Actually, the primary reason for the vault is to preserve the genetic diversity of our food supply, as many plant species have been lost through centuries of agriculture. The fear is that, if the current trend continues, a disease or any other calamity that effects certain plant species could wipe out huge swaths of the world food supply.

I have been following the news on that seed vault for some time now because "apocalyptic" themed movies, books and relevant discussion are interesting to me. I don't see why we can't go underground and try to recreate that Mars' extraterrestrial theory.. where the aliens went inside the planet.. but we are too many.. the best we can do is reconstruct homes and the transport system in a way that it's sheltered and have underground too for the sake of balance.

I have been following the news on that seed vault for some time now because "apocalyptic" themed movies, books and relevant discussion are interesting to me. My dad spent a career on nuclear missile atomic Polaris class submarines and as a 10-11 year old, I was already quite familiar with my dad's job.
I don't think the construction or mission of the seed vault was because of so called "global climate change", it was just designed to survive one while the seed vault did it's job.

It actually sounds like a good idea. Shocking isn't it. But if I had to pick 2 humans It would probably be the best all roudner male and female from across the globe. Not only physically and not only mentally but a combination of both. What I dont get though is the fact that they planted only 2'superior' humans inside. It's a good idea in case of plant disease, but otherwise pretty useless.

Hybrid seeds offer advantages, but also risks.
Even if you own land, you are dependant on the seed supplier, which is not a healthy situation for humanity.

without going back and looking at the website for the food bank again, I believe their mission was to preserve plants as they are now in their current genetic form and before some become extinct. The only reason they chose the location was so that the seeds would not be disturbed by climate change.
