  • Remove the association with Gilmour's body of work and what is left is not a listenable song in this final form. Harper may have sung Have a Cigar but the delivery of those vocals was atypical of his style. Harper does not often sing full-voiced as he did on Cigar. This is a very uneven performance by the three. It lacks Gilmour's perfectionist polish.

  • Thanks for uploading. This song is proof, if ever one needed it, that Kate Bush should have left the production, arrangement and writing credits of all her post 1980 albums to Harper.

  • When i saw Roy in Hyde Park about the mid 70's Dave Gilmour was in his backing band along with John Paul Jones and Andy or Edgar Broughton, some backing band.

  • and Pink Floyd still buy him a lords season ticket for singing Have a Cigar

  • SUPERB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you have a problem with kate bush in lycra? Are you dead?! LOL!

    coraclewoman

  • What is it with Kate Bush and spandex !? I mean I know aerobics dance was big back then but seriously...

Oh and everybody in those pictures is seriously in need of a proper haircut. Just a man and a lawnmower... I mean a pair of scissors. Ah, nice song.

  • Kate has said her biggest musical influences are Pink Floyd and Elton John.

  • I hour to Roy at the Festival Hall bet there will be some amazing guests too.

  • incredible song

  • Kate Bush and X Factor must never again be said in the same breath! Kate is about music and talent.

  • Not to take anything away from Kate's musical talent(which is extraordinary), but she has always been a magnificent looking woman.

  • @tjrtherocksponge Cool story bro, but just because Gilmour writes and plays on a project doesnt automatically mean it sounds like Pink FLoyd (which others here were saying) this sounds like Harpers solo stuff to me, which is my point. Gilmour does have a style completing seperate to what you hear on Floyd albums, and its a style that may be underated, always liked his first solo album a lot, after Barretts solo, it was my favourite of the solo Floyd stuff.

  • she's hottter than pepper puddn'

  • it's better than that overrated dirge don't give up!

  • I thought I'd mention that Roy not only wrote the Song but the majority of the Harmonies are Roy as well being as everyone is talking about Kate and Dave as if Roy were an also ran. "Hats off to Roy" by Led Zep is also a Tribute to Roy. The man is a Calss 1 Genius.

  • Great pics.

  • ohhh she's bonny. I wouldn't say no to her. I bet she'll go far with those sultry looks. Good Luck to you for the future. It's a minefield out there. She looks kind of retro in these pictures. You would do so well on Britains Got Talent. Look what it did for Susan Boil. I'd certainly vote for you. x

  • Nice set of Kate pictures, I haven't seen a lot of those before

  • the finest looking woman i ever saw,and most interesting

  • hat's off to Roy Harper

  • @logicreality1 Hehe ;) We can safely say Kate Bush is the polar opposite of everything XFactor represents. She's her own lyricist, composer, producer and, as her brother so eloquently put it, "she doesn't want to play with the [media] bullshit."

  • @CrimsonDiamond - I'm sure I saw her on "Stars In Their Eyes" years ago doing a cover version of one of her hits.

  • @CrimsonDiamond hear hear,And to mention extra ,Kate Bush was discoverd by Dave Gilmour from Pink Floyd . Before x-factor there were REAl artist with real talent like for instant Kate Bush.People who studied misic, worked their way up, fight for it build charachter, highschool friends who formed band and became legends and some are still perfoming.to name a few, U2,Simple Minds,Cure, and oldies like the Rolling Stones. Beatles started out as a band of boys that learned on the way.

  • @Choefoe Not to mention PJ Harvey who's every bit as talented musically as Kate Bush, and is a real artist in the literal sense, being a sculptress as well.

  • @CrimsonDiamond

    Yes.

Today’s dumbing down of talent and toeing the corporate line is actually the way it works.

It has been thus since people began writing some 5000 years ago, and continues today.

In art, there has always been mainstream against rebels, and the creative side usually wins, only to eventually become what they railed against.

Then the process repeats itself. I love Kate, and I fell in love with her when I was 10 years old, but that's another story!

  • @logicreality1 get a life...Kate Bush and the Xfactor?, you need to get yourself some musical education. Kate Bush is one of the greatest songstresses/performer and composers and would never sell her soul for some Simon Cowell shite. Really... how old are you?!!

  • @patra69w I wasn't asking her to sell her soul - I was just wondering who she is and if she's a new act? She looks like a right bonny lass. Why do you need to know my age? I'm already spoken for, if I suspect why you're asking. Sorry. ( Blush ) x

  • @logicreality1 Kate had her first hit in 1978 with wuthering heights, she was a sensation, something we never heard or seen before. She was discoverd by Dave Gilmour of Pink Ployd who paid her demo,s with his own money if I remember well. She,s a very talented and intelligent woman, writes all her songs and lyrics since a very young age, play,s several instruments. And her songs have substance, alway,s have a story.. The wireless mike that a lot of artist use on stage now was invented for her;-)

  • @logicreality1 faaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiillllllllllllllllllllll

  • @logicreality1

    Lol!

