelerkiss 2 years ago
PLEASE!!!! Eric is an absolute MONSTER!
exmurderingboyfriend 2 years ago
Singer was Kiss' best drummer technically in Kiss but Peter was great too, just different time & styles. For the 70s Peter was the shit. Plus his background was more jazz opposed to Eric being rock . Peters no slouch he tore it up on reunion tour in his late 50s lets see if Erics still doin this when he reaches that age.
kissdrumr 2 years ago
I just saw KISS twice last month and Eric tore it up and he is 51 right now. He blows Peter out of the water every time.
nykissfaneternal 2 years ago
It has nothing to do with blowing someone out of the water. Two totally different drummers. It kills me on how KISS is regarded as metal and that now with metal drummers Peter is disrespected. KISS was never a metal band in the 70's. Christine 16, not metal for example. Why doesnt people give Bun E Carlos shit? Cheap Trick, not metal. The Stones, not metal. Anybody giving Watts shit? Ive been playing 31 years now. Theres a time to grow up and respect all drummers.
steelerkiss 2 years ago
KISS is a rockband. Never was, never will be metal...
Tonyr67 2 years ago
The drugs became more important than the fans.
nykissfaneternal 2 years ago
wow 4 times in the last 13 years. that does make you an expert at what you saw. Its real easy to hide behind those facts.
steelerkiss 2 years ago
No what makes me an expert is that i grew up from day one in the music biz around the biggest names in music EVER & became an electrical engineer & work for the biggest for over 20 yrs now. Also I am a musician myself. Petes my fav why are u discussing like i talked bad about him?
kissdrumr 2 years ago
Talked bad about him???? Jesus read your own shit. "No respect for fans, got worse each time". You saw him 4 times. Ive seen him and met him more. He hasnt got worse, hes gotten older. Hes also a different drummer. And slowing songs down is BS. Unless you compare it to Eric Carr back in the 80's there you are right they were playing DRC 100 miles an hour. But that doesnt make him a better drummer.
steelerkiss 2 years ago
I never said anything bad about any of the drummers are u sick? Do u comprehend well? I only replied to someones comment saying peter was old & not in the class of Singer & I said he was in a different way & he kicked ass on the renunion tour for being in his mid 50s I said when SInger gets that age he will slow up too, & he has.
kissdrumr 2 years ago
Im not sick. I just told you earlier that you are reading what Im saying to someone else. Its getting mixed up on here between kissdrumr and nykissfaneternal
steelerkiss 2 years ago
It seems that these replies are going to the wrong source. "expert" was geared toward nykissfaneternal.
steelerkiss 2 years ago
Ive said it all along. Gene and Paul have done more damage to KISS in the last 7 years than Ace and Peter ever did. Greed, money and ego can do just as much if not more damage than drugs and alcohol. If the drugs and alcohol were that bad, why were they the biggest band during that time? I lived it since '75. Youve been brainwashed by Gene and Paul's over dramatic and exagerated statements over the years.
steelerkiss 2 years ago
Why would you defend a guy who clearly didn't give a shit about the fans? I'm not brainwashed. I just go by what I see and hear. I've seen KISS after your precious original lineup was dismantled. Eric Carr and Eric Singer play better than Peter at the end of the day.
nykissfaneternal 2 years ago
