I agree. It's a shame they don't mix them more. The sound of the two types sounds really cool, I think. Like an extension of the english horn. Especially in the high register, the french bassoon is king. A friend of mine once said when the french bassoon plays a solo, it's as if a naked lady is standing up in the middle of the orchestra.
Many thanks. I couldn't agree more about the two-system bassoons. If bassoonists of the French bassoon were to perform with an orchestra in front of an audience of open-minded people, I know we would win. The problem is CONDUCTORS. Most of them don't seem to want this instrument to get anywhere near their orchestras. Pourquoi?
I think there is a place for both in the orchestra. The orchestra should have, 2 heckel system bassoons, 2 buffet system bassoons, 1 heckel system contra, and 1 buffet system contra.
I think that both have a place in classical music depending on the music being played, though I think if one bassoonist plays a Buffet, the other should as well. I think there could be conflict from two different systems of bassoon used at the same time. That said, I want to buy and learn how to play a Buffet Crampon bassoon.
Good lord! I should have known I'd find you here. It's Toby. When did you play this cute little piece? Played amazingly, by the way. he wrote a couple of operas, too, one called The Secret of Suzanna. Very saucy and cute one act. We should catch up soon.
This is great, do you have anything else? there is very little on you tube with french system. Excellent job, more, more.
