Lol, males as a group are better with guns(spacial reasoning + stronger -> easier to deal with recoil), but a woman with a gun is closer to a man with a gun than the same people unarmed.
@Swingarthur I feel the same way about being British. If someone tries to mug me, there is a rare chance he hasa gun. In America it's pretty mucha certainty.
I support every citizen being armed. Both with the power to vote for their own laws and representatives, and with a weapon that will equalize things between people as much as possible.
Think about this angle: You never know who is carrying... how about the guy who will come around the corner in two seconds? Will he assume the thief is a cop and carry on, will he assume the thief is actually a victim and try to help, will he call the cops because there's a dead guy over there, or will he draw down on the thief and hold him until the police arrive?
In short: Mr Criminal never knows who might decide to end his criminal career rather permanently.
The phrasing of the 2nd amendment is neither ambiguous nor flawed. Penn & Teller also got it wrong: At the time of the writing of the constitution, "militia" was the name given to semi-professional soldiers; in essence, citizens who organized during a time of conflict to protect their homes. The 2nd amendment enshrines not only the right of people to bear armaments, but also to assemble as militia when their families and property are threatened.
@as2351 agree with you that Penn&Teller gotit wrong, the war of independence had been fought against a professional army, it could be said a mercenary army, not against a militia. By the people the framers meant a well regulated militia IMO
@mechanoid2k well yes, if the British in North Amerika had lost the war or independence it would have been a failed rebellion and a civil war and the founding fathers would have been traitors.
@as2351 You also forget, or do not know, that the militia can use the very same right againts your normal citizen, now take a look at Canada's law- you can carry a handgun even a concealed one, as long as you did not steal it or did any previous crime. Now what are we afraid of ?!
By the way, are they actually thinking that the people of the US are still capable of overthrowing their government with handguns, the country with the most advanced and effective military in the world? Did they mean that, or is it just me who didnt get the irony?
@nosign123 If there was an uprising not all military personnel would fight against there own countrymen, and even if they don't, We stand no chance without guns and at least have a chance with them. as for the people killing each other? well, too many make the bad choices, doesn't mean we should throw out the baby with the bathwater.
@ObserversEyes sorry, I don't trust the police to have my back when I'm attacked or someone brakes into my home and has a gun. they are not everywhere and not all cops are honorable.
@nosign123 I doubt our own military would even think of shooting other americans, unlike the movies most soldiers arent brainless generic morons who would shoot anything.
@nosign123 if you are going to argue this point you should mention the number of HOMICIDES in Germany not the number of gun deaths it would be more effective that way.
also our population of civilians far out ways the population of our military. so a revolution is not entirely unfeasible.

Americans want their government to fear them. Over here in the UK, we'd prefer for our government to RESPECT us.
I'm not sure which desire is more naive, tbh.

homicides per year where guns were used:
Germany: 155
USA: 10310
Inhabitants:
Germany: 80 Million
USA: 300 Million

What is interesting is that those who profess the need to protect their second amendment rights consider themselves the most patriotic.