Define better drummer. Are you a drummer? My precious lineup? I bet Ive seen Eric Carr and Singer more than you. My point here is Im sick and tired of PC disrespect. Bad drummer, bad person, drugs was everything, bad to the fans. All BS. PC, Watts, Starr, Bun E Carlos, etc., etc., All great drummers, but different drummers. Just because they dont fit your obviously like in drumming dont make them worse or better. Id say Gene and Paul dont give a shit about fans sometimes. Same show fat wallets.
steelerkiss 2 years ago
KISS just went to visit some wounded soldiers. They don't give a shit about their fans? Do you know how much charity they do that goes under the radar? I don't have to be a drummer to tell when somebody doesn't have it anymore. Peter can't play good anymore. It was time to move on.
nykissfaneternal 2 years ago
When it come down to a 40% profit margin or 28% and it had to do with what the fans want, what do you think is going to happen. You just said on here that there aint nothing wrong with being successful and making more money, but with PC or Frehley its a different standard. He did his contract from 06 to 01 and wanted more money new contract. Sounds like the American way. Hes a founding member, and responsible for the 70's just as GandP. Tell that to a NFL player in his last yrs see what happens.
steelerkiss 2 years ago
If Peter didn't like the terms of his contract he could have said fuck you and walked away but face it he was at rock bottom going nowhere. He was broke. His skills were declining so why would Paul and Gene give him more money? He bitched every night on the tour. He was back to his primadonna ways. Paul and Gene worked very hard to keep KISS going after Ace and Peter. It was the right thing to do. The point is Ace and Peter should have been more than satisfied with whatever they were paid.
nykissfaneternal 2 years ago
If it was the other way GorP would be primadonna too. You seem to forget that GandP aint no better at their craft than Ace and Pete. Gene worked hard in the 80's are you kidding me. It was the birth period for what he does today. Paul did because he loved it because now he was at the spotlight without makeup. And dont get your first statement, that is what Pete did in 04. If anybody has been halfass the last 20 years it has been Gene. KISS is nothing but a plateau he needs for his other stuff.
steelerkiss 2 years ago
BS you said on here that he was never good. What G and P do for charity is great. You dont think the original KISS didnt do that? Sorry there was no war back then and the military wasnt like you said under the radar. But they visited sick children and gave to charities just the same. But it is amazing how it all goes on Family Jewels including what they do on this tour. Gene even profits from that. Again brainwashed.
steelerkiss 2 years ago
I meant the charity that KISS does goes under the radar not the military. Stop with the brainwashing shit. I'm a fan who calls it the way I see it. I embrace all eras of KISS. I'm not an original lineup purist like you. And yes even in the 70's Peter was ok. He is a jazz influenced drummer. Eric Carr was into Zep and Sabbath and made KISS a heavier band which is what they needed to do to continue. You give Gene for shit for making money. He came here with nothing and made something for himself.
nykissfaneternal 2 years ago
