temple of the dog were 2 members of soundgarden and 4 members of pearl jam in 1991. but since then matt cameron joined pearl jam and so it is true that if you take chris cornell out of the equation then you are left with just pearl jam members.
Man, these lyrics are GREAT! Coupled w/ Cornell's voice and the PJ fellas laying down the sound... WOW! "Don't try to kill your time, you might do it, then you can't change your mind". WOW! Again.

@gassygunslinger Thanks for the advice, but i don't stress out about these things.
I'd like to thank you however, for commenting. If not for you i would never have seen lovebattery100's response to himself about me. I guess he did'nt want me to respond, but wanted to say more. I SMELL COWARDICE!
@Beskrock i bet you could not make it through a intense heroin withdrawl. talk about a weak person. i am currently doing what of the most difficult things a person can do completly on my own. no nothing. you would not make it through one day of quiting dope. nor to i wish to argue with you anymore via the internet, ive getter better things to do.like keep clean and move on with my life. if you want to see how hard this can be. shoot up for a few years then stop. see what happens. you will cry
@lovebattery100 PERSONALLY I THINK YOU GOT YOUR SPOON TOO HOT TOO MANY TMES; DUDE, HANDLE YOUR OWN SHIT ON YOUR OWN TIME AND GROW UP ; GET YOUR SHIT OFF LINE OR GO SEE DR PHIL.
@uptheWessums sounds like you are Dr. Phill. who are you? and why do you feel the need to jump into a conversation that has nothing to do with you. you are just like this kid im talking to. inter net nerds. just want to act tough because you know you are safe behind your computer screen. chris cornel would want nothing to do with any of you posers. you are what makes america so so lame. god if we were rid of pussys like you america would be a much stronger nation. dont waste my emailspaceagain
@lovebattery100 While it's easy for some to misinterpret you as someone seeking online counsel, the truth is that you feel that you are somehow better than most because you have temporarily kicked your habit. The truth is that you are comparing yourself subconsciously, to your former self. This will almost certainly lead to a narcissistic complex that will lead you right back down the hole you crawled out of as those around you seek to be around you less. You are a cancer.
@lovebattery100 SO , A LITTLE COMMENT GOT YOUR PINK PANTIES IN A BUNCH BECAUSE ONE HAS ' WASTED' EMAIL SPACE ON MR . MASTER INTERNET NERDS PC, BOO HOO ....... DO YOU NEED A COLD BEER AND A TEDDY BEAR TO TALK TO WHEN THE NET CRASHES ? GO ON GET BACK TO YOUR ONLINE PHSCOLOGIST , YOUR CUM STAINED KEYBOARD IS CALLING YOU ,JUMP NOW PUSSY BOY , GOTTA RUN, MY FLASK AND MY SPOON ARE SCREEEAMING AT ME , TIME TO BAKE SOME MORE COOKIES!!!!!!
@lovebattery100 Nah. I think instead i'll continue to be a literate, productive member of society with Family and Friends that love him. Good luck making your loved ones less dissapointed in you.
I agree i'd never make it through a day of quitting dope. I'm not the weak type of person that would ever try dope that i'd have to quit. Sorry that i don't like a song you used to get high to. It's a shame i'm the first name you'll see in your head the next time you spike up to this song.
@Beskrock it doesnt take a weak mind to do drugs. infact much of the music you like wouldnt be around if it werent for drugs. it takes a weak mind to see only one road to success. every one knows there is always another way. the difference between a guy like you and me is that you do what your told. therefor you will never know the real world. i am willing to make mistakes and will continue to make mistakes. you would be content and not go skydive while me... i wouldnt have it anyother way. pusy
@lovebattery100 It does'nt take a weak mind 2 do drugs, but it takes a strong mind 2 refuse them. You are a follower. I don't expect you to understand psychology, but you are projecting. You're accusing me of being you. It's fine to look within ones self, but we are not all alike. You believe that music would'nt be as good without junkies making it, but the truth is it may be better. That's like saying if Darryl Strawberry and Doc Gooden were'nt coke heads, the Mets don't win in 86.
@lovebattery100 Doing drugs does not make you adventurous. It makes you dissapoint the people who love you. It creates great stress on them which in turn will take years off of their lives. In a sense, you have helped quicken the demise of those who care about you. Skydiving to you was probably a huge accomplishment. You probably equated it with overcoming drug use. You felt like you did it! You became human again! You got your life back! You're pathetic and it's your fault. Try base jumping.
@Beskrock know that every morning when i wake up, no matter what im going through, i will thank the lord that im not like you. im a risk taker, and thats the way its going to be foreever. people like you dont go to the moon. you belong behind a computer screen in an office making money and living a boring life. too much of a mamas boy. go outside break a leg. break a nail if you have to. with deep spray on tans and lotiony hands you can grip a tacklebox. atleast you will have more cash thanme
