  • Melatonin works best to "reset your sleep cycle" in lower doses. Melatonin supplaments that are above 3mg are just a waste of money and a 10mg pill is no better than a lower dose of 3mg.

  • Kava Kava tinctures are usually a 4 to 1 ratio bought at Health store they do suck its like a sprinkle of kava powder and a shot of vodka. Buy a bag of good kava make the brew it works real well and make your own tinctures. anyway awesome entertaining vids Vinny!

  • for me, melatonin only works if I dont feel tired until 1:00 am and dont wake up until 12:00 pm. meletonin just regulates your sleep cycle. velerian does not make you sleepy but it does get rid of all anxiety at high dosages, making you fall asleep if your insomnia is anxiety related

    Natural sleep aids are good if you combine 10-20mg of melatonin, 900mg valerian, and 100-300mg of 5-HTP. That is just my personal experience. We're all different when it comes to drugs/herbal supplements.

  • I can never get to sleep ever I was a kid I'd use melatonin now I have used it so long that I like built a resistance but the effects still come at like 8 or 9 pills...I have taken 14 one night but the effects are short lived and kick out soon

  • What have you done to adjust for pH changes with the sheer volume of plant material you are using? More acidity means more transportation into the bloodstream through the acid mantle lining of the GI system. You also need a source of protein to transport the substance.

  • first of all: some drugs loose theirs original effect if you overdose them.

    second of all: maybe you should also TRY to fall asleep after you take some pills, when you run around you might produce some chemicals that counteract with them.

  • I get melatonin all the time because it works. I take 5mg and within a half hour I feel a natural sleepiness come on and I sleep... yup.

  • So for me, melatonin has no direct relation to sleep at all, and those who say that It works just got sleepy because of lower body temperature.

  • Some interesting fact I read from the famous Rick Strassman DMT book : He tried first to explore melatonin psychoactive properties as it has similar chemical structure and is produced in pinal gland. But after all the only thing which he succeed to prove scientifically about melatonin was it's ability to reduce body temperature after night sleep, that's all no other notable effects were found. !

    meditation helps deeper sleep if done the right way.

    garlic with many sleep aids helps effectiveness of them like

    red onion garlic fresh oregano vinca in mashed potatos

  • jiaogulan helps to regulate hormone levels which gives you energy in the day and when in the dark helps release sleep hormones. cooked as tea in insane amounts it makes you feel like your in your mommy's womb for a little while.

  • one thing you can try is putting lanolin all over your skin go shirtless in the sun and the radiation from the sun will turn the lanolin it into vitamin D and absorbed through the skin. also cooked red onions has a strong antihistamine way more powerful than chamomile helps a little.

  • oregano oil from fresh oregano and lots of it! chop it up and put it in mashed potatos. it will cause dependency but what dosen't. it will cause deeper sleep.

    get some Vinca plants eat a few leafs 5 hours before bed it wont help you go to sleep but it will help you to stay asleep and deeper. also try magnesium and vitamin D I've tryed thousands of herbs and vitamins for sleep and I'm still looking for the best ones but i have found these ones to work atleast some of the time.

  • I am what you would consider a "nature freak" but I don't believe everything that man creates is the devil I just think the way medicine is made I would not want to ingest it. Because they isolate and extract the chemicals with a bunch of poisonous solvents. I mean there are alternative just use alcohol there is nothing wrong with that but when they use either, naptha, and other high powered acids I really don't think it is healthy and smart to ingest that into your body

  • I've tried several natural sleep alternatives namely valerian root, kava kava tea, and melatonin. Valerian root didnt do anything. Kava Kava made me relaxed not really sleepy, and melatonin helps me sleep but it isn't really that strong.

  • Large doses of melatonin can be counterproductive: Lewy et al. provide support to the "idea that too much melatonin may spill over onto the wrong zone of the melatonin phase-response curve" (PRC). In one of their subjects, 0.5 mg of melatonin was effective while 20 mg was not.

  • @TheHumansight I've read this also and it matched with my subjective experiences. I've also heard it works better for resetting your sleep schedule. Like if you start some weird shift or something and need to start falling asleep at noon. You can take it for a few days in a row to adjust your biological clock. I haven't tested that though.

  • I got some Valerian Root and it has put me to sleep several times, I had pretty vivid dreams and better dream recall. It's not extremely strong though and I doubt it would work on a person suffering from insomnia.

  • well, melatonin makes you sleep. valerian, chamomile & other helps you relax, maintain mood & therefore you get good sound sleep followed by vivid dreams.

  • I used to use Melatonin; used it for about a year and a half. It's not a genuine, powerful prescription; more of a sleep aid. If you are already very slightly tired, take it and go to bed in about half an hour, you'll fall asleep faster. At least, that's how it worked for me. The only bullshit meds I've been prescribed that worked at all. Stopped taking it at the start of 2009 and I can still get to sleep the same way. My recommendation is to not be a pussy and give it some willpower. Peace.

  • Agreed to the extent it shouldn't be looked at as something to blame other problems on coming from my experience however the decision to take an easy fix that causes little to no problems wins in a logic sense when the alternative is will power which still takes hard work and will always take a lot of time.

  • Yeah I think I see your point, I don't quite get it but I guess so. But I weaned myself from all my medication (anti-histemines, Fluoxetine and Melatonin) and I prefer it that way, I didn't like relying on them. And they made no difference now I am off them. I just eat healthily and hit the herb every once in a while and doctors say my body is healthy.

    Still need to check out your Depression Therapy video, maybe you covered Fluoxetine in that.

  • Regarding Melatonin: I've used it a bunch and can say it does work, though it is very mild. It will not "put you to sleep" like prescription drugs will, instead it will allow you to fall asleep if you lay down for a while and try. Furthermore, taking excessive amounts of it does not increase its effectiveness at all, in my experience.

  • I've noticed that combining damiana and kava seems to bring out the effects of kava a bit more... could be placebo but seems to work for me. You should try it sometime if you like kava kava. Kratom is still the best legal plant in my opinion.
