They are Definitely playing live. They use samples that they play along with. But this is definitely LIVE. You can hear the difference if you play the Album version. And I have seen them play this live and it sounds EXACTLY the same. It's just really well mixed.

I think there is an overall backing track they play to, since it has two foreign instruments. The magic is Coldplay dont do this often, I believe every other instrument is being played.... they sound amazing live!

Its obvius they don't play all the instruments you hear there, they play what they can, the rest is recorded and is played as backin track. Anyway, they play they instruments, and they said at least 1 instrument by member is played in a live show ( its reasonable, as they have 2 hands only ). In this tv version you might hear chris voice twice, because they made a mistake turning on his backin vocals thinking he couldn't sing that part. but yes they play live the instrument you see they play

i think all of them are actually playing except the guitarist. i am not sure, but i dont think a guitar can make the sound the track is making. you can clearly hear the acoustic, bass, and drums though.
