the cowboys defense wont be so good this year, we lost ellis, roy williams, and anthony henry.. ellis was good for sacks and tackles...henry is good at interceptin and williams is a hard hitter and has made it to the probowl many times.. we kno that D-ware will have a good season and maybe go for breakin the record for most sacks in a season.
damn y didnt they at least trade greg and TO they could've got something valuable out of that i know there older and probably past their prime but they still produce and they're smart about the game
i couldnt be happier to see greg ellis anthony henry and roy williams gone if you remember they all missed a tackle on armani toomer in that heartbreaking playoff lost.. go miss tackles elsewhere you bunch of bums!!
We still lost depth on the line. And you hope Jenkins and scandrick are better. especially if Newman goes down again. Yeah Henry is still a starting CB, but I bet he would have been a heck of a safty. He's a ball hawk. We have an undersized NT, and now there's no depth there. Yeah i hope brookins can make up for our 2 LBs we lost. I like spencer upside but he better get atleast 8 sacks. And we still havn't address the turnover situation. That's the real problem, can't put teams away with.
The problem I have with these cuts are the fact that people keep saying, hey we will have 3 very good running backs. So now instead of scoring 30+ we'll be scoring under 20 a game. And the fact that we lost a starting corner, and a 8 sack DE/OLB , a talented NT, a veteren MLB, and 1 of our best DL are you sure we will keep other teams under 20 points. Lets not forget that Romo will give them at least 1-2 extra possesions off turnovers.
Yea but look at who we replaced them with. Henry is not a starting corner anymore, i'm glad he's gone and Jenkins or Scandrick should be much improved. All Wade has done is praise Spencer, he's a much better overall player than Ellis, Greg was terrible against the run. A talented NT?? All I saw was a player who complained and thought he was better than he was. Brooking is an upgrade over Thomas. Brooking 2 years younger, worked with Wade before, and bigger than Zach. I'm also liking Igor!!
lmao im so tired of hearing this '' addition by subtraction ''. we are going to miss TO greatly . same goes for ellis. bottom line!!! the only good i see on the horizon is the firing of jason and wade. check the stats since bill left this team has been on decline. cowher for 2010.
true, but now that we've seen what tashard choice can do. we have 3 starting caliber running backs if you ask me. the running game will be much better this coming season which will open the passing easily. greg ellis' release is iffy, and weighs heavy on Spencer to do work. I think we should have kep ellis, and got rid of Procter so one of these other young guns can come out and paly a bit on the line. but i think it'll be a good season with a playoff win finally.
I wasn't aware of Greg being a problem in the locker room. I don't follow it in the off season very much. But in my opinion the defense hasn't been the problem in Dallas. I hope the new guys are up to it. The Coach is a defensive guy so I have to give him the benifit. I am much more worried about our offense. Who knows mabey we will have a break out year at wide reciever. In any case I will be watching.
H E L L O we know the script, we've seen this horse crap a thousand times. Spencer gets hurt and our rookies suck.
Hey did you watch NFL Live this week those suckas said that we are gonna be the beast in the EAST. We will be better this year without having to play sandlot football and throw to Owens every down. That Romo's gonna have a great year and grow as a QB...ummmhmmm sure okay. Well I'm from Wisoconsin but I always say I'm from the show me state.
Ohh i totally agree with gettin in these locker room maggots faces, but theres some players that you cant get in their faces because they will explode (tank johnson, pacman jones, and definately terrell owens) so those guys got to go! If you cannot take constructive criticism about either your play of the criticism your dishin out in the media, then you got to go! So what do you mean about not seein any roots die yet? What move do you suggest Mr. Jones does next?
Somehow this culture was created under this leadership.
So if you don't like the way the children act...look at the parenting.
Even Zach Thomas was talk trash about the organization...even Zach!...one of the most respected men in the NFL. Something is wrong upstairs and the downstairs chaos was a result of it.
Well i definately agree with that. Whether its jerry jones or wade phillips, or both, there is a problem....i think these changes had to be made, but their is more changes that are needed as well, but unfortunately it wont be this year. Either way, im more confident about this year after all the changes that have been made than i was before the offseason.
