  • @lockergnome I got namebench and it told me the dns I have (open dns) is the fastest so am I good to go then ???

  • When i change to google dns will it transfer over to all of the other computers & gaming consoles on my network?

  • namebench FTW!

    Thank u chris!

  • please help meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • @Samantha21280000 I don't think anyone can help humanity.

  • @Prestinoiam there are plenty of people that already do help humanity they're called LIBERTARIANS. Ron Paul ( although he using the republican party to try to run for president again), Judge Andrew Napolitano " Freedom Watch" enough said there. Alex Jones another great media source that has revealed the TRUE bs nature behind closed cameras about what REALLy goes on in late July northern California. ( ah..i dont worship any animal. humans are MEANT to be the superior to animals)

  • If i use google dns servers i feel like im being watch

  • Youtube buffer was bad and started using google dns and it looks like faster now.

  • I have the slowest DSL offered and it has been fine for what I use the web for, but lately it has slowed to a crawl and I feel like I'm on dial-up again. Ran this tool and now I'm zipping through web pages and youtube videos that use to stop and play to buffer constantly is no longer an issue. Thank you so much!!

  • Using the default DNS servers for your ISP may not be the fastest way to load web pages on your computer. There are a number of alternative services that make loading web pages faster. By changing the DNS servers used by your computer's Internet connection, you can dramatically improve your online browsing experience. Google Public DNS is one option for DNS servers.

  • If everyone uses the Google DNS Servers, it will run slower because everybody uses it. Not?

  • @TheMISTERAMD yes...it would seem so.

  • did anyone have troubles with their apple tv?

  • When you use NameBench where does it save the results on your PC at???...

  • @TheDigihax It installed mine in my user folder at User/AppData/Local/Temp. AppData is a hidden folder so you have to enable the view of hidden folders. In the explorer window it should be something like Tools>Folder options... Then hit the View tab. Under "Hidden files and folders" click the "Show hidden files, folders and drives radio button.

  • @chuky172 Oh ok, thnx man, i thought this was already set but i must've forgot bc i had to reinstall my os lol...

  • How do you change your dns?

  • @thetechgeneration Watching this video helped me out, Heres an example on Windows 7: /watch?v=WaPiPjNNO8g

  • Chris you're finally back to the stuff you're good at

  • I use ultra DNS , from that NameBench program. It seems a little faster too so thnx for the nice tip chris...

  • namebench benches against DNS's in the US mostly, so here in the Netherlands, it said it was already as fast as it could get Lol.

  • What, no tip to avoid services that do NXDOMAIN hijacking? There are few things more annoying then that.

  • Skynet 67% done.

  • Thanks. I have a lot to learn :)

  • Your current primary DNS server is

    Fastest

  • Running your own DNS server on a Linux box is the fastest plus no ads from OpenDNS and more control.

  • OpenDNS has always been fast & reliable for me.

  • its so true even if u have something like verizon fios ur dns can slow it down i use google when at home the dns servers for google are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

  • I keep switching between OpenDNS and Google DNS depending on how the mood strikes me.

  • I miss this Chris...

  • Google Public DNS is

    193.0%

    Faster

than your current primary DNS server

  • Turns out my Current ISP's DNS, and Open dns were fastest in that order for me... and thats how I had it setup in my router...

Confusing thing is namebench reports my primary DNS as being my local router 192.168.0.1, and not my ISP's DNS, i'm assuming namebench cant see through that setting on my router.

Google's DNS at my house was twice as slow as Open DNS.

Still my fastest DNS (My ISP's) (AT&T Uverse) Seems slow.... An average of 57ms

Google was in the 80 ms range here. Open DNS 59ms

  • @doubleatheman That's because your router is your DNS server. It's a very simple one that by default forwards to your ISP's DNS server. But just about every router provides a way to change that. And it's better to change the DNS settings in the router so that you won't have to change the settings on each individual computer on your network.

  • @pcgod8 I know I can change it in my router, as I have I have Open DNS as my second DNS.