@lovebattery100 No. Clearly it is the junkie who goes to the moon. It is the lifelong heroin addict who dreams big enough to dare. Lol! You're a fool. I don't believe in fairy tales, but if i did, i would thank God for giving me the smarts to not be so daring as to stick a poisonous needle in my vain. You probably heard it was better than sex and since you were'nt getting any of that, you decided to fuck your vain with a pointy, metallic cock. You injected yourself with spoon semen.
keep it up man!! fuck this bedrock guy.....he claims to be a christian yet its quite obvious this guy has no Christ in him.....hes a piece of shit hypocrite.....man drugs allow people to see through the eyes of compassion rather than condemnation....i would know this being a former pothead.....u are doing a very brave thing tackling this addiction on your own!!
@lovebattery100 you even responding to a weak person such as me means your are at the same level as i am. so how does it feel to be weak. my secrytary is the one taking care of all this writing i shall not waste my time with you. good bye last place is still a place higher than you will ever be worth. so maybe you just want a trophy.
I pick Times of Trouble over Footsteps. Don't get me wrong I like that song so much but this is some over the top epic stuff. The breakdown lyrics are just so fucking emotional!
Haven't listened to TOD for years..but now I have a great friend fading from an infection from feeding his addiction. It's so sad when such great people get caught up in the disease of this world. Music is one of the most powerful mediums out there. Especially great ones from the 90's. Seems like a lot of music 2day has lost touch with true emotional core...almost empty noise. And that is sad, also. Some music gives you goosebumps eveytime you listen, the rest just fills the silence.
@meandmusic1980 ....you must be new to the greatest era of music ever.....Andrew Wood.....former Mother Love Bone lead singer died from heroin addiction and this album is a tribute to him
and if somebody loved you and left you for DEAAAAD....you got to hold on to your time and break thru the sound of trouble....sing it chris....you drift me away
With the music from this version and the lyrics from footsteps it would have been perfect! Great melody, and the piano is great. Don't know why they left it out in the PJ version.
this is so painful to hear how bad i was to do this drug.hurts to even think of it. but you must remind your self how it pulled you away kicking and sceaming from all you love or care about..it is all consuming.peace and dont fuck with houston cause you will have a problem..
@vincit30 Yeah, I love that these guys were so comfortable with sharing eachothers music. Soundgarden and Pearl Jam fed into one another so much, and I think Temple of the Dog emphasised this absolutely wonderfully.. It was all down to Andrew Wood really.. the death of a mutual friend sparking off such amazing music.. trust these guys to subvert tragedy into beauty.. s'definitely what I love most about Grunge
Its actually Stone Gossard's song. Stone is the guitarist for TotD and Pearl Jam. This was originally writtin in the Mamasin Trilogy (Footsteps, Alive, Once) that actually happened before this record came out.
lyrics don't come any better, than they comin right here! This song is definitely about doing heroin and the hardships that comes along with it, but it can also be applied to any trouble that we are going through. AWESOME SONG!!!!
If intravenous heroin, morphine, and other drug use were legal, if the government kept laws off of bodies ( I expect your support pro-choicers here) drug deaths and crime would decline. Alcohol, weed, whatever, escape is not the same as speaking your own, pure truth.!
um dazzitboy to answer you question, eddie vedder and chris are best friends and eddie vedder was in hungerstrike. Temple of the Dog is basically Pearl Jam's band except for eddie vedder.
and Matt on drums. it was almost 50/50 SG/PJ. before EV showed up on the scene Chris was best friends with Andrew Wood (singer mother love bone). they lived together. the fact is members of SG and MLB were all good friends for years before PJ existed. They helped each other to make each others bands successful. When Hunger Strike was recorded Chris had just met Eddie Vedder. EV was essentially a nobody that the remaining members of MLB found to replace Andrew Wood and create Pearl Jam.
perfect song for me right now... the girlfriend of mine who was the biggest crush i can remember, dumped me a few days ago... and this morning my best friend comes on FB and tell me she hates me for no reason... thank you chris you will get me through these times of trouble
temple of the dog were 2 members of soundgarden and 4 members of pearl jam in 1991. but since then matt cameron joined pearl jam and so it is true that if you take chris cornell out of the equation then you are left with just pearl jam members.

