Listened to tons of girls singing this. Many types of vibrato and diction and levels of mania.. I have to say that Turner is probably the winner although you must admire Joplin for emotion even if she was off her tits.. My sis could probably have ripped it apart 10 years back.. Now I think it would just be a big ask and a painful throat the next day.

yees i remember comics also- had a huge impact on me when i watched it - think i was about 14 or 15 at the time. Recall it was on channel 4, i loved it so much i actually wrote to channel 4 to ask who the singer was and if i could buy the series on video (yes i do mean video!!). Unfortunately i was told can't buy the programme - no explanation why?? Still phenomenal song and voice though - unforgettable once heard.
