  • Comment removed

  • nice! Thank you for making it clear for everyone!

  • i'm studying how to compose a melody for my ABRSM theory exams next year and my teacher doesn't want me to check (through trial and error) with my violin and i can't tell which is a do from a sol to save my life

once i was singing do re mi and my 're' was higher than my 'mi', so that should tell you how my skills are right now....

so i was wondering if you have any tips for me on how to develop my skills on how to differentiate notes and stuff. thank you

  • this is really helpfull not only to major scales but to all of scales and modes. thanks a lot

  • hi i am a oud player but i learn from u thank

  • I like your music, fadel1254. Thanks for the comment.

  • Thank you for the great exersize! I don't play violin but I always search up te4chniques from other instruments to apply them to guitart, and this exersize is going to be exellent for training my ear more ^.^ I'm sure you could also do this exersize in 5th's or seconds or thirds or whatever you want ^.^

  • Thank you for the response. I am glad to know Mr. Di Russo is still alive. He was nice to me though I had no musical talent.

  • I'm getting ready to start my 6 y.o. on the violin. I gave up the violin 40 years ago but probably would have continued had I a teacher like Professor V. Excellent series of videos!

  • Did you know or replace Mr. DiRusso?

  • Hi photo436,Yes, I know Mr. DiRusso and he still lives here. I believe he retired in 1992 or 1993.

  • I was reading in some online instruction somewhere and it stated that you dont nessisarily press your finger down onto the fingerboard when playing a note. is this true?

  • I remember my professor at Eastman addressing this issue by saying the string had to make contact with the fingerboard. However, I can create a quality sound without pressing the string to the wood - but it is down 99% of the way and the skin is touching the wood. The difference may seem small, but it can be the difference between tension and relaxation in the left hand and arm. Watch my two videos on relaxation techniques for more ideas on this.

  • You are a Godsend!!

I asked before and I am asking again: Please let me know if there is a place where I can donate some money for your invaluable efforts. What I will give may be minuscule but if many of us do it, it may help you set up a school or something.

  • You can give me money Anupamsircar.

  • Nice concept.

    Tryout

    Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti-Doo-

May feel easier to flow with even if u think u voice isn't the best on the planet.

    Pls keep these coming. Thanks.

  • or you can use solfege syllables instead of 'la'

  • This is a great tip.

I've been watching all your videos up to this one so far, and I'm doing the rest of them in sequence as well, just thought I'd stop and thank you for putting in the time to do these videos. It is very much appreciated.

I live out in the middle of nowhere, so I'm not exactly likely to stumble across a violin teacher. It's really great that professional teachers like yourself bother doing this for free.

Karma is going to pay you back bigtime :)

  • Thanx for these helpful lessons , you are one of the best teachers I've ever seen..

  • thanks it really helped me

  • my teachers never even talked about ear training, but i think this is going to help me tremendously. thank you so much!

  • xD this technique is a sick technique. I've tried it on my guitar and I know it will help my ear dramatically. Thanks!

  • Awesome as usual!

  • sir your nice!!

Coz you didn't expect something in return..

you are my idol now from now on.. :)

  • HeHe, Im a 13 year old begginner and I teach myself to play. So this is a really big help. Thank you so much!!

  • LoL...good ole minor and major seconds.

  • thanks for your videos. They're great. I love them.

  • thank you professorv

  • I really love you ProfessorV. Thank you so much!!

  • wow you can reach up to g...haha..sir..

  • it is ugly

  • very helpful. thanks.

  • awesome!!... ill have to sing an octave lower.... haha

  • very nice, thanks, i've been doing that on my guitar as well

  • I will try this also.

It might be a good idea to sing the next solgege syllable such as re when playing do

mi when playing re etc. might

  • Very interesting, I'll try it!

  • Cool. now i understand the meaning of ear training. I wish to see a video on how to tune the violin without using any pitch pipe. Im recently using my flute to tune my violin, also the pitch pipe, but I guess this Ear Training Exercise is somehow can be applied as well in tuning. I Sing Twinkle Twinkle to check my A string with E string, or G string with D string. vice versa

  • wow incredible. I cannot even sing any notes on E string. This is a great trick, thanks!!