Wow amazing how your steering the car a little different with PC now. A lot different from yesterday "Lets face it Peter was never a great drummer to begin with" I love the original lineup, I lived it. But purist? I never said nothing about Kulick, Carr, Vincent, or Singer. I said Just stop the scabbing they do today, and stop the PC bashing. Gene? money and power is as damaging as anything else. Again different standard with G and P. They do no wrong and cant be fired for it.
steelerkiss 2 years ago
I didn't change anything. His skills were tolerable in the 70's. Paul and Gene own KISS. Of course they can't be fired. You call it scabbing. I call it KISS. Peter was never happy. He wanted to leave in the 70's. The solo albums was a way to make him happy. He always saw himself as the next Sinatra. Sinatra isn't KISS. Paul and Gene are entitled to everything they have. They gave a shit about the fans. Peter didn't. You never answered my ? Why defend a guy who didn't care about the fans?
nykissfaneternal 2 years ago
I dont know how change is not involved, lets see tolerable, never good. Read your shit. Pete had no more Sinatra than Paul did. I answered your question 10,000 times. I dont agree with your not caring for fans, do you read? You havent answered if you play drums? But I know you have your own ear for them. Thank God a lot dont or wed have nothing but triplets, quads, and double bass in all music.
steelerkiss 2 years ago
Are you serious? You don't think Peter stopped caring in 78 79? No I don't play the drums but I know what I like. And Peter's drumming sounded like shit in the 90's. You being a drummer doesn't make the supreme authority on it. My fav drummers Eric Carr, John Bonham, Neil Peart, and Eric Singer. To me double bass drumming shows progression. it gives songs a kick in the Ass. This argument is pointless. Its 2009. Peter is done as a drummer. You must accept it. Singer is better.
nykissfaneternal 2 years ago
I dont must nothing. Double bass shows progression, what a BS statement. What do you do, not play but read all about it and then make your own BS up? I guess with your assesment John Bonham had more progression than Buddy Rich. LMFAO.
steelerkiss 2 years ago
Ask other drummers if they think double bass shows progression. You can't be serious when you say Buddy Rich is better than Jon Bonham. You're a drummer and you're not in awe of Bonham? You take Rich and Gene Krupa and Watts and Liberty Devito, the guys playing the same groove for 30 years. I'll take Eric Carr, Eric Singer, John Bonham, Mike Portnoy, Tommy Lee, Neil Peart, Lars Ulrich, and Alex Van Halen. When you can play double bass you can laugh.
nykissfaneternal 2 years ago
Lets put it straight to you, someone that listens to drums, ask Neil Peart himself who is better, Buddy Rich or himself. Dude triplets and quads are great but if you take one drum and one drum only, Rich would destroy Peart and Bonham. Tommy Lee, thats a good one. One who does nothing but quads during a drum solo. Same groove, thats funny too. You are the one that needs to ask other drummers, this one cant get it through your thick skull with drumming and with dissing PC.
steelerkiss 2 years ago
You don't.
nykissfaneternal 2 years ago
I love how you go off from the statements you have put on here from the beginning. Never said I didnt like double bass. YOU have stated that it is better drumming and better drummer. Wrong. A long time ago I would say bring any drummer on. Im just as good and I'll put Tommy Lee to shame. Im beyond that. I respect all drummers. I dissed Lee cause you dissed PC. Every night in ICE, you see it once and its all night. LOL. U Kill Me.
steelerkiss 2 years ago 2

