@MrGrocer1 My Dad introduced me to elbow a few years ago and I now have all of their albums. Every song is unique and pure heaven; they all have a different feel which is great for when your feeling happy, sad or just confused because there's a song for every mood! I recommend all of their albums, its such a shame they weren't all as successful as The Seldom Seen Kid.
omg I didnt think it was true you could be moved to tears like the top comments...but I have shed my fair amount of tears for this! Im also in the middle of a wake&Bake so its like 1000x more intense
Why on earth does reality tv really matter? Why does success constitute to a great tune? Why can't people just float through this magnificent medley of irrepressible sad touch after the next without any real thought for anything but it? Come on, this is art!!!!
Nothing but respect for Elbow, this is one of my favourite songs of all time, it's stunningly beautiful. How is it that these guys are relatively unheard of, yet the likes of these reality show contestants are ruling the charts. They are amazing, I wish them all the best and wanna thank them for making this song and soo many other beautiful pieces of music. From their biggest welsh fan 8)
My all-time favourite Elbow track from a - let's face it - pretty damn impressive back catalogue. They've written countless amazing songs; this just happens to be utterly perfect.
I just got a t-shirt that looks as close to that picture as i could find. I get lost in a dream when I look in it and I always forget the song because it's just ambient in a way.
One of my top 5 songs ever, absolutely beautiful. Great band, great lyricist, finally getting the recognition they deserve. The funny thing is, their earlier albums (especially this one) are probably better than the ones that have brought them fame and (hopefully) fortune.
Funny thing is that its only 2 chords - F & G - but its a massive killer on the guitarist as the tempo kicks along - I love this song - I love Elbow & the drummer - fkn brill. Roll on March!
Just an unbelievable tune. Absolutely amazing, think of your family when you hear this song and they will be with you. My dad is every time I hear it.
Evocative. If there is one word that sums up Elbow it is that. //this is my favourite Elbow song. The simple description of memories that are his shouldn't remind me of all of mine so easily yet this song just makes me think of happy times. It's stupendously brilliant. Lyrical genius.
And my sister buzzes through the room leaving perfume in the air, And thats what triggered this. I come back here from time to time... Everything about this SCREAMS warmth.. Elbow be my mistress <3
@buzzboy172 thats awesome, it really is that kind of song. Of all the Elbow songs and albums this song will remain my most favorite. Beautiful music from beautiful souls.
probably still their best album in my opinion this one, although they're all incredibly good. There's something about listening to someone sing with total honesty from the heart that makes you just hang on every word, its something you don't get very often. The lyrics have such beautiful imagery in aswell, they're up there with the best songwriters ever in my opinion
@snabadabadingdong Me too. Especially the second verse. He makes me miss my Grandad keenly... "And he talks of people ten years gone like i've known them all my life, like scattered black and whites"
Best song of off this album, and in my top 5 favs of their stuff. Unfortunately I only have too out of 3 albums - Ill need to chase down a copy of their second one :-) That I look forward to

This song is magnificently nostalgic. Such moving lyrics. I think it's written about memories of grandparents:
Crosswords through the bathroom door,
A high-back chair. He sits and stares a thousand yards and whistles marching band,
He reaches out and I take a massive hand,
And he talks of people ten years gone like I've known them all my life, like scattered black 'n' whites
How their first album "Asleep in the Back" didnt get widespread recognition for this, I'll never know.
