Yeah mate, I completely agree. I like there straight up rock stuff like this, but when I listen to the album as a whole, I wanna hear a little more, u know? This song is really cool though. The album isnt bad.
meh, its not as good as The Alchemy Index or Vheissu. Wheres the Dynamics? This albums way too one dimensional for me, personally. I prefer it when they explore different sounds and instruments. All this album has is one side of what all the other albums have done. It just sounds like a collection of OK rock tunes. On the contrary there a couple of good tunes though, this being one of them.
@inscribe9 I know what you mean. Some songs (for me, at least) sound like the band is just yelling and blasting chords all over the place. Take "Blur" as a good example. But this album has its share of good songs, such as "Words In The Water" and this one.
@inscribe9 I agree, the melodic guitar and bass parts are slim on this album and it sounds like something more like Incubus would write, which isnt bad at all, but what happened to Teppei being "Teppei"
wow. i've never found a youtube song video without a single negative comment brfore this one. i aint listened to these guys to much, but they must be good!
I disagree. First, I think the ending is perfect musically. Second, the "epic ending" you are looking for is not only found in the music, but in the lyrics.
@xXS4ndraXx lol seriously. My favorite songs on the album are Words in the Water and Treading Paper. The broken phrasing on Words in the Water perfectly fits the image of someone drowning and gasping for air
seeing comments from various songs on their new album, someone is always going to complain, everyone wants the heavier stuff or the lighter stuff or the this or that, i personally think thrice makes great music no matter what they try, dont box them in, what ever they feel they want to do they should just do, all power to them! love it!
I love that Thrice has the ablilty to use religious concepts but never sound like they are preaching. They allow so much room for interprutation regardless of your creed. Its what sets them apart from almost every other band out their, simply in a class all their own. This album is incredible.
I am so glad they moved away from the heavy and screaming bullshit, this band is SOOOOO much more than just rat-a-tat drumming and crunchy guitar riffs.
Many of Thrice's songs use the Bible/Christian literature as inspiration and this song is no different. The song refers to the verse about Christ's salvation to man. 1 Corinthians 15:55 says "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?" The song talks all about Christ's salvation as it says "We were doomed to face the dark alone until vicarious perfection, dearly won, was made our own" and then the chorus line "...where's your victory? Tell me now, where's your sting?"
There's nothing wrong with ending less dramatically and more chill. Maybe they wanted the words to stand on their own and be thought provoking instead of just blowing you away with an epic closer for once.
why the fuck would somebody look this up and then dislike it? i do not understand.