I have nothing but respect for Greg Ellis, but at 34 years old he will be making to much money on this roster to be a situational pass rusher. I don't know if Jerry could have waited on a trade because of what he is going to pay Demarcus Ware. I see some are concerned about what we are going to do for dept at linebacker that's why you churn the bottom of the roster. It's not feasible to have all pro players as backup. We should hope Spencer is the real deal and can stay healthy.
Honestly...I wished we would have traded him when we went to the 3-4. He knew then that his role was in jeopardy. When I saw Portis eat him up on the outside...I knew it was not a fulltime place for him as was not the DE position. Greg Ellis has been sitting in cowboys purgatory for 6 years now. Everyone ended up frustrated. Him, the organization, and the fans.
I'm like you Shango, I could care less as far as his attitude, I mean he was just trying to feed his family, that's all. Other than that, as soon as Jerry said, we'll either CUT him or trade him, I know that all the other teams would just sit back and wait for the walking papers to be issued out...I can't understand JJ method here, I'd like to think that he's not senile just yet and that there is actually something working upstairs, but who knows..
I can understand why the Cowboys released Greg Ellis. To pay 4 million to a 34 past his prime pass rusher doesnt make sense, especially when you got a first round pick backing him up. As far as trading him, honestly whos gonna give up draft picks for a guy his age? I think he'll end up in New England, they always stock veterens and get them to produce.
I think everyone understands why they released Ellis. I'm wondering why they waited so long. He should have been cut right after the season if we didn't believe that we could get anything. Not only that, we didn't save the money early and go after a free agent lb with some experience, because now...after Ware and Spencer...We have nothing but rookies...oh, and a guy who hasn't found playing time since he was a first round pick from Ohio State. Put the food back in the cupboard...ya know.
Goratory666 thats an assinine statement that makes you sound like a bratty 6 year old. Jus because someone doesnt agree with your opinion doesnt make them any less a fan.
I understand that viewpoint but don't subscribe to it. I feel that the leaders should step up and be leaders. If you have to slap someone around...then so be it. If you just start removing personalities that you don't like...well, first of all your focus is off football. Secondly...you are presented with a whole new crowd of dissent the following year with other players if you don't fix what is truly wrong...the play on the field.
Next up, Newman? Crayton? R Williams? all love to talk.
Well, if they keep talkin......then HELL YES!!! SHANGO! Have we not learned anything from last year or for that matter the year before! Superstars are great and we had and have plenty, but these guys that call their coaches and teammates out in public to the media ARE TRASH! Cancer is a good word for them! Now after all the offseason changes i dont think any of the guys you listed will have the balls to do that......but if they do, look for them to be next.... I love the way this team is thinkin
Thats right tex......Takin out some of these mouthy locker room maggots! I think the whole teams on notice....watch what you say to the media, it might just cost you your job! and as tank johnson, pacman jones, terrell owens, roy williams and now greg ellis found/are going to find out, once you leave the cowboys....its hard to find a job in this league! LOL
How about getting in the face of these "mouthy locker room maggots" like a real leader should while keeping the focus on winning.....because now, if a player wants to keep their job like you said. Their focus will be on "not messing up" rather than winning. You can't suppress humans and expect the best. You guys are right but you are cutting the kudzu vine at the end. You have to follow it back to the root...and kill it. Maybe that's what they are doing but I have not seen any roots die yet.
I agree that leadership has to start from the top mainly the coaching staff. There is an unspoken culture that there are no consequences for repeated mistakes. For instance, Flozell has at least 1 false start a game or a d line neutral zone infraction. I can recall 2 times last season when Romo waved off the punt team on 4th down and ran a play. Romo would have never done anything like that under Parcell. They respect and like Wade but don't fear him.
Under Jimmy Johnson player respected and feared him because they knew there will be dyer consequences for repeated mistakes(Curvin Richards) especially if you are at the bottom of the roster. Even a soft spoken coach like Dungy was feared by his players. The so called rift rafts weren't really the problem, it was the soft spoken coaching staff. Wade says there will be a new tone this season for our sake I hope he right.
Voicing your concern about your roll in the company and asking to get paid for what you think are worth is cancerous? These days the media is in the story telling business so they will take a not so big story and make it the top story (Swine-Flu). Take an honest look at Ellis's 11 year career with the Cowboys on and give a logical explanation to why he was a cancer to this organization. All I saw was a player that gave great effort on the field and in his community.