Nobody had heard anything like that.

bullshit dude you cant compair two drummers from two very diffirent styles. both are great drummers

We all have personal favs but know it dosent make them the"BEST.
herbiedrumr369 1 year ago
The phrase "Best Drummer " is very stupid to me. every style will obviously have its best drummers but you cant compare jazz with metal or any style for that matter. Every style is Unique. I also think most of the worlds best musicians are undiscovered and unknown

The best KISS shows I ever saw were Hot in the Shade, Revenge, Rock the Nation, and Alive 35.
nykissfaneternal 2 years ago
Why do you call it scabbing? You know Peter sold his rights to the makeup back to Paul and Gene because he was broke. I'm sick of hearing Peter bitch about Eric in the makeup. What are Paul and Gene doing wrong? They're keeping the band going, still touring making many fans happy. Alive 35 is the biggest tour of all time. Translation? More people are coming out for Tommy and Eric than Ace and Peter. The fans are getting their money's worth.
nykissfaneternal 2 years ago
Alive 35 biggest tour of all time. Again brainwashed from a G and P statement. Not in this country jack. If you add places that get a concert every blue moon and places they havent been in 10 to 20 years along with mediocre sell here, I guess Gene can say such BS. They cant top the reunion tour accept that fact. Did u even go to the reunion tour? Just curious.
steelerkiss 2 years ago
check the stats about the tour. the numbers don't lie.I did go to the reunion but after seeing eric carr and eric singer tear it up,it was a step backward. Have you seen KISS with tommy and eric? I've seen both so I can say who I think plays better. Don't be bitter that KISS is doing just fine without the 2 ingrates.
nykissfaneternal 2 years ago
numbers dont lie, did I tell you where these numbers come from? Man G and P can easily manipulate you. Just fine? Again what Gand P want you to know. Just like they did in the 80's. Do you know that around the Crazy Nights Tour GandP and Marks/Glickman mgmt were just about bankrupt? Facts show up later on with GandP, this era will too. Infact, numbers you say? Look at Pollstar with this tour in the U.S. Its not bad, but it aint great. Alive II, Reunion, and Farewell tours were great. Ive looked.
steelerkiss 2 years ago
let me define just fine. Pretty convenient.
nykissfaneternal 2 years ago
So u been playing clubs since u were like 10? LMAO!!!! Im not brainwashed I watched every bit of Kiss throught the yrs & think all the members are equally as great. But shit happens & u gotta move on with others. Why should Paul & Gene sacrifice their dreams for 2 people that had different goals & visions? They had a right to go on, weather for money or just the job. Its not a crime to wanna be successful.
kissdrumr 2 years ago
BS. Im 42. And I actually started playin clubs when I was 15.
steelerkiss 2 years ago
You forget KISS did just fine without Ace and Peter. They got better musicians, made new music, and toured the world making fans happy. "Cause it aint KISS." says who? you? Whatever. KISS rocks with Tommy and Eric. You don't like it fine but don't give the fans who do shit. Peter had a lot of balls to ask for more money. You get a second chance and start the same bullshit. Writing 5 songs in 30 years is not the work of a major player. Peter stopped caring. Remember that
nykissfaneternal 2 years ago
First off 30 years 5 songs bold statement without finding out the facts. Singer 9 years off and on with KISS no songs written and one song finally sung on new album. PC, not been in KISS 30 years, but if you want to say 30 years count 5 solo albums plus KISS. You are the one on here bashing PC. Me giving fans shit. How bout you giving KISS fans shit who like PC. If u dont like PC, which u dont. How bout u shuttin it. Your comments were on here first.
steelerkiss 2 years ago
Paul and Gene financed the reunion tour on their own money. Of course they are going to get a bigger cut. KISS is Paul and Gene's baby.Any band going 30+ years is going to have different members. Nothing wrong with that at all. Better drummer = plays harder faster and double bass. 3 things Peter doesn't do and they did slow the songs down to accomodate Peter. If you are this master drummer you claim to be you should be able to hear the difference. Peter's best days are behind him.
nykissfaneternal 2 years ago
Financed the money themselves? Your full of crap. They had promoters all over the place. That was there problem in the early 80's especially on the Creatures tour having no promoters. You didnt answer whether you play drum yourself. Harder, faster and double bass, wow that makes a lot of bad drummers out there in the world according to your ear. And again show me a tune that is slowed down, audio or video. And show me a tune where Singer plays it note for note. I do hear that and he's better?

Comparing two very different drummers is a complete waste of time. Someone mentioned Tony Royster... What, is every drummer supposed to sound like him? Is it beyond the realm of possibility for Eric to further devop his chops? Both drummers have something to offer. Not everyone is impressed by blazing chops, and basing a musicians worth on that, is totally missing the point.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
It's not a genre issue for me.