  • @logicreality1 are you joking or are you actually retarded?

  • @lawless130... I'm not joking nor am I retarded. Why do you ask such a strange question? I feel like I ought to be at least one of them now that you ask. Which one I'm not sure.

  • @logicreality1 maybe your just a retarded joke

  • @lawless130 Your'e just trying to flatter me.. this always happens. I'm spoken for, sorry :(

  • @logicreality1 If me calling you a retarded joke is flattery to you that speaks volumes about what you really are

  • @logicreality1 she's been a world famous vocalist for over a decade now. if you're too young or have somehow missed out go on google. that's what it's for.

  • @logicreality1 great question :) either very clever, which is my personal interpretation, or amazingly ignorant.

but really this is not Kate Bush at all. So far from what she really is

  • @logicreality1 oh you... troll...!

  • kate is so talented,and a stunning looking woman,i wish,if only/bah

  • Have to say this doesnt sound much like a Floyd tune, Harper is written all over this, course it was his album, Roy Harper did do a full album with Gilmour and another with Page, but dont expect a Zeppelin style or Floyd style to be dominant, but the one with Page is a good companion piece to Led Zep 3

  • Been one of my favorites for gosh, 25 or more years now?! Wow oh wow oh wow :)

  • Gilmour is my hero!

  • How the hell has this passed me by? I should be punished!

  • Roy Harper is a Genius a true unsung hero

  • anyone else hear Raise My Rent in this?

  • @sooner4949 Yes, similar style riff..

  • @sooner4949 definitely agree

  • @sooner4949 ha ha... if you mean the bit that Kate Bush chants near the end then she is saying 'D N A', which is what the song is about, but knowing Roy Harper it could be Raise My Rent - who can fathom a mind that deep!!

  • @sooner4949

Yes, a bit -it's almost as if it were composed by the same person!

  • Astonishing. Two great innovative and limitless talents....

  • Ermm, no-one mentions Roy Harper actually. This song smacks of his composure.

  • They make me wish I was from the UK and could time travel.

  • I know Ray Harper sang lead on Pink Floyd's Welcome to the Machine -- so he already has his Pink Floyd credentials. But this confirms what I knew all along. Kate Bush could be the only female who would fit comfortably as a major member of Pink Floyd. As vocalist, instrumentalist and writer. Just listen to this track. This is as close as a sample as Kate Bush with Pink Floyd as we're gonna get and this is fabulous. I could listen to an entire album of this.

  • @lastrada52 It was Floyd's Have A Cigar that Harper sang lead on, but yes Kate with Floyd could've been immense! Both are very experimental musically, plus the progressive rock elements & concept album spring to mind (Pink Floyd The Wall, Kate's The Ninth Wave/A Sky of Honey)... if only Kate had made a short film for The Ninth Wave - I believe she thought about it but nothing ever materialised.

  • @CrimsonDiamond You're absolutely right CrimsonDiamond -- "Have a Cigar," was the song. Hey, it was a long time ago and I didn't have the album in front of me. But I really liked Harper's vocals on that track. Thanks for the correction. Unlike most politicians I prefer accuracy.

  • @lastrada52 His name is Roy Harper.

  • @teamcrumb - It was a typo teamcrumb -- my fault -- apologies to Roy. But, judging from the grammatical errors, mis-spelled words and inaccuracies that plague most YouTube posters I feel entitled to a mistake every now and then. But, yes, you are right it's Roy Harper, and the song was Have A Cigar. Thirty years can do funny things to the memory.

  • @lastrada52 Sorry man, It was Have a Cigar he sang on when Rogers voice was shot in lat 74.

But i can understand the confusion.

  • @ltcurry - I already acknowledged the error months ago ITcurry. See the posts here. I had not listened to that LP in years, so the faculties get foggy. I had to correct some people a few months ago about Jan & Dean actually singing lead on the Beach Boys' hit "Barbara Ann." That was a revelation. Also, for some reason, to my ears, Roy's vocals fit Pink Floyd perfectly. I wonder how many fans would have realized it was not a Floyd vocalist had they not made mentioned it on the sleeve.

  • @lastrada52 Kate would also have fitted into Genesis prog - five and three man era (although the timings would be a bit out!) Kate and Steve Hackett, Kate on Wind and Wuthering.....

  • @lastrada52 I'm sure you didn't mean it that way, but this reads a tad sexist.

  • @lastrada52 It was Gilmour who gave Kate her break and helped her get a record deal.... they have collaborated quite a few times over the years

  • @FloydyTube - That is true. But with Richard Wright gone and the possibility of a new Pink Floyd reunion fading...I was hoping maybe the surviving members would reunite with a new edge -- Pink Floyd featuring Kate Bush (Not on all the tracks). I think Floyd fans would welcome it. Especially if she were collaborated with Roger Waters & David Gilmour. It would just take Pink Floyd to yet, another new level. But, it's just a suggestion. I know I would buy it if it ever were released.

