  • Well l guess l could always sell cars for a living.....

  • oh wow...

  • uffff...It is very gratifying to see great players like you.

  • WTF With this guy!!!

  • yes, great chops, great playing, great sound and technique, but this is a Blues, I would prefer less notes, more feel & emotion and less drills and planned patterns.

  • @gjgmusic Yeh but you can go and see thousands of guitarists do that every weekend. None of them can do what he's doing - if you've got it, flaunt it, I say.

  • i thought porn wasn't allowed on youtube?

  • Why isn't this guy as famous as Buckethead or something???

  • @Vwisehoon Pure speed and technique is not synonymous with great talent would be the obvious answer.

  • @turockandar So are you saying he's less famous because he's better than buckethead? XD

  • @Vwisehoon One of the problems of online communication is that many people don't seem to understand basic English. What I said it that playing very fast does not necessarily mean that he has great feeling and artistic talent; there are plenty of shredders out there. If English is not your mother tongue then this comment does not apply to you.

  • @turockandar No, I responded because you didn't answer my question. I said "How come he isn't as famous as buckethead?" because both his technical skill and the emotion in his playing is superb. You told me that those are two different things. I already know that.

  • Govan rules !!! greets from Amsterdam ...PLEASE come and play !!!!i depend on it !!!

  • hey don't leave anything out dude !!! lol... awesome love it,,,

  • you better not try this at home.

  • The face he pulls in the very first bend makes me laugh SOOOO hard

  • @LunarLionheart he always has the funkiest faces man. check him out in "along the tracks" the face he does when he first starts playing reminds me of a mischievous cartoon devil ;)

  • 0:06: "No, you definitely shouldn't try this."

  • Why can't I put 100 thumbs up???........(((((

  • Only me thinks that that is the perfect shred???

  • I found that annoying after like 1 minute :(

  • Very few people can play this fast and make it sound so musical, or fit it into a blues progression without it turning into a mess. This is really amazing stuff, beautiful tone and stunning fretboard knowledge.

  • @SconeMason This is exactly what I was going to say, before I saw your message. Couldn't have put it better myself!

  • Too. Fucking. Sick

  • Good improvising should involve the audience. I feel quite sure that nobody watching this would be able to sing or whistle virtually any of it. So therefore speed = Brilliant guitarist, so therefore = Jimi Hendrix? you're shit because you couldn't play as fast as Guthrie Govan. Oh Dave Gilmour? You're not even worth mentioning—you're solo in Comfortably numb is so slow maaaaan....

  • When you play the guitar, think of the saxophone—A saxophonist needs to take rests to get his/her breath before playing another phrase. These rests help to 'frame' the phrases. This just sounds like somebody has eaten a dodgy curry and then had a massive attack of diarrhea all over the place='Oh I'm Guthrie Govan and I'm the fastest guitarist in the whole world...' - So fucking what...

  • This is not good improvising. A good improviser would leave a few rests, play a melody that everybody could latch onto, play with the melody they've established—This is just somebody playing their fast scale exercises on auto pilot. Why bother listening to somebody running on auto pilot? There's not real spontaneity happening — big load of pointless ego wank!!! At least 70% of his solos are like this...

  • at 2:02 he kinda run out of gas, but he pump instantly and keep playing. yes my favorite!!

  • This man brings good tears to my eyes

  • His phrasing reminds me of shawn lane.

  • @AisAbsolute Makes sense - he used to transcribe Shawn for a living.

  • He is a genious!

  • Huh? what did you say? I couldnt hear you cause my ears ARE BLEEDING FROM AWESOME!!!!

  • cool, smooth, delicious sound.....

  • Tab please?

  • Sounds like a Paul Gilbert for some reason. I don't know what it is.

  • @Tremblay343 i think its just the incredibly clean and perfect playing

  • @nato101010 Oh, I love a bit of dirt and filth and feeling and mess meself - bit of humanity. Something real. Not just flawless, superfast scale exercise, ego wank...

  • La classe tranquille, il a tout assimilé, le bues le fait bien rigoler !