Since I have uverse my "Modem" is a router, so my Netgear sees that as its DNS, but my main pc sees my Netgear as my DNS. Its just weird, but that is the fastest setup according to the program chris is talking about here.

  • @doubleatheman So your netgear router forwards to your ISP's modem / router which forwards to the ISP's DNS servers (in a default configuration anyway). So changing either the netgear's DNS settings or the ISP's modem / router settings would work.

  • How do you use namebench to make your youtube videos buff faster though?...

  • Google Public DNS is

    118.1%

    Faster

than your current primary DNS server

  • It's 18.4% faster for me, but it seems i can't change it bc I'm on someone elses router, Is there a way to get it to where i can change my primary dns while still using someone elses router...

  • @TheDigihax you can change the DNS you're computer uses, or even just the one you're browser uses. Heres an example on Windows 7: /watch?v=WaPiPjNNO8g

  • @georgevanburgh Hey thank you man, that really helped me out, i ran the namebench program again and it said it would 52.4% faster and from the link you gave me i realized i was doing it wrong the first time, so thnx man that was a big help lol.

  • @TheDigihax No problemo =D

  • grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm (after running it first time run the lister to compile YOUR top 50 dns

    namebench

    run both

take top 2 of both list!

  • it took 60 MS for google to even respond while the server im using now took only 20

  • turns out google DNS was the slowest for me

  • Wow, an actual useful tech related advice...

  • @Viniter24

I guess you don't watch much of his videos.

  • @Viniter24 - That was awfully rude of you to say. You'd find that, with 3,000+ videos in this channel, most is related to "tech advice." Saying otherwise is just illustrating your lack of... well, candor and appreciation for people who do things for you... for free. Shame on you.

  • @lockergnome Chris... you kick ass.... forget about these losers who haven't ever learnt to appreciate the finer things in life.... :)

By the way, we had a little presentation in class and I was quite pleasantly surprised to see that our teacher pulled up one of your videos about how to run a business... You earn my maximum respect. Keep up the great work my friend.... :) God bless you...

  • @lockergnome I find a majority of your videos useful there is only about 1 out of all of them, but it is semi useful.

  • @lockergnome

98% of your video are useless, and Viniter24 IS RIGHT.

  • @hitachi088 yeah and you're incorrect opinion isn't useless? you didn't specify WHY or with any FACTS about why they are useless...PISS OFF troll. you're about a useful as a tick on a dog

  • @chronofusion WTF am i reading? a 12years old kid youtubers with no video complaining? scam off you little scum. if you have nothing more to do with your life : SUICIDE is your best option.

  • @hitachi088 ah.you're the that started acting like a child, kid. my 30 years olf experience already proved your just another little teenie bopper troll with nothing left to do. The suicide comment JUST FURTHER proves my point. Emo child. except if you think of me as an enemy ..YOU'RE SUPPOSED to say something that makes you sound smarter kid. lol. the end, it's over, ya lost. hasta nunca, no comen da asai, do not pass go or collect any money, game over, class dismissed. ya need summer school

  • Burrned

  • @lockergnome actually most of his videos are just stupid ranting about old news. It's rare to find anything useful from his vids. The guy had a point.

  • I use Google's DNS. I don't have problems with it. IMHO.

  • Comment removed

  • For me OpenDNS was the fastest :)

  • whats dns?

  • Looks like a U.S. centric tool.

  • Thank you Chris! I used Namebench and found a DNS thats more than 60% faster.

  • does it effect online videogaming?

  • @Dorrektor125 DNS has nothing to do with online gaming.

  • wow chris i like that your making alot of videos again!!

  • hmm if i was going to do this i would need a tecyy guy

  • huge pipe in my home......hell yeah

  • just did this said my DNS was the fastest of them all 64.63ms idk if that is true or not

  • ive been using this program for the last few months already! it definitely works wonders. shows you which DNS is the fastest for the area for sure. i switched from the default DNS to sbcglobal DNS and openDNS. open sbc being the primary and open being secondary. when i switched, my internet was significantly faster. :)

  • i think i try google dns or openDNS. i know openDNS did wonder for me. but if you think google dns is faster. i may try it.

