hi, can you tell me if jerome ramos is in this line up. he is my godfather and i'm trying to find some info on him with the hope of tracking him down.
@rantantara Hi I worked with the Fantastics as their roadie in 1972 when they were UK based. Backing band were the Orange Rainbow. Close friends were the Flirtations. The line up then was Jerry, Don John and Adolphus Beale. Can I help in any way / would like to meet them again. Nigel Bellamy Botswana
@SiroccoBW thanks for that. my father was the guitarist in the orange rainbow, mel day. we are not in contact but i know that he and jerry were good friends but he has not seen him since the mid 70's. all i know now is that jerry is living in new york. if i find out anything more i will let you know.
@rantantara No problem - hope you find what you are looking for. Will have to pull out my old gig list. Have the names and addresses of most of the Band and the Groups home addresses. Other guys on the road with the Fantastics were Johnny Maltby Aidrien Jeffries, Dave Roberts but to name a few.Take care and stay in touch.
How do you guys still have it! This is so awesome. Too much emotion in this....all about love, this song. But more, how talented and classy you fellows were then and now. I appreciate knowing that you're still around. Thanks for the post. :D
the first lineup to perform was charles jerome eulis and dennis. jerome left and joe shepard and nelson shields became charles moffits' velours. this lineup was together from 1980 until 1994 when joe became to ill to perform
Don Haywoode,John Cheetdom and Jerry Remos are all still very much alive and kicking .They went back to N.Y. to be inducted into the R&R Hallof Fame about 9 years ago. Don and John live in London and Romey is in NY.They last performed together at the rockand roll weekend at Gt. Yarmouth 3years ago .
Timeless! They sound almost as good as they did on the original studio verison...amazing! Doo-wop is truly American classical music- nothing else catches the pathos of humanity like these songs. Keep them coming!
I too was at the UGHA show the night Charles Moffitt was murdered on his way home. Meeting him was a great thrill. I'll never forget the unbelievable version they did of C'est La Vie!
I love these guys, whatever formation of the group they appear, but there will never be an equivalent bass replacing the great Charlie Moffitt. I always made him old gospel tapes quarter tapes. He used to call me up and thank me, but I could never fully understand what he was telling me because he had such a deep rich talking and singing voice!
jusme714- it was great bass Charles Moffitt who was murdered when he got home to Brooklyn after a New Jersey show in Nov. 1986. I was @the show- not known if a random robbery or a "hit."
actually three original members helped form this group charles jerome and john pierson were part of the first lineup along with eulis mason and john sutton.pierson and sutton both left before they did any performances.
Your right on the mark with your comments. I've heard them many times at UGHA and they actually sound fabulous. Charles Moffitt does justice to the Velours sound and the group could double for the original.
@doctordoowop : Hey doc, I remember that night like it was last night,, I was on that stage that night, with the Delmonicos, (I'm the bass Gary Knight) and was talking with Charlie back stage,, super guy, was truly saddened when I heard the tragic news..I have listened to them all and Chas was the most unique and creative...
Let one dare not say, "Doo-Wop, the greatest sounding music to one's ear." And, to see the Velours STILL putting it out there after all these years. AND, sounding terrific.
Fanastic!!Could't believe this classic was posted!Great vocals by the lead singer and the rest of the group! What's so amazing is the lead singer. He sounds absolutely fanatasic after all these years!Hitting those notes were great!Bless you all for the memories, sent me back to teen time.!!!Thanks for posting
My man "Useless" Mason(only cuz he won't do Can I Walk You Home).Great group-Witt,Shields,Sanders and the great lead of Mr Mason.Doesn't get any better than this.
That's Bobby Jay as MC with Eulis Nason on lead vocals, and Bill Witt on bass, Wait! Is that Nelson Shields? and Ray Sanders on first tenor too..yep!..Just fantastic! From Brooklyn, NY
no its not The real group now mostly live in the Uk see video from Ian levine singers from left to right Don Heywoode (original)John cheetdom (original)Jimmy cherry (not).Jerome ramos still in N.Y.

This group is named after charles moffitt.
(THE CHARLES MOFFITT VELOURS)WHO IN MY OPINION ARE THE ONLY AND BEST VELOURS GROUP OUT THERE.
WHAT EVER IS LEFT OF THE ORIGINAL GROUP ARE NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ORIGINAL RECORDINGS.LIKE THIS GROUP..JUST CLOSE YOUR EYES,AND LISTEN.
BTW CHARLES WAS BRUTALLY STABBED IN THE ELEVATOR OF THE BUILDING HE LIVED IN,A VICTIM OF A RANDOM ROBBERY..
