  • im doing my riding and road saftey :D costing my mum allot though. The course is mostly what i knew anyway. we have just done the 2nd night of training last night though so there could be things i didint know but i have my cycling proficiency. the difference is just that instead of a bike, your on a horse LOL but im loving the course atm and out test is next sunday soo fingers crossed we will all pass since we have a fab instructor!! wish us luck ;)

  • im doing my test soon anyone got any tips? reli need them :)

  • the test is really eye opening i did my bhs rider and road saftey test last year and some of the stuff i didnt know and it really helped. especially as my pony went a bit green on the road after we were nearly taken out by a speeding transit van (it passed so fast and close i could of leant slighty over and touched it ! plus they opened the door onto us with rattling poles on top my pony was practically broom proof before this happened :L ) i'm so glad i toke the exam

  • This add is really great! I am German and have friends in UK. Whenever I fly over to the Island and hack out I notice the drivers on the roads are all very careful and do follow the advises given in this add, much opposite to German drivers who often are pretty careless and selfish with us horse riders on roads. Wish we had adds like that, too!

  • Please look for STOP HORSE RAGE on facebook... We want to start an INTERNATIONAL STOP HORSE RAGE campaign..... Thanks......

  • This is a good video!

Should deffinatley be put on the TV more often!

  • you have people who don't think but also people who don't care they would if they knew they could be injured or killed. non-riders need to realise they're at risk too. i'm glad my college makes us do our riding and road safety. I still think the driving test should have an equine related portion.

  • Yeap was an idiot driver that put an end to my life with horses lol.. yay for wheel chairs.

  • haha!

serves the driver right, sweet revenge :L

this is an awesome advert and should be shown on major channels!

Then people wouldn't drive their 'precious', and REPLACABLE cars up a living animals backside!

GRRR, i hate it when drivers are impolite, but there are the nice ones, that should be congratulated :) i always say thank you to the good ones, but scowl into the bad ones wing mirrors! :L :) xx

  • i've passed the R&Rsaefty test, i was surprised how much information went into it!! ican now proudly say that info will stay with me for lifee!! x

  • To be honest they shoudnt have been riding next to each other on a windy road like that. And why the hell didnt the rider go behind the other horse so the car could pass? idiot rider!

  • @no1horselover

The rider or horse on the inside may be a novice or young and therefore the rider on the outside is protecting them whilst they learn.

Another reason for riding two abreast is because there is not sufficient room for a vehicle to overtake safely and allow the riders safe passage – this would normally be because the road is narrow and there is nowhere for the riders to get out of the way onto a grass verge or gateway.

  • Its good to see the effort being made by the BHS to try and educate people and to save lives but some people will never learn. About a month ago a friend of mine was hacking out and when a lorry came from behind and tried to overtake without slowing down the horse spooked jumped and was hit and subsequently killed by the lorry.

  • Good advert but most driver only learn the hard way when a horse got a foot in their window! Most of all when the King's Troop RHA ride though London I seen driver trying to cut though us etc. Then they wonder why they have 2-6 horses beating the crap out of their BMW.

  • This is exactly the problem I had today..2 horse riders riding abreast....I know they don't legally have to move into single file, ( I only found this out by checking on the internet when I got home ) but as they expect car drivers to be courteous to them wouldn't it be the polite thing to do?

I slowed down and asked one of the riders... "shouldn't you be in single file when traffic is behind you?"

A snooty female voice shouted back..." Absolutely not, you stupid man ".

  • One time I was riding my horse on the road and just went around a corner and then a car came around and I swear my horse jumped strait up. But it ended well I stayed on and the guy said sorry.

  • Caru'r synhwyr cyffredin , Drueni nad oes fwy yn trafeilu ochr i ochr. Edrych mlan i weld cerbydau'n drafeilu ochr i ochr. Arafydd hynny y traffig.

  • No rider should ever ride that close to another horse.

  • This is a really good advert! I hack out on the roads with my pony Tess and she is really good and we have a good time!! But one time i was out with a freind and i was behind and there was a car behind me and Tess spooked and jumped forawrd into my freinds horse and i looked behind and the car was right up Tess bum!! i felt like screaming at them but i didnt. bloody idiots.

  • I wish American television stations would air a commercial like this to educate our drivers. There are many times when motorists, though good-intentioned, have caused horses to bolt after sounding their horns as if to say hello, and even more situations in which I have feared for my safety because a car was tailing too closely and startling the horses.

  • The advert has been shown many thousand of times, and is still being shown. As this advert is a filler, it is mostly shown on the extra channels at off peak times. The British Horse Society is extremely grateful for the adverts being shown, but as there is no charge for this to the BHS we have no control over when and where it is shown. However, it is good that the advert is being noticed and hopefully riders will be safer on the roads.

  • sadly there are people like this. ive been riding and people have been like this

  • I saw this advert on TV a few years ago, and was very impressed at what a good job they'd done. However the advert was on at about 3am, so i'm not sure how many motorists and riders saw it. I think more still needs to be done to educate motorists on how to drive around horses, and (as a rider myself) more needs to be done to encourage riders to wear high viz kit in all weathers. Sadly it takes a serious accident to make some people think. This advert on daytime TV would help educate many more.

  • Excellant. Let's get this film viewed on national TV!

  • This should be broadcast on well known channels in daytime and early evening hours. When I saw it it was about 10pm on solent TV a channel which was un heard of and is no longer going.

  • The sad thing is, there are drivers like this! Its a good advert tho. Is it going to be shown on the TV?

  • The British Horse Society is doing such a good job. Well done.