  • You can recognize a great guitarist by his guitar face. When your mouth starts moving along to the music you play it's because your soul is talking

  • fkn virtuoso

  • The only dislike is that guitar's father..

  • 'no description available', no description necessary!

  • his head looks like pubes !!

  • flawless... but who the fuck could actually listen to this "music"? For me it's nothing more than a demonstration. Treating an instrument like a sport device is just competitive nonsense and has absolutely nothing to do with music. Comments like "this improv just gave me a reason to simply bury my guitar... and myself right underneath." are just embarrassing and shows this sick mentality of wanting to be "THE WORLD'S BEST GUITARIST". I'm ashamed to be one of you - a guitarist.

  • @Kornhulio18 i totally agree man...it's a lot easier to watch a guy play very fast and bitch about how better and faster he is than you and bla bla bla than just study some fuckin real music and learn how to be a real musician. (of course i don't mean govan isn't a real one)

  • @Kornhulio18

Have you actually listened to his "music"? Or are you making your opinion based on this video? Have a listen to his album Erotic Cakes.. He's got great taste for playing and writes great instrumental songs.

  • @Kornhulio18 Absolutely 100% correct. My own sentiments entirely. This guitar playing is just a load of 32nd note ego wank over a silly little 1,4,5 funky 12 bar at about 112 bpm. If you're going to jam over easy music like this, at least play something structured and intelligent that uses some applied music psychology, so it makes sense and doesn't sound like 100% total EGO WANKING...

  • nice work...

  • lol i like how 1 person was like hmm...no this guy is terrible.

  • @Beauthegreat1 LOL = that's because most people are moronic wankers and are easily impressed by ego wank. Like you for instance. LOL...

  • @kewlfonz I'm not even close to easily impressed. Guthrie covers a ridiculous amount of different scales and techniques, half the comments on this video are you babbling and being a youtube troll. Stop wasting your time wanker

  • @Beauthegreat1 go fuck yourself wanker

  • @kewlfonz And the same to you naturally...

  • Comment removed

  • @chuckie54able terrible troll, 1/10.

  • I love how he's like "Take that you god damn guitar!" while he plays.

  • i never got depressed but rather inspired by watching great guitarists play but this improv just gave me a reason to simply bury my guitar... and myself right underneath. xD -.-

  • @Torture1504 If a load of scale exercises played as 32nd notes over a simple 12 bar 3 chord blues make you want to bury yourself, you deserve to be buried. One less moron in the world= so what...

  • ive give anything to study with this guy....

  • Guthrie's chops are so powerful that I turn him down when I drive past the cemetary out of fear the dead may rise.

  • @vhtnut No! Jimi Hendrix can make the dead rise, because Jimi Hendrix' guitar playing was downright evil. This playing is just scale patterns played at 32nd note groupings designed to impress the easily impressed and gullible... No feel. No soul, just massive ego wanking. Oh I'm the fastest guitarist in the world - So what. Do you think Jimi Hendrix was worried about being the fastest??? I think not...

  • @kewlfonz another close minded Hendrix fan...

  • @kewlfonz Go buy Guthrie's solo album you ungrateful fuck.

    Stop wanking on about bullshit.

  • @kewlfonz jimmy hendrix was first realized because he was faster and more impressive than clapton.. so i think he did like to play fast.. he was one of the fastest, for his time, and one the greatest for his time.. but if you knew anything about music or the beautiful phrasing that guthrie govan has you would understand that he is much more than speed, get out of the seventies and realize that it guthrie govan improved on what hendrix started and made it his own

  • @kewlfonz totaly agry with you but not specialy bout JH,more with SRV,Jeff Beck, and lotsa great guitar players

anyway, this guy can play ,and he s mastering his art no one can contest that fact!

  • @kewlfonz NO SOUL NO FEELING HERPDERP

Open your mind. There is INFINITELY more going on in Guthrie's playing than "look at me! I'm fast!" Funny how nothing he did here involved shredding a simple scale. Hendrix knew nothing of theory, and couldn't even dream of playing anywhere this articulate, with such phrasing and depth. By the way, quantify "feel" and "soul" for me here. Also, look at Guthrie's "Cold Winter Blues" vid and tell me "no soul." NO EMOSHUNZ lol learn theory and open your mind.

