  • There is a lot more that the likes of Google can be doing to support the whistleblowing process and the fight against sellers of counterfeit goods.

Public awareness: the reporting hotline for the country could be hosted directly and obvious in the Google main web search page, the Google main shopping search page, and again in the Google search results pages. The same for the warning messages “BEWARE FAKES” “REPORT FAKES” and the "Watch this clip before you buy!" video clip embedded alongside.

  • There is not a chance that 70% of illegal camcording of movies is coming from Canada. As far as illegal activity and movies being sold to support it? What a load of shit. No one i know will even download a camcorder copy for FREE nevermind pay for it. As far as that making money anywhere not a a chance. Normal people wait a few weeks and watch a dvd copy. I've gone to plenty of movies and not once seen a dweeb with a camcorder.

  • That's right we are lax on piracy laws because no one gives a shit. Police and politicians have more to worry about then making fithy rich spoiled faggot corporate ceo's and overpaid actors more money while they try and sue jonny and his kids for more money then what there house is worth becaue he downloaded a movie or cd. The fact that little fags like justin bieber can make millions for being a talentless shit and then flaunt it in your face and expect you to pay for it? Fuck off it's free

  • What IS a crime is the audio quality of this video...

  • umm pirated movies and software is set in swedan not canada because swedan doesnt have copyright laws

  • Together we can kill this bill. Vote NDP or LIberal, and our vote will fire Stephen Harper and his government thus killing this bill!!!! Stephen Harper YOU'RE FIRED!

  • @newstream2010 You know this video was posted in July of 2007...right?

  • talk of the $#@! you want, Canada is the best place to live.

  • Fuck the industry, we aren't paying for your shit.

  • One of the comments said: they use pirating to profit illegal organizations. Or something..

This is bullshit since then IS NO profit in piracy. Its free..... :P no profit

  • There are still those people who would pirate games, etc. and then try to pass them off as official copies and sell them to others via a flea market, etc.

  • I have heard of people selling movies for 5 bucks a dvd. Majority of people that I met who do this are using the money to put extra food on the table. They use the money from selling piracy to even buy clothes and to help to makesure that their child or children have a lunch when they goto school. Not all schools have a lunch program, just thought I would mention that before someone nails me for it!

  • There are ppl who are in for the cash, look at all the invite torrent sites.. they have vip accounts ( pay 10 $ a month and u dont have to bother with ratio) and banners on their pages. Im not pro piracy but im not totally against it either. When media hypes and twist their reviews for advertisement sales.

  • @senario4

How about those random $3 ones at that shady store at the asian mall? That's what they're talking about.

  • @senario4 totally agreed...who is the dummy whos aid that

  • WTF, honestly. Who watches camcorded movies? The quality sucks. If the studios want pirating to stop then they should stop charging $25 for a damn DVD. Honestly, when a new release movie comes to DVD/bluray it costs $20+. Nobody wants to pay that so they just download it. If the hard copies were around $4-5 from time of release then they would no doubt increase profits.

  • why? everyone goes an buys video games nowdays that cost $60-$90 or more! dvds are cheaper than most means of entertainment

  • yeah, but how often do you buy a new video game? The last time I bought a new game was when Halo 3 came out because I couldn't find a blockbuster that had one available for rent. Otherwise I just rent the game once or twice until its available used for $15 or less

  • spartans right movie industries are the only ones who feel they have the right to put a 2000%+ markup on their goods. Video games don't make millions of dollars in theaters prior to being sold and they are enjoyed for more then a couple of hours. They will eventually drop their price down to a 500% profit and the pirating will have to stop. Right now they're making more money raping people, and the guy at the flea market is loving it.

  • i dont buy any media unless i really enjoy the author and know the money is going directly to them.

  • america should stop trying to butt into other contry's buisness when they themselves ar PHAILING!

    p.s. canada ftw

  • I agree...if i had never downloaded all the new music. I wouldn't be able to depict what is sold as a poor selection and what is sold as a good selection. Rarely do i ever get to buy a product at HMV that has my interests, if im lucky and i find a music cd i like, i usualy get this once or twice a month. Its that week. If anything they should allow the use as internet download and torrenting so that artists can widespread their products and earn a living out of it.

  • "Outsiders percieve Canada as a backward nation..."

What? Maybe the US does, but I'm from the UK and I see Canada as a very liberal and progresssive country.

  • america should mind its own god dammed business.

  • LOLOL uh... no, eh.

  • Grow up, we know you Americans get get through a day without putting down another country for no reason, but you MUST not be a child anymore.

  • niceeeeeeee vidddd check mine out on meetyourfling(.Com)

    bedlingt

    21288114

  • funny thing they dont take into consideration. 99.9% of the stuff i have downloaded I WOULD HAVE NEVER BOUGHT TO BEGIN WITH! Long before downloading, I DID NOT have a music collection. OR movie collection. Infact, I buy MORE stuff now than I EVER did before internet came along. Funny how that works isnt it?

