brilliant, mate, try garydcu, the more people that hear this song, this better, we need dudes who can get the working class message across, in england we are under threat of an anti working class government
tell you how i first knew about joe hill we were out partying one night ran into some folks that lived in joe hill house in slc remember goin there...but untill now didnt remember much about it until i was talking to janet bates..look her up shes cool...did some research...now i remember the mural and the rocking chair..dont remember the folks i met .but,,i think it had an affect on me. my sis gave me a copy of JOE HILL GIBBS M SMITH for christmas trying to find another copy.PEACE
It's a great song, but I much prefer the Janet Bates version of the song. Janet's husband, Ken, recites Joe's "Last and Final Will" at the beginning of the song, followed by Janet's inspiring rendition of this classic. The song is available on the CD, "The Colours Will Come Back," by Janet Bates and the Instruments of Change.
A Great Cover on a Great Song.. I remember her woodstock Performance of this.. That looks like a Martin.. Im 2 towns away From the factory in Nazareth,,Great Guitar!!
Great song and performance! I didn't know there was an organizer that was a song writer that came along long before Woody Guthrie. I know Woody had a tough time in his day, I guess it was even harder for Joe Hill.
I like your version better than Joan's cause it sounds more like the way the song was probably written.
"Takes more than guns to kill a man."
(Great line, and true since the music and legend keeps him alive to this day.)
Thanks John. Woody in many respects was conciously following in Joe's footsteps. They both wrote their greatest songs to the tunes of songs that people already knew, especially old folk and gospel songs, which is where they get their power and timelessness...
I don't know if the majority of Americans realize how bad working conditions were in this country at one time, or how hard people like Joe fought to give us the rights and priveleges we enjoy today...

I've heard about 5 versions now, and this is my favorite, even more than Luke Kelly's. Great job!

i know what you mean.i learned it through songs like this, and woody guthrie, pete seeger etc.unions are shrinking again unfortunitely

It's true that workers are losing ground today, and one reason is that they lost their faith in the unions.