MOKAHUNA 3 years ago
You're easily impressed by these metal drummers. Tony almost always has dual bass and when he doesn't he's using the secondary pedal. Tony is so much better than this guy it's an absurd comparison. Screw the fact they play to different music. Just watch both of them play and look at technique, degree of difficulty, and originality in their playing style. This guy is nothing more than just another decent metal drummer. There are so many who sound just like him. Tony makes him look real bad.
SterlingRe 3 years ago
He's not terrible but when I hear this guys name being mentioned in the same breath as Tony Royster Jr I had to see for myself. Just as I thought he's a good drummer but a huge step down from the elite drummers like Tony and Dennis Chambers. I really don't care that guys are going to say he's rock or metal so you can't make that comparison. He's just not that good.
SterlingRe 3 years ago
no... different styles, they are good "at what they do..." but all round... they only play jazz and funk.,. there are no step downs. i think instead of comparin these guys.., and drummers generally as compettitors, we should agree that they & we are all peers and can help each other to develop... eric is in my top 3 drummers to listen to & learn from... there are so many things all drummers can do as individuals that we can all learn each other... Lucas x
666Lucas666 3 years ago
Your statements display just how little u know about drumming! Royster and Singer is like pizza and icecream! both tasty but totally different! you can prefer pizza but that doesn't mean icecream tastes like cowdung! it's just the fact that u prefer listening to the GENRE that royster is playing! nothing more to it! I too prefer Royster, he's one of my top 5 drummers but to compare(which is meaningless)the two is totally mindless...but hey! I guess thats just the way you are...
Sabiano 3 years ago 3
You're kidding with that comparison right? lol
First of all Buddy Rich would kick all of mankind's ass on drums and second, if you'd noticed, I was referring to "rock drummers" and not just drummers in general.
Some things are subjective. How good Neil Peart is as a rock drummer isn't.
Peace out....
Symmetry44 3 years ago
Peart is that good brother sorry. Go listen to 2112 or Hemispheres in their entirety.
Symmetry44 3 years ago
I own all the old Rush Cd's including 2112 and Neil is one of my favorites. Rush is progressive rock which is very different from metal. Neil is great and I'd rather listen to him than this guy any day of the week. He's creative, tight, and very proficient with the double bass. Speed is a small part of being a great drummer yet guys still watch these metal drummers and think they're so amazing. I've been listening to the best drummers for 30 years so I'm not that easily impressed.
SterlingRe 3 years ago
Well, the thing that separates me from most people is the fact that I know the difference between my favorite drummers and the best drummers and am not afraid to differentiate because they are not necessarily one and the same all the time.
I'm not saying Singer isn't good, he's very talented and tight as hell, but what he's good at is nothing new.
And ya, I agree with what you said as well. I'm not easily impressed either.
Go watch 5 minutes of Virgil Donati. Now HE impresses me to no end!!!
Symmetry44 3 years ago
I know Eric is not the best drummer in the world, but i really like his punch... although i'm a big fan of Neil Peart, Colaiuta and Dave Weckl, my favorite drummer will always be Eric, just because he was the reason i started to play drums

I completley agree, he is the reason I picked up a pair of sticks as well. He may not be the most technically talented, but his playing is just awsome. One of the greatest rock drummers of all time.
alicecoop9009 3 years ago
Dude you must realize that Peart goes all the way back to the 70's and for that era he was an absolute innovator who was light-years ahead of any other rock drummer on earth, so in that regard he is one of the best ever.
I'm sure there are better drummers now, but for all Neil Peart has done for rock drumming he is unmatched for his creativity, talent and longevity.
In order to hale any modern drummer we must always acknowledge who got them to where they are today. Peart was their foundation.

Nothing too technically mind boggling or ground breaking, but he is really sound and smooth at what he does.
Drummers like him really compliment bands. I love his sound and style.
Symmetry44 3 years ago
well then who does technically ground breaking
material?
kissrock105 3 years ago

He must have the strongest wrists!
deimos2k 4 years ago
It's not only in the wrists, but finger control also. Watch a Buddy Rich vid and you will see that his wristrs sometimes hardly move.

Pearl, Paite, Zildjian... That's it!
Wow, Eric Singer is good! One of my favorites next to Mikkey Dee (Motörhead), Eric Carr (R.I.P, KISS) and
Ian Paice (Deep Purple). I think this is my favorite drum solo...
HardRockRazamanaz 4 years ago 5
awesome taste in drummers. i play pearl, zildjian and paiste too!

does he have here his signature snare?
Ajaxxx15 4 years ago
no
i think he's only had his sig snare for about four years
back then he used to use a 14x6.5 inch (same sizes as his sig snare) 8 ply maple shell Pearl masters snare

zweeden 4 years ago
Close to Eric Carr?! Eric Carr was only halfway to what you're listening to right now at his best! And to even put Peter Criss behind a drum-kit in comparison to Singer's skills and technique is ridiculous...in my opinion... :)
evuuhl 4 years ago
anyone that watches this cannot even say with a clear fucking mind that eric singer isn't a fucking drumming god
mightytechnodeity 4 years ago
Who cares if Peter was first? He was decent at his best and really horrible at his worst. I love KISS and the original line-up but Eric Singer is a much better drummer than Peter Criss. And really close to Eric Carr RIP.