  • one person has a tiny penis

  • awesome guitar skills. i think it'd sound better if he kept more space between the parts though

  • @stewnaaitsabes Thank god for that!!! There's actually a few people on here that aren't totally morons. Reassuring...

  • holy balls

  • Bloody brilliant guitar playing, my god!

  • who is this son of a BITCH who dislike this video?

  • xD

  • @MrCockSlut I bet a trillion headshots

  • how many head shots did u get with your guitar to get red tiger

  • @MrCockSlut LOL thats pretty damn funny

  • @Lerborn thanks man, it makes me happy when i have a top comment and i didnt know til you commented

  • @MrCockSlut hahahah!

  • @MrCockSlut It aint call of duty :P

  • @666Joints666 where did my top comment go ? fuckin youtube

  • He shreds... but it still sounds good. Crazy things...

  • @AraoftheFunk its cause he doesnt use overdrive. it makes shredding sound like sweet, sweet jazz!

  • @Pitamar1 I don't think you should need anything with a $5000 Cornford amp. It better sound good without effects pedals for that kind of money.

  • What is the green thing on the edge of his headstock? I know he uses it to mute or dampen the strings, but what is it and where do I get one?

  • @mrcouch1 It's a ruber band, for hair.

  • @Raxel7 Nope, it's a L'Oreal Guitar Muter L'Extraordinaire. I got mine for $199 from Bangkok.

  • @mrcouch1 its a hair band. you can find one in your sisters bedroom

  • Ah, that's lovely. Now, can you sing me a song?

  • @fatbloke2 Guthrie creates his melodies with his guitar, not by song. Song could not come near any of the complex melodies a guitar can create.

  • Malmsteen + Feeling = Guthrie Govan

  • @bashoflord uhhmm noo, malmsteen has classical roots and btw he does have feeling ... guthrie govan has blues roots, they are two very different guitar players

  • @bashoflord He is nowhere near Govan.

  • 1:24 - 1:26 Pacman died.

  • @Stevemcsteve and marino is still doin it...!!!!! this guy is good too... lol.

  • @Stevemcsteve And Rory Galagher Is Born again,or is ee just jesus ?

  • @sunglassesonme Rory Gallagher wouldn't play a load of pointless ego wank like this...

  • This is from another world.

  • This is fucking ridiculous. There is no way my fingers can move like that. Fuck me. You mock me Lord, Oh why do you mock me.

  • notes came out from mouth and guitar

  • sweet jesus thats mad

  • Thats it, im selling all my guitar shit and taking up the piano.

  • obviously there's no description, there is no word in the universe to describe this magic!

  • @alextolson123 Yeh there is—Bullshit ego wank to impress the gullible...

  • no dislike..coz its amazing

  • why do I even try?

  • I never knew Billy Connolly could play !!

  • I never knew Bill Connolly could play !!

  • Have you heard that 1 mistake!? Neither have I.

  • @PrehistoricBeasts To err is human -

  • Is he actually using his other fingers along his pick?

I gotta try that. RIGHT NOW.

  • @Dgnarus Its called hybrid picking. Its more of a chicken picken thing but as you see in the video its great for any style.

  • no i don't want to purchase the backing track ...but where do i get these fingers?

  • i saw a lot of holdsworth with the 4 finger scales, but didn't really hear any. and ya, to the best of my knowledge, all this stuff is improvised

  • sorry guys... i would have commented sooner but i only just regained feeling in my hands

  • Deje así...

  • OK I can go home and cut my fingers off now!!!!!!

  • didn't hear any holdsworth but fantastic ... that was improvised???

  • OH! Some allan holdsworth in there hahaha

  • Randy Rhoads would love this guy if he were still among us. He is his own man like Randy, plays with great chops like Randy, and they both play with feeling and soul no matter how fast they play :) Peace. -dave

  • Who the fuuuck does this guy think he is? Fuck!!!!!!

  • did he really reach from the 9th to the 15th??

  • @MarkAndrewMusic haha shawn lane was pulling off stretches from 11th to 19th! its crazy!

