  • hey man, thanks for reply but I unfortunately did not make myself clear enough. I simply wanted to offer more of Stan's art and again I urge those who give a hoot to go find this lp/cd "Focus" and listen to it. The story behind the music recording alone is worth checking out. Man it was a nice surprise to find you are into Latino,, especially your loads of Cal Tjader, whose music stands alone among the "10's" as my favorite. Check out "The Contemporary Music of Mexico and Brazil" on Fantasy. GBWY

  • hi tobias, of course i am partial to Stan's music, sooo, Thank you for the love. i humbly urge you or anyone to find a recording of "Focus". recorded in July,Sept.and Oct. 1961and released by Verve. i hesitate to mention this, i believe it was chosen by Downbeat as the Jazz recording of that yr.,and nevertheless, an incredible musical venture, z.

  • Hi Z., 'Focus' is available on iTunes.

If you are looking for the original LP it shouldn't a problem to find a copy.

Ssome of the pieces from that album can be found also on YouTube:

  • Legendary Stan Getz performing Strayhorn.s "Lush Life"

  • Masterful! He embedded his improvisations in the melody. A real crowd pleaser.

  • Strayhorn and Getz! God! What a wonderful combination!!!!!!

  • I'm a Coltrane follower BUT I love some Getz. Great technician on Tenor. I will learn Bossa Nova listening to him. Love this music clip!

  • Coltrane's version is better on the lush life album...

    That makes me melt.

  • Excellent rendition! Never tire of this tune, and of Strayhorn - what a genius!

  • A beautiful rendition. High quality audio too.

  • lush life performed by stan getz in napa valley, the wine capitol, doesn't get any better then this unless of course i was actually there..

  • Such a great artist. He plays and defines the word 'jazz'. I heard some tracks recently of a gig he did at 'Tiffany's' in Hollywood that were of sublime beauty.

  • Beautifully played

  • I think his most famous Composition is Take the A Train... but this is a close Second... and equally great.
