Thanks for doing a video on darker skin. The look is lovely. A big thank you! XXX Please can you do one a little more edgy. I think this video is excellent for black women who do not like neutral colours (I was like that until I discovered You Tube and Pixiwoo). May be doing a look based on a celebrity e.g. Rhianna, Vanessa Williams. You could even do a make up tutorial for maturer black women. I care for my mum whose paralysed and would love a tutorial I could turn to. Thanks :)
@pixiwoo When you say approximately 2 parts or 1 part, exactly how much would you mix? A pea size, of one color or a quarter size of another? Gorgeous work! You guys are my FAVORITE Makeup Gurus on YouTube as well as the most professional and classy. You really inspire me *XO*
I like that you show how to do makeup on different skin tones, it's rather generous of you offer so much advice :) I also have a bit of trouble finding makeup that works for me tho because I am biracial and have rather bronze skin with green eyes and blonde hair. I have absolutely no idea what makeup to use :/ Great vids tho! ;)
Love your videos. Based on the color wheel, warm colors are: yellow, red and orange. Cool colors are: green, purple and blue. I teach color theory for a living :)
Pixiwoo. I enjoyed watching and it made me think. I find it difficult finding a foundation that matches my asian skin tone. I tried out the Christian Dior Airbrush foundation and the shades were either too light or too dark. I am asian but my skin is quite pale but in a different way to white pale skin. I think I'm yellowish..does that make my skin tone cool?
@KGillx its not about finding fault it is simply my opinion. I was not nasty or horrible, this is the comments section, i am free to comment. Good day to you
She looks really nice. I'm so glad that you did a makeup look for Black women. I hope that you will do more of these. Could you do someone a lighter shade of Black on your next one that you do? :)
Finallllllllllllllllly!! You are definitely the best artists on here and it's great to be able to get advice that is specific for my skin tone and issues. Please keep up the good work and also try to use models of different shades of black so that there will be something for everyone. I think girls with complexions darker than your model often have the most trouble finding what works well so they tend to stay away from makeup at least that is the case within my group of friends.
To be honest i found the use of that particular plum lip colour and the blusher to be quite dated/old fashioned/90s. I didn't find it a natural nor a neutral look. It is quite a mature look( i have no problem with this). I did like the eyes very much.
I noticed you used a lot of products with shimmer. I was under the impression that it would be best to use a matte shadow for a brow highlight but you used a frost and it still looked beautiful and natural. Can black skin pull of shimmer better than white skin?
oh I love it !! fantastic. your model's gorgeous. it's actually been interesting, sinc ei do not have dark skin myself, to see that the plum lipstick is so suitable for dark skins! duh. i never thought that's why people used it. really cool!
Awesome job Sam- Desiree looks beautiful before and after:) Please do more tuts on her, she has gorgeous skin. I love seeing these tuts you do on other ppl, it really shows how talented you and Nic are:D This black girl from Jamaica will def be trying this look! lol
Thank you thank you thank you! For reaching out to the darker community; Its so refreshing to see talented artists like you giving us your tips and tricks! It also illustrates just how talented you ladies are - any colour, any face - you can do it all!
Black skin doesn't necessarily get oilier, unless you have oily skin. lol. Although, I don't see this as a natural look, it's a nice look. Her smile is beautiful, well done.
i love that you guys used a darker skin model maybe next you could get a more biracial tan model?? =D id really love to see what you can do on that skin tone considering i am that skin tone lol
@KahKrystalLynn Her brother's girlfriend, Tanya (who is used as a model in many of Pixiwoo's tutorials) is more olive-toned/tan :) She's gorgeous and has her own channel (Pixi2woo).
I am so happy to see you do a tutorial on a dark skinned model. If I haven't said it before, I love your and your sister videos. You are the only ones still doing tutorials, everyone else is busy showing off what they bought or what their favorite items are.
She has a lovely smile :) That's a nice look for any skin-tone. I always think darker skin-tones look especially amazing with bright tropical colours though because they look really vivid, but in most magazines it's usually the same neutral make-up. I remember seeing a picture of Solange Knowles with fluro orange lipstick at a festival, I ran out to get some from Barry M, didn't look quite the same though on me :P
good facts, thanks, has any of you tested L'Oreals newest line of products? it's not easy to obtain makeup in Weldon but i managed to obtain some magnificent samples of makeup from "GratisMakeupSamples"! their ace!
