  • All I need is a time machine - Go back to 1959, buy three Les Paul Standards: Two for sale and one to keep.

  • he'll be alive in our hearts as long as rock n' roll is alive.

  • jesus christ, he could barely move his fingers, and it still sounded better that anything I'd be able to do on a guitar

  • This is the man himself, no other guitarist is better than him. FOR REALS.

    HE IS THE LEGEND

  • I saw him in the same club (I think) in 1994. The guy was amazing.

How lucky I was - it was the only jazz club I visited whilst in New York.

  • YES

  • i really admire that in guitar players where when they have arthiritis in their joints etc and they still play. Im 18 ive been playing the guitar for 10 years now there is absolutley nothing that is gunna stop me playing the guitar i will keep playing until im dead thats the way i want to choose my life :) im that passionate about it even though im shit.

  • @jamescourt1000 Yes! Never Never quit James! I've been playing since I heard 'Lover' (When it was NEW)..

    Still no end to learning.

  • For god sakes, he is 84 when he played this!!

  • I clicked on this video when i was playing my strat... what a loser I am

  • The reason he plays on an amp cleanly is because he does not make mistakes so he doesnt even worry about what he would do to cover them up

  • @JTrut19 wtf??

  • @bulwine Les Paul makes so few mistakes live that playing clean isnt a scare for him. Thats a musicians biggest fear oin stage which is partially hidden by distortion

  • @JTrut19 That's true but Les Paul had an amazing experience so I don't think he needs to hide behind distortion!!! That kind of players don't make mistakes! :P

  • Did he get buried with a les paul guitar in his hands?

  • Comment removed

  • what a master!!!!!!! R.I.P

  • Feliz cumpleaños paul !

  • this is creative.......

  • if he was my grandpa, he would be the coolest :D

  • RIP Les Paul

  • Happy b-day Les Paul, nice music

  • Happy Birthday LesPaul.I love your guitar.

  • happy 96th birthday les paul!!

  • Happy Birthday Paul :)

  • Happy Birthday Mr. Paul.... clearly 1 person is very confused

  • Les Paul and Leo Fender. These guys were the archtechs of American music as we know it today. Les Paul was not just an amazing guitar player and inventor but an American Icon! A HUGE part of American culture. Leo and Les are the Chevy and Ford of the guitar world. R.I.P to them both! There will never be 2 more brilliant geniuses who brought more joy to the world in the form of music or any other form for that matter. I own a strat and a Les Paul but love them both equally for different reasons.

  • @Xcorgi That's awesome.

I decided after doing a freelance project in Web Development, got paid quite allot for it, so I thought right I am going to do the craziest thing I've ever done and go out and buy a reissue standard Les Paul.

I was shaking at the guitar shop lol, I don't know if you had to do this but I had to really calm myself down to sign the warranty form, bliss moment for myself, love it to pieces, my first real (i.e. not a replica guitar), even though it is a reissue.

  • les paul buying a gibson is like finding a penny for him

  • Let's not forget the inimitable Lou Pallo, playing alongside Les...best comping in the world and Lou is an amazing lead guitarist too! I once asked Les if he had any advice for me as a guitarist. "Keep pickin, kid!" he said.

  • I want to play with that cake!!

  • I sure hope that I am playing in my eighties if I make it that far -I think it's awesome that he was performing right up to his last years

  • 1 guy listens to slipNOT.

  • @b4mvdrumlegend umm....he invented solid body electric guitar, if that doesnt impress you i dont know what will

  • it takes balls to rock out with a clean amp

  • @remi3oh5 oh yeah, you have to be damn good to play guitar on a "clean amp setting".....there is no way to hide your mistakes

  • @inkey2 Distortion doesn't hide mistakes, it makes them more obvious. Sure, it helps with hammer-ons and high-speed picking, but it means you need flawless muting technique or every note will be a slur of radio static.

  • That tone! No one will ever match it. You've got to love his style; his playing is both classic and innovative, exciting yet regal. He was one of the best.

  • 0:15 Guitar banging!

  • R.I.P

  • To the peanut who said i havent seen anyything to impress,, he is 90 + here,, have a look at his early days with Mary Ford,, You need to do your research boof...

  • @b4mvdrumlegend Please post the video in which you do better. Les Paul invented multi-tracking, overdubbing, echo units. His name is on the Les Paul because he invented it , the guitar he is a model he developed that uses low impedence output and three wire grounded cords. He recognized that the common phone plug so called because they were used on early phone switchboards were inherently subject to noise because they had no ground.Exactly what have you contributed to anything?

  • @b4mvdrumlegend you should educate yourself because that was quite ignorant.

  • @b4mvdrumlegend he had very bad arthritis in his fingers in the years before he died greatly limiting his virtuosity.

  • ..Brilliant !!! *****

  • Did he get a shock in the beginning? R.I.P. Les Paul.

  • he almost looked like larry king!

  • Lovely music!!!

    Grandma mary

  • there are a lot of guitars that I would like to have of his just for the customization that was added

  • Your music will always be in my heart. Les Paul guitar will always be in my hands, recorded with multitrack and reverb! Endless thanks for all you did and for the inspiration you still give. I'am jealous that you gotta play for someone else in some different world instead of us. See you in the next life :)

  • I have the Bass version of the Recorder guitar. I got it at a pawn shop for $200 in 1994. Woohoo. R.I.P. Les.

  • RIP from Puerto Rico, lots of supporters wishing you fortune playing in heaven to god.

  • what guitar is he playing, i know it's a gibson les paul custom but ive never seen one like that before

  • it a "real" LP studio. I think they have XLR output jacks.

  • thanks. but i think it might be a gibson les paul recording

  • thats the one.... "recording" I saw one in a pawn shop hang on the wall for years. I couldn't get the man to come of the 500 bucks. Of course I'm sure it's worth much more nowadays.

  • haha, he picks all the way up on the fingerboard like i do

  • no actually he has to because he got in a car crash and he had his arm set to a guitar playing position

  • @SkillerGuyVids wait what please explain

  • @SkillerGuyVids Is that true?

  • @Nickdiaublow Yes. They could either amputate the arm or set in in a permanent position.

  • I love it at 19 seconds... he hits the guitar to bump up that note up one!

  • man!!! thats some sick shredding;) i have e gibson les paul!! i love it!! thank u!!

  • I saw him a few times around this time, but he had a woman on bass then. Absolutely fabulous.

  • Imagine if he came out and played an Ibanez guitar XD

  • what a beast

  • I love this guy.

  • Doesn't play like he was 84 at the time!!!

  • wow i love this man.amazing

  • Amazing. Les is the man!

I hear that he still plays at the Iridium Jazz Club. 93 years old?

    Thanks for posting

  • saw him LIVE about 3 weeks ago

    wanted to see him before he passes on;

seems he can't last much longer, OR

should he seem like the energizer?

  • Very cool!

    I envy you my friend.

I've got to get to NY to see him.

How many songs did he play?