  • Steve Vai is out, Guthrie Govan is in!

  • @imasterrr he doesnt really stick to scales, although you could say he was using mixo but he mostly just lands on key notes at all the right times with perfect transitions

  • I stopped playing the guitar about 20 years ago, as I sold all my gear to buy my first car. I've regretted it ever snce, but after watching this video, I bloody LOVED that car. I couldn't play like that if I'd got 20 fingers on my left hand, and stayed at home all day practicing!!!! That said, if I DID have 20 fingers, then I'd probably stay at home all day anyway...................

  • i doubt I could play like that if I were, like him, Jesus...

  • 4 years to transcribe!

  • I hate watchin this guy cause it makes me think how good i'll never be

  • The last note in the phrase at 2.03 was a complete shambles....he had a mare. honestly, i dont know what all the fuss is about!!

  • @MrHaydrian Go ahead and post your version of this bro.

  • such a clean tone!!!

  • I think my hair will be twice that long before I'm rocking like this!

  • .... I dribbled in awe!

  • which scales did he use? I think a lot of chromatic and ??

  • He's one of those players who don't need to accent his notes to sound like he's got feel. But he does anyways. It's scary good...

  • This is the most amazing thing ive ever heard over a I-IV-V prog. EVER. How does he even do...oh god.

  • @blackalbino360 dude its a I III IV

  • @xPanterAx666 Nah, the backtrack is E A B

  • @blackalbino360 dude i totally know im just messin' with you heehe (i was bored so..) :D

  • @xPanterAx666 Nah, wrong. It's actually I IV V. Go and learn your theory properly...

  • this guy belongs in a band like Atheist, Cynic or Nile. so technical and talented

  • @jamesbonello1 what the fuck? you want this guy to play death metal? no fuckin' way, man.

  • @DennChooch i dont WANT him to play death metal haha but he'd be fucking amazing if he did :)

  • @jamesbonello1 and the next betcha can' play this Karl Sanders? :D haha

  • I absolutely love this. Sooooo fluid and smooth with a real funky, bluesy feel. Back to the garage to practice for me!

  • holy shit

  • @applemartini2 yah, really

  • good god man...ab-SO-lutely re-far-king-diculous...if you had anymore chops you'd be a Kung Fu movie...haiyaaaaahhhhhh!!!

  • @82mangini - HA HA HA define "a lot" - there are 7 billion humans on this planet...are you telling me over 70% of the planet can pull off Guthrie Govan? I think not...Sure I know some cats who do Guthrie...but every single one of them IS Guthrie...my friend...you need to check yourself...and keep your unimpressive criticism to yourself...so where is YOUR video doing these chops...thought so - there ain't one. Go stand in the queue for losers bro - the FAR QUEUE!!!

  • @1Ma9iN8tive HA HA HA define "a lot" - there are 7 billion humans on this planet...are you telling me over 70% of the planet can pull off Guthrie Govan? — Fortunately not. One's enough - fucking boring.

If only there was a few like Jimi Hendrix, might be some good music around for a change...

  • Comment removed

  • @kewlfonz - there is no doubt in my mind that Hendrix would be a close friend of Guthrie's if he were here...perhaps even sharing ideas and creating new music...and ironically your boredom with Guthrie's preference for musicality goes equally for the wish to have more Hendrixian players around...even Hendrix was bored with his own rut and if he had been surrounded by truly supportive souls instead of soul destroying fuckwits who knows...he may have done Guthrie, Satriani, et al first.

  • @1Ma9iN8tive Too bad Hendrix didn't know shit about theory and was sloppy as hell lol.

  • @kewlfonz Oh my god, stop with the Guthrie bashing. We get it, you don't like this song. But don't take this as an example of his overall playing. Listen to Sevens, Fives & Waves by him then say his playing is boring.

Plus if you want more of an example of his playing, go and listen to some of his work with The Fellowship. But stop sucking Hendrix's dick. Yes at the time his playing was revolutionary, but now it really is nothing special.

  • @Mangoeeeeeeees So true!

  • Squeezing a blues!
