Peak oil already will destroy 5 billion of the world's population by simple mathematics and the law of thermodynamics. All the other talk of "the economy" is moot. The economy=energy. Not money, gold, nor products, etc. Without sufficient hydrocarbon energy our planet must go back to the amount of sunlight that humans can capture per year to support our species. What is really developed that can realistically do that at this time?
In 1920 Dr. Bergius had discovered ways to make large quantities of Hydrogen, and to force it under great pressure, at high temperatures and in the presence of specific catalysts, into liquid coal products. The final steps into refined gasoline came later. Oil from Coal has been possible since 1920. There is no peak oil, is a Cartel scam like everything else. Check out I.G. Farben and Standard oil for more of this history lesson.
How happy are the power companies or their employees to know that they will be out of a job? Will any of this free energy (wind) reduce skyrocketing home energy costs? If it lowers our dependency on oil, will heating oil and gas prices go down? Are car makers going to be able to mass produce bi-fueled cars without charging preposterous prices even when they've known for decades that there were other fuel alternatives? All I have are questions...
Psh, whose leaders dont know about this? Cheney, Bush & Rice have known forever! Rice was on Chevron's Board of Directors. Big Oil's known the peak was coming since the 70s. They arent letting on cause the stock market & economy are built on consumer confidence which will erode once peeps know. AKA big recession. Theyre waiting & trying to delay the recession so it will occur under Obama so they can blame him for "bad economic policy" or under McCain so they can act dumb...their bets are hedged.
it is bizarre, but I am actually looking forward to all the mess that we are about to see. It is surprising that our leaders are seemingly clueless (or maybe they just have no idea at all what to do?): maybe this will give a future generation the chance to build a society build on other principles than greed and consumerism. Maybe people will realise that they cannot blindly follow the blind but that they must start to think for themselves for mere survival reasons!? Maybe a new chance after all
Very nice. But does the US have that much natural gas? Also its quite a coincidence that the largest natural gas field in the world is in Iran! I smell an invasion......
Last time I checked we were already approaching natural gas shortages in North America. I think it is a bit misleading of him to say we can switch over to a resource that is also scarce and harder to transport than oil (thus more expensive to import). I do appreciate his views but it seems like wishful thinking at this point. The only solution is to stop being gluttonous consumers but this would kill the growth based economy, IMHO this is why politicians aren't talking about this.

Pickens is a good old boy but the NWO got to him on this one. Has he never heard of abiotic oil?

Mr. T. Boone Pickens is the bastard who financed the Swiftboating of John Kerry to give us 4 more years of Bush. I hope he gets what is coming to him.
Other than that though, he is quite right about Peak Oil.

It is real and it is now. The effects will gradually become more intense. Peak oil.

Refreshingly straight talk, after all the political rhetoric and spin and talk of change without saying what you're going to change bs.