  • I lived in the US for twenty three years and watched the US control it's markets at Canadians expense and they continue to do it.

    Sovereignty NOW!!!

  • When they completely collapse we will have it. Though some of our fellow brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers. Grandma's and Grandpa's might be caught in the turmoil. So let us fight all the harder for equal and EFFECTIVE social programs. Instead of Bureaucratic miss handling. Eliminate the process from people to power. The people are the power.

  • Charging $20 for "Dude Where's My Car" that's worst than video piracy.

  • @PowerAxeKiller hey, that is a quality movie with solid morals

  • Thank god this was here, it gave me so many good quotes for my english paper.

  • nice video. its good to see some thinking.

  • so its not "arrrrrr"... its "ehh" now?

  • Dear, dear. Hollywood must be down to its last few tens of billions by now. And why Canada? If you check out countries like China, I wish you good luck to find more than a couple of people with original music CDs or DVDs.

  • I think the video can be summed up easily into: "Dear Canadians. Give us 'our' money and then fuck yourselves. From: Many US corporations"

Thank heaven for small favors this crap hasn't been passed in the HOC yet...government for the people...sometimes.

  • Copying information is ethical no matter what. Just because someone else licks their cookies of information with an encircled "C" doesn't mean it's no longer ethical to copy it. Honestly, we copy this stuff into our brains all the time, do we owe royalties to music labels everytime we hum a song we heard on the radio?

  • They would make us Pay royalties for the book we read if they had the Chance. 50 cents per page

  • Werner Van Braun gave a presentation about how News Papers are failing to reach people while the Internet social networks can reach nearly 200% minimum the hits. He was asking people if they know how to compete with this for fiscal gain and information distribution.

  • Haha! THOSE Canadians! Hahahahaha!!!

  • Didn't Michael Moore make a movie where the theme was blaming Canada?

  • that was Matt Stone and Trey Parker.

  • And really they made fun of america for blaming canada if you really watch the movie.

    (South Park)

  • As a Canadian that fully endorses south park I'm HONORED that of all the things South Park have commented and mocked, Canada was the real Issue besides Saddam's Love affair. So it made me proud to know that Canada kicked some American But in the first South Park movie. Proving once and for all that Canada kicks ass. Now it's aboot time you get ta work eh? Make it a better world.

  • What's missing? How about explaining where all these so-called statistics come from? I can't be the only one who seriously doubts crazy claims by American interests! Where do they get their figures about this alleged piracy? How do they collect their data? Canadian piracy is mostly myth!

  • American News is ALL myth my friend.

  • This need more coverage

  • massive understatement

  • I was in Alberta flee markets and saw no piracy in any of the flee markets. BC piracy in flee markets is low. Ontario piracy is higher! Quebec has piracy in the rental sector. I found 6 video stores in quebec city that rents the purpple dvd blanks but with a color label. The Atlantic provinces like Nova scotia PEI and Newfoundland has 0 public piracy on movies. Satastics are in the wrong area's!

  • All the pirates are chinease, gauam and muslims doing the piracy! This is not racist at all it's fact! Go to all the flee markets in Ontario, your guranteed to find at least 6 people selling pirate films that are still in theatre. Just about all flee markets throughout the GTA has pirates in there selling illegal movies. Brampton and mississauga is the highest rate

  • fuck the riaa

  • great video man keep up the good work

  • Fuck this whole bullshit about tougher copyright laws in Canada! Do you think parents that are Judges, Lawyers, Police Officers are going to start buying every goddamn cd or dvd that their kids want? Fuck no. Download that shit and shut the fuck up! Lets take the middle working class for an example! people want entertainment there is no doubt about that. The working middle class can't afford to do most entertainment activities. Dvd movies are to fucking costly

  • Great. It was very informative. Did you hear about how the CRIA is threatening legal action against Demonoid and now Canadian users cant get access to that website which I believe to be a complete pile of shit damn the CRIA.

  • Funny, how a lot of the quotes about Canadian Piracy are from 2006, and the video tells us that it's not true because of laws passed in 2007... Great job, eh?

  • For anyone who's to lazy to watch the whole video, it's about how the united states try to blame Canada for being the worst country in piracy laws (or something like that), and after all of those facts it says this is what they don't tell you... and long story short, it turns out we're actually one of the best (again something like that ;p)

  • "fuck you corporate america"

"had to turn this off it was so boring"

"Congratulations on Canadians being #1 in coping movies."

"FUCK DRM FUCK RIAA FUCK THE MPAA AND FUCK the TRUSTED COMPUTING chip AND MICROSOFT"

    Ditto :)

(The person in the last quote curses a lot, but actually knows her shit. Do a google for drm or trusted computing. Choose copyleft, choose linux)

  • I agree.

    Linux is god now.

  • That's right kids! When somthing goes wrong in our fuck hole of a country, we should blame those dumb asses up north! We blamed them for the blackout, for 9/11, for starting the war on Christmas, and we even thought that they would all flock to this shit hole of a country. And now, we're blaming them for piracy! So kids, if we ever have a national problem, we should just Blame Canada!