Go to your job where you work & start talking about your dissatisfaction with your roll & pay grade to all of your fellow employees in the break room & get back to me on what happens. If you're not happy where you're at you can always go somewhere else, but sitting around crying about it is not the way to go about it. Why would I want someone around who is not happy to be in his position? If you're playing for the muthaphukin Dallas Cowboys & you still ain't happy then I don't need you.
If a guy didn't think his contract was fair then he shouldn't have signed it. You look at me & point at stats & I'll look right back at you & point at post-season wins. 13 years & counting. I don't give a crap about stats. At some point team chemistry out weighs any single individuals stellar performance. The Patriots reached the pinnacle without a bunch of Superstars. Any other team should be able to do the same with PROPER FOCUS. Something you'll never have with guys like TO & Ellis.
We just didn't agree with the way they say things...BUT...If we had anyone...just anyone to address these guys in the proper way before they got to the media.
My parents always taught me to never avoid the bill collector....because it won't just go away. It's the same way with players...you can't see a potential problem and just hope it goes away on it's on. No one in this organization has stepped up to be the leader but Jerry Jones...and we've not faired well with that lately.
I just can't get into vilifying players after they leave the team. Both parties know it was a business decision but to tear down the dude's character....I just can't go along with that. We do it all the time. We even did it to Zach Thomas....go figure? If a guy is breaking the law...I'll never defend. But some of these guys are good church going citizens like Greg.
I'm wasn't attacking Ellis's overall character. I just said he was a cancer in the locker room which is what I'll say about anyone who consistently broadcasts bad vibes that can have a negative influence on the morale of the team I represent.
Going to church is fine, but with as many cretins as I've known that actually go to church I can hardly consider it a lone qualifier for how righteous someone is. Too many people hide behind going to church to cover for indiscretions.
I can definitely agree about the lack of adequate leadership. If no one can motivate these guys we'll get more of the same no matter who is, or isn't on the team.
all of thos epeople who were saying "yay ellis is gone!" and shit. your not a true fuckin cowboys fan. ellis didnt do shit to no body, he helped bring ware along even knowning that he could take is job. and he wasnt gettin paid much, i mean its bullshit.
I really hate to see long time Cowboy players go, but I know they can't stay with the team forever. Ellis may be gone, but his shadow may still linger in the likes of Jason Williams and/or Victor Butler (IF they play like Ellis did.) Who knows, maybe we might have another DeMarcus Ware too. I'm going to go out on a limb here. Ware + Spencer + J. Williams + Butler = SACKS, SACKS, SACKS, AND MORE SACKS! I say we'll still lead the league in sacks even with Ellis out of the picture.
ellis' production was great. That said his pissing and moaning was ridiculous. Also, i had a gut feeling last season that he was one of ed werder's "sources" in the locker room spreadin the gossip of locker room morale.
i'm not even trying to hate here but u guys are looking pretty weak just about everywhere. u lost pacman and henry at corner, u lost roy at safety, ellis, burnett, and thomas at lb, canty and tank on the line, owens at reciever, prob some no names, u didnt have a good draft....good luck shango! lol
Shango, now you're just hatin to be hatin. You know that Jerry is one helluva snakeoil salesman and an even better business man.
So with that in mind you really think that Jerry hasn't been on the DL trying to trade Greg for the past 1-3 years?
Jerry's no fool. Jerry fully understands that announcing your intentions is a desperate move but he was trying to get SOME blood from that old stone. It didn't work. Not Jerry's fault. The NFL thinks Greg's value on the open market is cheap.
Hating? I purposely stood on the fence on this decision. Who am I hating on? Greg? Dallas? You said Jerry and I didn't even say his name.....I stated the facts. 8 sacks walked out the door and we got nothing in return....plus we will have to rely on rookies to replace that production. That is fact....no opinion whatsoever.
I don't even have an opinion on this honestly....I just made the video to tell people what happened. It really ain't gonna make enough of a difference to "hate" on.
swagga....what's that got to do with what she said? We have lost players that added value to the team without adding players to make up for it in return. Sometimes it's a trade....sometimes you bring a guy on to make the person expendable. We haven't replaced the production. it's as simple as that.
You can't get mad people for not seeing what you see.
Well if that's the case then what's your beef? Jerry is just more forward thinking than the YT-gen's attention span can allow.
