Very funny... Try to sing what he sings and play bass like he does in the same time. His lyrics always follows an odd rythmic line and play bass on it must be really difficult...

And the music of Sting is sophisticated, no matter whether it looks hard or not... It's incredibly easy to listen to, while it's incredibly rich. He's not overrated, he just plays exactly what he must play, nothing less, nothing more.

What I'm trying to tell you is that bass playing is clearly not the point with Sting. He focuses on the arrangement, the quality of the melody. The virtuosity? He doesn't care.

look... sting is one of my favorite songwriters. but the fact still stands that 90 percent of the time, stings bass lines are bland and boring. if he finds it too hard to sing and play at the same time he should leave the bass playing to someone else, because the music suffers as a result of his dumbed down approach to the bass guitar. and i dont understand why anyone would say that about ged, he has mastered the instrument

@jimmyjohnsman1 Alot of players look at Stings playing as appropriate. He's known for his minimalist playing. To Sting its not the notes you play its the notes you don't. Alot of his songs really hinge on the bass line and considering how little he plays he certainly knows the right notes to pick. Even the most technical players need to exercise restraint.

Some times the beauty of the bass line can be found in the subtleties, listen to what he's playing during the verses, its really groovy but also subtle, not everyone has to be Jaco or Victor Wooten, Sting is a very musical player, however I've seen him play some really funky stuff and flashy stuff too, check out in his playing Love Is Stronger Than Justice and also in some of his work with The Police

I bought the american laser disc release back in 1993 then I bought the japanese release on laserdisc back in 2004, I sold them both after I could back them both laserdiscs onto DVD-R a couple of years ago, no missing audio or video loss, I love to hear this release over and over again!!!

What you're seeing is a live performance, however a number of the songs featured on this tape had their album versions dubbed over the video. In some cases (eg. Heavy Cloud No Rain) the originals were dubbed in their entirety, in some the audio is the entire performance you are seeing on-screen (eg. Fields of Gold) and in others, such as this one, the audio is a mixture of both the original and the on-screen performance.

I recorded this from the TV about ten years ago - never saw it on DVD. It's a marvellous show that takes place at Sting's house in the country. He starts early in the morning with this piece and play all day. The breaks with his kids are touching.

From everything I've seen this recording is from the actual sessions, including one that ended up as the radio edit. These guys played through the night. Yes, Sting is a little dictatorial with his "hired help", but knows what he wants and is plying with the best musicians in the world. I would have to watch my ego too, if I was this good and had a studio in my own Jacobian castle.

I "ripped" this from VHS, and still cannot find Ten Summoner's Tails on DVD. This was filmed in Sting's Jacobian castle and is interesting to see the guys wander through the kitchen, smoking, getting something to eat, etc.