    I really hate American Politicians.

  • Avoiding responsability, or better yet putting it somewhere else is the number #1 tactic of politicians - or corporations for that matter to maintain people's love of them.

  • It is very simple to understand really.

In Canada we pay a hefty taxation on DvD CD etc, and the government states that we can record ANYTHING we wish on them, as long as they are for personal use. So unless you are selling the copies, you are well within the law. This was discussed on the radio the other day, so this info is up to date.

  • FUCK DRM FUCK RIAA FUCK THE MPAA AND FUCK the TRUSTED COMPUTING chip AND MICROSOFT!!!

  • had to turn this off it was so boring. Congratulations on Canadians being #1 in coping movies. Fuck Hollywood and their highly overpayed actors

  • Very well done. Canadians should send this link to their Members of Parliament (look up yours at parl gc ca) and ask that their MP watch the video and respond.

  • Amen to the guy who said "fuck you corporate america". I'd also like to add a big fuck you to all artists making multiple millions every year yet whine about 'lost sales' as if their children were starving. HOW GREEDY CAN YOU GET?

  • Well, keep in mind that only very few artists make that kind of money. (Most artists make barely a living from their craft. Its not because piracy is hurting the little guy, its the big guys that the suits promote via payola that squeeze them out.) The greed is far and away mostly with the publishers.

  • That's why Canadian Artist's formed their coalition, and for their position and Honesty the Canadian People support MADE IN CANADA with a passion. Besides most of our stuff is imported. Or so it seems when I read MADE IN CHINA or MADE IN TAIWAN stamped or molded into my product. I ACTIVELY SEARCH for MADE IN CANADA. Even though I will pay a higher price, I also purchase from smaller local stores to support local Business. Because that's where it matters. Not some coke head in Hollywood.

  • Enlightening and smart. Thanks for this, I knew those piracy accusations were overreactions but I never had cold hard facts to back up the thought. I hope your video opens other peoples eyes as well. Great work!

  • fuck you corporate america, piracy is the new way to make the corporations pay back the little bit that they have stolen from us.

  • Great video. Canadians should be mindful of the pressure being put on their government from American industries.

The legislation being passed due to these inaccurate and misleading allegations are threating privacy rights and stifling the generation of Canadian creative and intellectual content.

  • Thanks for putting this video together. The American lobbyists pushing for changes to to Canadian copyright laws for their own agendas sickens me. Not needed. Not wanted. I wish the artists themselves had greater awareness of how the industry works when they're starting out.

  • Excellent video. This is just another case of "blame Canada".

  • Excellent video - we need more of this sort of info on the UK.

  • lobbyists are the biggest liar's next to g w bush and co.

  • Not sure what point you're trying to make here. This is the worst most convoluted, boring slide-show I've seen in years. It takes me back. Thanks for the snorefest!

  • Not sure what point? It might be time to change your clue filter ...

  • Oh, I know what point they're suppose to make, but if you think anyone is going to sit here and watch a fast video of blurry text sprinkled with charts and graphs and bad music, you got to be kidding me. This is YouTube, not BoreTube. People come to watch videos here, not read badly made PowerPoint presentations.

  • Good thing, then, that you didn't waste your time watching this, or worse, crafting a witty yet dismissive comment.

  • Oh, you're mistaken. I watched this video--ever damn boring moment of it.

How's this for witty yet dismissive comment, "I want my 8 minutes and 51 seconds back!"

  • Sorry, not witty enough. Keep trying though.

  • I love how you said "if you think anyone is going to sit here and watch a fast video of blurry text sprinkled with charts and graphs and bad music, you got to be kidding me." then shortly said afterwards "Oh, you're mistaken. I watched this video--ever damn boring moment of it."

kind of an anticlimax, really. confusing too. maybe try to form a complete thought before you post next time? :)

  • Okay, here a complete thought for you, ginafaloola. I was taking about other people.

In order to review fairly what turned out to be a complete waste of anyone's time, I had to watch it all. If I hadn't, some other asswipe would have started whining about how "You didn't see the whole video, so how can you know for sure that it's really boring!"

Are you telling me that you really expect me to say the video was boring without even watching it first? Come on, you must be joking.

  • Boring is compacting as many repetitive facts you can in under 10 minutes, without connecting any dots, and hoping people will see a myopic point of view without any relevant context. You know, really hammer the point -- boring!

So, I know that other people who have the attention span of goldfish aren't going to watch this long with any interest whatsoever. And for those who might have, one won't be able to speed-read through all the bury text fast enough to care.

  • The RIAA and MPAA will dig their own grave, as they are doing now.

  • Good video, even if the media industry claims do make me grit my teeth down to nubs... My prediction? The more we resist the passing of asinine laws in suppliance of big media corporations, the more development, innovation, and creative output will come from Canada.