Jerry replaced Greg with the 1st round pick of a couple years ago. Jerry replaced TO with the former Top 10 pick of a few years ago. Jerry replaced Zach Thomas with another white boy with a non-stop motor. Jerry replaced Canty with Igor...ok, they all can't be upgrades but have to try and keep the hit to a minimum.
I don't have a beef with it...it seems like you are mad because everyone isn't onboard.
I don't give a damn about Greg's leaving but I'm not gonna get on here and say , YAY....we are so much better now without that whiner. It's just not true. Just keeping the head level this year.
Boy....you better not complain at all next year....lol!
I always liked what Ellis brought to our team, I dont completely disagree with the move. Anytime in the last few years we saw Ellis, all we ever saw was negativity, anytime being interviewed, his attitude may have caused this.
I think Jerry is doing his best to have a lousy season. No T.O., no Zach Thomas, no Greg Ellis, and a lousy draft. Why not bench Witten and Romo? Complete the whole thing? Better not say that actually, he might actually do it.
Did ya hear about the Eagles picking up Bryan Stewart? Probly the same reason Childress wants Favre. Know what i mean Shango? What do you think? As for Ellis, i loved the man even though i cried when we took him over Moss. We now have an extra 5 million and a free roster spot so we should'nt that much down. I have a great feeling about this year. This is the year we silence our credits. Go COWBOYS!
He will still pretty productive and was no doubt one of the best leaders on the team. With a team that has so little vocal players , he was one guy that would always voice his opinion. I think there is more to this story then meets the eye. Elliss must of said or done something , and it finally set Jerry Off.
Spencer better stay heathly now or were screwed at linebacker.
It would appear that the last of the Me players are out of dallas. I hope Dallas can truely build a TEAM concept into the players still with the organization. If they can foster that type of TEAM mentality, then they will be fine. I just wish we could have got something for Ellis and not worry about possibly paying a difference in his contract.
Cowboys still suck without him

Yeah im not really fussed about lossing Ellis... But i feel he is good enough to get something for him.
quarn23 2 years ago
I really hate to see long time Cowboy players go, but I know they can't stay with the team forever. Ellis may be gone, but his shadow may still linger in the likes of Jason Williams and/or Victor Butler (IF they play like Ellis did.) Who knows, maybe we might have another DeMarcus Ware too. I'm going to go out on a limb here. Ware + Spencer + J. Williams + Butler = SACKS, SACKS, SACKS, AND MORE SACKS! I say we'll still lead the league in sacks even with Ellis out of the picture.
vegito98124 2 years ago
Ellis can come help out our pass rush. Greg is more then welcome to come to SF
ozzmoises 2 years ago
ellis' production was great. That said his pissing and moaning was ridiculous. Also, i had a gut feeling last season that he was one of ed werder's "sources" in the locker room spreadin the gossip of locker room morale.

Peace out Greg. ill miss him. but I definately want to see Spencer.

Jerry has no business being a GM...that said, I hope he keeps the job for the next 20 years.. :)

i agree!!! jerry jones could have tried to get a trade going for ellis
CRAZE1247 2 years ago
i'm not even trying to hate here but u guys are looking pretty weak just about everywhere. u lost pacman and henry at corner, u lost roy at safety, ellis, burnett, and thomas at lb, canty and tank on the line, owens at reciever, prob some no names, u didnt have a good draft....good luck shango! lol
BigAP92 2 years ago
Shango, now you're just hatin to be hatin. You know that Jerry is one helluva snakeoil salesman and an even better business man.
So with that in mind you really think that Jerry hasn't been on the DL trying to trade Greg for the past 1-3 years?
Jerry's no fool. Jerry fully understands that announcing your intentions is a desperate move but he was trying to get SOME blood from that old stone. It didn't work. Not Jerry's fault. The NFL thinks Greg's value on the open market is cheap.
swaggajee 2 years ago
It really ain't gonna make enough of a difference to "hate" on.
thedallascowboyshow 2 years ago
Ummm you do know that Greg was going to be gone within the next year no matter what right? Greg was going to be a free-agent after this season.
swaggajee 2 years ago
swagga....what's that got to do with what she said? We have lost players that added value to the team without adding players to make up for it in return. Sometimes it's a trade....sometimes you bring a guy on to make the person expendable. We haven't replaced the production. it's as simple as that.
