What klopy said makes lots of sense, but watching the video a few times over, i think they place the characters in that specific order, and it's talking about life; more specifically, ones life that is in a mess, i.e. Hearts A Mess.

The speaker is you, your spirit.

The earth is your life; the brightened part is what is left of it, the dark is what has past.

The spider symbolizes time, in that once he has past, what is behind him is dark, and cannot be gone to again....

The construction thing resembles work not destruction. I dunno what the first person is suppose to be, maybe 'you', but i think the guy with crutches symbolizes war, the stork is children(and its got cloth over its eyes for a reason), that thing with an axe may be violence fear or work, crane is destruction. I guess the thing on the ice is loneliness, skeleton is death, and i think spider would just be time. Let these things follow you, i.e. don't try to run away, and you can get above it all in the end.
