I was born in 1993 but i really love those years, the sound of the video, the music they make and also the women. I don't know why but i think women were much beautiful in the 40's,50's than today. I really regret to be born in the 90's lol
You are doing a great thing! Because you're taking the time to do things like this, college kids (like myself) get to learn more about television history. (a lot of this the professors don't even discuss!)
The Colorforms ad with the soundtrack of laughing people is really creepy. The crowd can't be that thrilled over colorforms. Maybe they are under the influence of something.
the father in the lays potato chip part was Burt Lahr who played the cowardly lion in the Wizard of Oz. I'm not not if that was his real son or not but it might have been. it wasnt uncommon for stars to appear with their children in commercials.
@Rollman1 No. Colorforms were items coated on the back with a substance that allowed them to stick to a surface. I had one when I was little.. You would get a board with a drawing of someone in their underwear (I kid you not), and you would 'dress" them by sticking these Colorforms items on them. Or, if you didn't dress them outright, you could put accessories (like an umbrella that stuck) in their hand. The bad part was that these Colorforms items eventually "dried up" and wouldn't stick.
Hey, you cheated with that Big Wheel commercial! It was from the 70's, and this was only supposed to be the 50's and 60's! By the way, what was with the toy creation scene that lasted 10 minutes? That wasn't a commercial, but a how-to. Still, I made it through the entire 59 minutes, and this was fascinating.
@Rollman1 that was the eternal question back in this era.......bosco users and coco marsh users were like democrats and republicans............I was a bosco kid...but my best friend insisted on coco marsh and to this day I think less of him for that
We hated Sonny Fox (the guy in the Good Humor ad). He was as snotty & sadistic as they came to kids. Sandy Becker (Bosco) is known to have said some nasty stuff on camera about kids but was genuinely funny. Notice how they were free to say anything. Dangerous on live TV. Check out his "Hambone" character on YouTube. Still hysterical because he was having so much fun himself. Chuck McCann & Soupy Sales too. But Sonny Fox well the F didn't always mean fox.
The frisbee ad is so spacy. It's freakin' great. Seems like they were aiming up for a little while. What happened to us? We the mainstream liked throwing frisbees back then, for a few years.
I really enjoyed seing GI Joe in "The Secret of the Mummie's Tomb". I hadn't seen that since 1971, but I still knew every shot. I can't imagine how many gig's of tv we all have stored in our brains.
Marvellous, how nonchalant the 'Deluxe Reading' execs are flaunting their mirgant workers in the assembly line ... Nobody looks really happy -- rather uncomfortable with the camera team around (probably lead to unpaid overtime to make up for lost production time while they were filmed) ... But this company certainly cranked out big playsets and toys ... Kinda like Marx Toys: " more for less" ... Cheers, Julia from Florida
After noticing Patty Duke in at least two of these I further observed that the same handful of child actors appear again and again. Who is that boy in the Cocoa Marsh commercial who then appears with Patty in a somewhat earlier pitch for the Remco Drive-In Movie Theater? Looks familiar.
A little old and cheesy compared to today's advertisement but these pitchmen were amazing. I want me a jar of Bosco's. Probably tastes like shit but that guy sold me.
@cquetsch Bosco's okay. You can still get it, but you've got to hunt for it. I'm afraid Coco Marsh has 'headed west', just like Marx Toys. It's kind of sad really. Kids used to play with stuff that made demands on them, not just sitting in front of a monitor like a lump.
You can still buy PF FLYERS , i have the white hightops, they look and smell the same out of the box. But i forgot the pain it was getting these on and tying double bows in front. But a very retro look, the same sneakers you had as a kid.
Dang. That Good Humor thing was AWFUL!! The kid looked like he was crapping his pants and he was a WEIRD looking kid! The host was just a total CREEP! Seemed like a perv to.