You can't get mad people for not seeing what you see.
Homerism is a disease man.....
thedallascowboyshow 2 years ago
Well if that's the case then what's your beef? Jerry is just more forward thinking than the YT-gen's attention span can allow.
Jerry replaced Greg with the 1st round pick of a couple years ago. Jerry replaced TO with the former Top 10 pick of a few years ago. Jerry replaced Zach Thomas with another white boy with a non-stop motor. Jerry replaced Canty with Igor...ok, they all can't be upgrades but have to try and keep the hit to a minimum.
swaggajee 2 years ago
I don't have a beef with it...it seems like you are mad because everyone isn't onboard.
I don't give a damn about Greg's leaving but I'm not gonna get on here and say , YAY....we are so much better now without that whiner. It's just not true. Just keeping the head level this year.
Boy....you better not complain at all next year....lol!
thedallascowboyshow 2 years ago
What are the cowboys doing???? Taking away a offensive (T.O) now taking away Greg Ellis???
pinoykulet 2 years ago
I'm miss him be a Dallas Cowboys baller. I'll get him back on the Cowboys along with T.O on Madden though lol.
quantae06 2 years ago
Ellis since '98.... Wasn' t he the last player on the roster drafted from the Cowboys in the 90's.
quantae06 2 years ago
Jerry Jones HATES Dallas Cowboys fans, doesn't he?
Seriously, WHO'S going to replace Ellis? We are SOOO weak at LB... Depth is non-existent.
The dude was pretty awesome at DE. But they switched him over to OLB, and he did another awesome job.
But that's Jerry for you. Getting rid of the good, bringing in the crap. :-p
Nothing left to do but wait for the season to come and see what happens.
NoPlaceLikeHomeField 2 years ago
Meh. I never really liked him.
SLiMBALL3R 2 years ago
I always liked what Ellis brought to our team, I dont completely disagree with the move. Anytime in the last few years we saw Ellis, all we ever saw was negativity, anytime being interviewed, his attitude may have caused this.
txmudduck 2 years ago
I think Jerry is doing his best to have a lousy season. No T.O., no Zach Thomas, no Greg Ellis, and a lousy draft. Why not bench Witten and Romo? Complete the whole thing? Better not say that actually, he might actually do it.
Madmoonie 2 years ago
bad move to cut him this Year. i was saying next year.
But i think Spencer can give us 10 sacks.
But again, last year Spencer and Felix both got hurt, and it seems we are banking on these two, guys to do alot.
NWCollapse419 2 years ago
You can't cut him next year. You can choose not to resign him but you can't cut a free agent and that's what he was going to be next year.
swaggajee 2 years ago
ya i forgot he was a free agent next year. still im not mad we cut him
NWCollapse419 2 years ago
Damn dudes been around Since Aikman, Smith, and Irvin. Im really really sad now. Goodluck Ellis ill miss you.
DerrvilleProductions 2 years ago
Did ya hear about the Eagles picking up Bryan Stewart? Probly the same reason Childress wants Favre. Know what i mean Shango? What do you think? As for Ellis, i loved the man even though i cried when we took him over Moss. We now have an extra 5 million and a free roster spot so we should'nt that much down. I have a great feeling about this year. This is the year we silence our credits. Go COWBOYS!

fire jerry as a GM ! im finaly on board to back this move !
southofheaven88 2 years ago
bad move, zero experienced depth under spencer
southofheaven88 2 years ago
I find this pretty shocking....
DangeloM27 2 years ago
11 seasons, 77 sacks.
I wanted more from him.
And he did tarnish his legacy. He didn't ruin it, but he tarnished it for sure.
DCFanatic8 2 years ago
your tarnishing your legacy as well !
your last vid u said we need the 8 sacks but yet you also say to can the guy !
& for all the moss lovers, no way he woulda been here 11 years !
whats he on now ? 3rd or 4th team ?
southofheaven88 2 years ago
It would appear that the last of the Me players are out of dallas. I hope Dallas can truely build a TEAM concept into the players still with the organization. If they can foster that type of TEAM mentality, then they will be fine. I just wish we could have got something for Ellis and not worry about possibly paying a difference in his contract.