She looks beautiful. Thank you so much for this video. As one of your darker skinned viewers it's been very useful. I look forward to more of these coming up on your channel. Cheers Sam!
Loved this video along with all your videos, however I have to say those colours are the typical "black girl" colours MUAs & mags force on us ;-( To me its not even that neutral/natural looking, its a bit harsh. I would love to see you do some vids with brighter colours for black skin tones, to show we shouldn't be scared of colour and that we have more colours than gold, bronze and plum at our disposal! ;-)
@queenbeaesq Its always best to start with the basics ladies. I cannot start with a full on bright eye, otherwise all the beautiful black women that have little confidence with make-up will be scared off. x
What if you're a woman of a little lighter color? hehe, I am mixed. I have NC42-44 skin. What would you recommend as everyday blush and lid color? anybody? hehe
Thank you soooooo much for making this vid. I have been following your vids for sometime because your technique is fantastic. Now, I finally see a vid that is geared towards poeple of my skin tone. I so appreciate it! :D
I am so happy you used a black model because it helped me a lot....if you could use another black model in the future but so a whole face done including color correction for blemish and what not...Thanks so much in advance
It's kind of weird, but with this tiny amount of makeup she looks like she's wearing tons. I think that's because her starting position was so flawless! :)
Please God keep doing tutorials for dark skin tones. You guys are far and away the best makeup artists on YouTube and up until now I haven't been able to really apply everything you guys do to myself until now. You and your sis are so talented; please keep helping us ladies out!
Hiya, could you recommend a good under eye conceiler for me? I have olive skin and have been using Touch Eclat by YSL but find it's pinky tone doesn't do much to cover up my dark circles! thx x
She is gorgeous and the bronzes, golds and coppers used really enhanced upon her natural beauty. I really hope to see more of these tutorials, maybe looks that have a bit more of an edge, pops of color and the editorial looks that you guys have perfected but customized for darker skin tones. Again thanks as this was just awesome to see and learn from.
i'm going to try this on my friend! she always has a problem with her skin which is your model's colour (who is gorgeous by the way), my friend's is really patchy, colours vary right across her face. this was really helpful and i'm gunna check out berverly knights line also, heard lots of good things about it.
Could you possibly demonstrate make up on South Asian and East Asian models just to bring it to life a little? There's very little professional tutorials/demonstrations for the skintones of those groups of people.
Thank you for finally doing a tut on a darker skin tone. Your model hardly needed 'making up', she's that gorgeous naturally. Looking fwd to a tut on bright make up on darker skin tones now!
She was gorgeous, before and after makeup. Great job!
I was wondering, if you'd like to neutralise the darkness on the sides of your mouth (the model looks a little grey, where as I get a red or sometimes yellow colour there), how do I do that best?
OMG!!!!!!!!!! I am loving this look! Sam you make it all look so easy. I would love to do a course with you but unfortunately I can't work due to illness and I fear there would be too much time on my feet, which is a real shame as I have done a home course in makeup. Beautiful look though
have been waiting patiently for this...thank you soooo much Sam. Dont want to annoy you as am sure many people have asked already, but will you be doing tutorials for mixed race/asian colour skin please?
Fantastic! i was wondering since u seem 2 b very skilled at doin makeup if u could plz make a basic smoky eye for small native american/hooded eyes tutorial...
it would be so awesome if you could do a few more looks on darker skinned tones :) with more shades in that skin tone category,! thanks a lot, i LOVED this!
I have a question, I've got quite oily lids and want to invest in a good eye primer and am indecisive which one I should buy..the cheaper ones don't really work for me. from your experience with clients(as you don't use primer personally) which one would you recommend (urban decay PP or shadow insurance?)? thank you.
@GirLinTheRedScarf I cant really tell you as products work very differently on all skin types. My advice would be to pop into a dept. store and try one on each eye. Apply shadow over the top and wear it for the day. Then compare. x
Your intro about the warm vs cool toned skins was interesting! I am slightly on the olive-skinned side, and considered myself as warm-toned, but now i'm thinking that I should be a cool-toned person!
Great model, great looks, great tips. keep it up! :)
Her skin is gorgeous!

I would have loved to see Desiree with blue or purple shadows. She is so pretty though she doesn't need anything on her face.

such a nice tutorial, great model and super tips.

Great model, great looks, great tips. keep it up! :)