  • i got a huge pipe in my house, for the toilet

  • Cool... i'll try it:):) thxx

  • so he is using chromIUM but than switches to googles dns?

  • 69.69.69.69

    Best DNS for porn surfing.

  • @jgq85 lololololololol

  • I use OpenDNS right now

  • You always have the same shirt. Why am I even watching this? Nerd

  • I never done this before and pretty much din't even know what DNS stood for despite being a self proclaimed tech geek. but now using google's DNS every page I go to is loading up noticeably faster and youtube videos are faster.

    thank you Chris.

  • for me, my ISP DNS are faster than Google DNS and OpenDNS (by ~200ms in most case)

and i run a caching DNS server locally

  • Dont ever buy orange broadband.

  • i tried google's and my internet is SPEEDING!! THX CHRIS!!

  • Depends on where you live.....you wont see a vast improvement overall, but i use openDNS

  • great vid chris, thanks, my internet has gotten slow lately

  • I cannot find precompiled Linux binaries of Name Bench! I tried using the Windows version using WINE, but I cannot get to run. .DEB.

  • @HTATigersBasketball You need to install it first

    "sudo dpkg -i /path/to/package.deb"

  • @Djhg2000 Yes sorry, I figured it out. Thanks! I found out that there's servers 60% faster than my old ones, which were Googles!!!!!!, and now my internet is very fast. It really made a difference!!!

  • @HTATigersBasketball Try searching Namebench, as in one word and not two.

  • My Ipod is faster now on youtube using open DNS

  • @JSD2K8 i doubt that DNS would matter here.. since DNS is only used to translate youtube.com into corresponding IP address, so it only affect the beginning of transaction but not transfer rate after. and that DNS look up cost only like 30 to a few hundreds MILLI-SECONDS, plus your OS or browser probably has DNS cache so you only have to do DNS lookup ONCE for each domain (youtube.com)

  • My own DNS servers are fastest.

  • Question to Chris:

You have all of this hardware, why not record your videos in HD?

  • @PspHacker4lyfe Personally as a guy with a shitty computer (0.99GB/S) I prefer low quality for faster viewing.

  • did steve jobs die yet?

  • I read comments while my add is on

  • pause at 0:52

  • turned out my defult dns was the fastest :) atleast i now know.

  • PLEASE stop the emails about new videos you have posted. i now have to utilize the spam filter on my email now. i have been very careful where i give my email and it seems tainted with all the youtube emails about lockergnome videos. i don't need a reminder, youtube tells me when you have a new one up!

  • @hubeda you can change that in account settings

  • wow thanks chris.

  • Hey I tried it and I get 11% faster on Verizon NY! Goodbye Google DNS

  • opendns

  • chris when are u ever going to stop with the music on top of your video chris never

  • If you want fast dns, set up a low spec debian box, install bind9 as a resolver, and enjoy local lookups to the root servers

  • OpenDNS is the fastest namebench says

  • 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4 Friend don't let friend download binary that are already in the repo! sudo apt-get install namebench

  • Googles DNS hands down

  • idk

  • Every time i go to ur video my computer freezes from your awesomeness

  • 13th?

  • For/from my location, the best is honestly Google's DNS.

  • 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4

  • Chris, Please do a overhaul of all your websites. They all suck miserably. Load times suck, designs suck. They just really are not websites I want to be on. Please change them!

  • @PCtechtips101 If you don't like them, don't visit them. He doesn't work for you so what makes you think he gives a fuck what you have to say?

  • Actually everyone watching his videos are who he works for so I beg to differ.

  • @PCtechtips101 Dude there are plenty of tech sites to choose from and i mean PLENTY, check twit.tv theyre live now

  • @zikalify of course there are. Twit.tv is the best. And Leo is a great old friend. Too bad they dont have a bigger youtube following. Better that way though, too many idiots on youtube..
