The way that none of the molecules composing your cororeal body are the the same ones that composed you when you were sixteen is the way that this Fairport Convention are the same group that first performed Matty Groves in 1969.
Sorry....I think u gotta keep an open mind if u have a taste in music and Ric is different but by no means worse than Swarb.
But this recording is terrible. Watch the Cmbridge FlkFest one and it much better. But having heard it live during the 08 winter tour I thought it was incredible!
I am afraid I am a lover the old Fairport Convention. I think they have changed all the best song. It's all screechs now. Sorry if I offend someone but this sound awful.
TTL were indeed the support for the 2006/7 winter tour but I dont recall fairport listing the brook as gig on this tour as we go to most of the southern ones, the last time we saw them at the brook was 2004/5 tour when we were sat in the same place as the camera is located in this video. are you sure the dates are correct. we remember the gig as it was my wifes birthday on feb 12th.
hey if you want to see them again the tickets for the festival are on their website! its amazing i have been every year since i was born! this year will be my 13th!! WOO WOO!!!
I think it was "Best Wishes", but I'm not familiar with that track so I couldn't say, but I don't think anyone came on with them. TTL joined them for the second encore of "Meet on the Ledge"
Gerry came forward for Best Wishes!! Quite a surprise. Then Tiny Tin Lady came on to do Meet On The Ledge with 15 year old Beth singing the second verse, what a voice!!
The line up is (from the left): Ric Sanders (violin), Simon Nicol (guitar, vocal), Gerry Conway (drums), Dave Pegg (bass, backing vocal), and Chris Leslie (fiddle, mandolin, vocal).
seriously??????

You are so right - this is cr*p.
Regretably I paid to see Fairport in Sussex'08 - never again! Face it guys, you have no voice, no drummer and NO SWARB! The word is pedestrian.

More of a rock version than the one on the album, but still very good.
Quote on the official site --> "Fairport Convention did for real ale what the Grateful Dead did for LSD."

I realised after I'd posted ...not used to seeing Chris with his hair tied back! Who was the guest on stage that night?

Nice one Thanks! who else is on guitar on this clip?
thirdfloorit 5 years ago
There's only one guitarist now and that's Simon.
I went to see this band in Glasgow a couple of weeks after this gig was filmed.
The person I was staying with said, "ah, they probably won't start 'til half eight". She was wrong.
Fortunately, they saved all the best songs for the last half.

That must be Chris. I have seen him play a guitar before but only on a DVD.