@csmzcs No. "Footsteps" came before. It began as an instrumental demo and was compiled onto the Stone Gossard Demos '91 tape by Pearl Jam's guitarist Stone Grossard. Then Eddie Vedder added vocals to it. Later on the rhythm for "Footsteps" was used for this Temple of the Dog's song. You should check out the wikipedia page for it.

@uptheWessums sounds like you are Dr. Phill. who are you? and why do you feel the need to jump into a conversation that has nothing to do with you. you are just like this kid im talking to. inter net nerds. just want to act tough because you know you are safe behind your computer screen. chris cornel would want nothing to do with any of you posers. you are what makes america so so lame. god if we were rid of pussys like you america would be a much stronger nation. dont waste my emailspaceagain
lovebattery100 1 year ago

@Beskrock it doesnt take a weak mind to do drugs. infact much of the music you like wouldnt be around if it werent for drugs. it takes a weak mind to see only one road to success. every one knows there is always another way. the difference between a guy like you and me is that you do what your told. therefor you will never know the real world. i am willing to make mistakes and will continue to make mistakes. you would be content and not go skydive while me... i wouldnt have it anyother way. pusy
lovebattery100 1 year ago
@lovebattery100 It does'nt take a weak mind 2 do drugs, but it takes a strong mind 2 refuse them. You are a follower. I don't expect you to understand psychology, but you are projecting. You're accusing me of being you. It's fine to look within ones self, but we are not all alike. You believe that music would'nt be as good without junkies making it, but the truth is it may be better. That's like saying if Darryl Strawberry and Doc Gooden were'nt coke heads, the Mets don't win in 86.
Beskrock 1 year ago
@lovebattery100 Doing drugs does not make you adventurous. It makes you dissapoint the people who love you. It creates great stress on them which in turn will take years off of their lives. In a sense, you have helped quicken the demise of those who care about you. Skydiving to you was probably a huge accomplishment. You probably equated it with overcoming drug use. You felt like you did it! You became human again! You got your life back! You're pathetic and it's your fault. Try base jumping.

@Beskrock know that every morning when i wake up, no matter what im going through, i will thank the lord that im not like you. im a risk taker, and thats the way its going to be foreever. people like you dont go to the moon. you belong behind a computer screen in an office making money and living a boring life. too much of a mamas boy. go outside break a leg. break a nail if you have to. with deep spray on tans and lotiony hands you can grip a tacklebox. atleast you will have more cash thanme
lovebattery100 1 year ago
@lovebattery100 No. Clearly it is the junkie who goes to the moon. It is the lifelong heroin addict who dreams big enough to dare. Lol! You're a fool. I don't believe in fairy tales, but if i did, i would thank God for giving me the smarts to not be so daring as to stick a poisonous needle in my vain. You probably heard it was better than sex and since you were'nt getting any of that, you decided to fuck your vain with a pointy, metallic cock. You injected yourself with spoon semen.
Homo.

As far as your "secrytary" writing this, i'll assume you mean the winy little crying bitch side of you. Your feminine, sugary side.

I pick Times of Trouble over Footsteps. Don't get me wrong I like that song so much but this is some over the top epic stuff. The breakdown lyrics are just so fucking emotional!
But if somebody left you out on a ledge
If somebody pushed you over the edge
If somebody loved you and left you for dead
You got to hold on to your time till you break
Through these times of trouble.
MOST TOUCHING STUFF EVER!

Some music gives you goosebumps eveytime you listen, the rest just fills the silence.

vincit30 1 year ago
@vincit30 Yeah, I love that these guys were so comfortable with sharing eachothers music. Soundgarden and Pearl Jam fed into one another so much, and I think Temple of the Dog emphasised this absolutely wonderfully.. It was all down to Andrew Wood really.. the death of a mutual friend sparking off such amazing music.. trust these guys to subvert tragedy into beauty.. s'definitely what I love most about Grunge
venusasaboy1991 1 year ago
Its actually Stone Gossard's song. Stone is the guitarist for TotD and Pearl Jam. This was originally writtin in the Mamasin Trilogy (Footsteps, Alive, Once) that actually happened before this record came out.

If intravenous heroin, morphine, and other drug use were legal, if the government kept laws off of bodies ( I expect your support pro-choicers here) drug deaths and crime would decline. Alcohol, weed, whatever, escape is not the same as speaking your own, pure truth.!

and Matt on drums. it was almost 50/50 SG/PJ. before EV showed up on the scene Chris was best friends with Andrew Wood (singer mother love bone). they lived together. the fact is members of SG and MLB were all good friends for years before PJ existed. They helped each other to make each others bands successful. When Hunger Strike was recorded Chris had just met Eddie Vedder. EV was essentially a nobody that the remaining members of MLB found to replace Andrew Wood and create Pearl Jam.