  • @lastrada52 I believe at this point in time Kate Bush could possibly make Floyd better she has truly shown an ability to evolve musically. I wonder If the boys could give her enough of a creative leash. I wonder if those guys have any gas left in the tank to really produce anything as great as in the past. At the same time seems like Kate Bush wrote for herself, it is my biased belief she really was masterful on every album to date while evolving at the same time. Both Artists are amazing.

  • @JackFox13 - Pink Floyd giving Kate some creative leash -- as a member -- would bring Pink Floyd into a new realm -- an entirely new era. She would be the fuel they would need to rekindle their legend. It would stimulate a new direction -- fresh musical ideas. I can hear Kate trade vocals with Roger & David. I find it a curiosity --but one that sounds feasible. At least for 1 LP. Other than that, maybe Lisa Gerrard of Dead Can Dance. But, Kate is already in the Pink Floyd family.

  • ooooooooooooooooooo i love that soo much!!!!! its amazing, beautiful,,and i dont know wha t to say anymore:X:X perfect!!

  • anyone else get a boner watching this? lol

  • @EyeHawk777 Harper,

  • I'm so glad that I found the lyrics!!It;s such a great song and I coudn't stand not to know the lyrics!Thank you!!I really love it!!

  • thanks for this I have never seen some of those fotos b4

  • just awesome. beats todays music hands down.

  • This wonderful song is of course from Roy's 'The Unknown Soldier' album - if I recall correctly the lyrics came with the old album sleeve, but whether they are packaged with the CD I don't know - revealing my age there!!!!

In case anyone doesn't know, the 'YOU' being referred to is 'DNA' which helps to make sense of the lyrics and which you will hear Kate Bush chanting in the background from about 3:56 onwards - sorry if everyone knew that already.

  • Jim Ladd playing this song now on his weekly Wednesday midnight radio show "Headsets"

    Beautiful.

  • I love this song, Roy Harper, Kate Bush and David Gilmour still resonate today, a true sign of genius

  • Kate and Gilmour are the 2 greatest people in music or anything really.

  • @KatesPinkZeppelin Yeah, being an (obsessive!) Floyd fan, I really have Gilmour to thank for getting me into her music. I knew & liked Running Up That Hill (that hypnotic rhythm always kind of caught me) but it was also because of the Gilmour connection that I decided to dig deeper & get her albums. Lucky I did!

  • @CrimsonDiamond

You sound like you've never heard Roger Waters FFS!

  • @jerryfalwellsociety Why? I'm seeing Roger Waters at the O2 in May actually!

  • @CrimsonDiamond :) It bwas luck for me, i loved floyd and kate and then i later found out they were connected.

  • @KatesPinkZeppelin And Mr.Harper, a big influence to Kate, Gilmour/Floyd and Led Zep!

  • @reldditmot Yeah, Hat's off to Roy Harper :)

  • @KatesPinkZeppelin + Roy Harper that makes 3

  • Could you add the lyrics? I can't find them anywhere...

  • @62queST Sorry I don't have them. Likewise, I tried searching but to no avail.

  • @62queST I tried too, but couldn't find any. Sucks. We could always post them ourselves.

  • @Julzy20032000 It'll be great if you could send me these lyrics because I can't get them from the hearing. Thanks in adwance:)

  • @62queST When I have a spare moment I will sit and listen to the song and write down the lyrics for you (and myself).

    Julie

  • @Julzy20032000 OK Julie, I'll wait. Thank you once again:)

  • @62queST Lyrics now added, courtesy of mickmanchester

  • @CrimsonDiamond Thank you so much for adding and letting me know! From now I could listen to this stunning duet with deeper understanding, Best wishes from Poland:)

  • Thanks for posting this - never heard it before. Nice vid :o)

  • @key2kingdom Thanks Steve! I keep listening to ur Army Dreamers cover (plus ur other vids), inspired me to try out classical guitar again. U got any more Kate songs in the pipeline? How about 'Sunset'? :)

  • You comment inspired me to listen to Sunset and Pi from Aerial - until today I'd not bothered with the album, as on first hearing I was sooo disappointed with it. I'll go back to it and see if there's any other gems . .

Re arranging Sunset - I'll let it soak in for a while, and see how it goes . .

  • @key2kingdom I love the serene mood of Aerial, especially on the 'A Sky of Honey' suite - makes me imagine relaxing on a beach, in the midst of Summer 8-) ... without a holiday this year I've been starved of that lately lol.

Great, I hope it goes well then!

  • From what i understand Gilmour was instrumental in getting Kate Bush signed to a label... he believed in her.....

  • @beelzabubba Yes, Dave Gilmour went to Kate's house when she was 15 to hear her sing & play piano. She'd been writing/composing songs since age 11. Impressed, he then funded for 3 of her demo songs (including Man With The Child In His Eyes) to be mastered in the studio. EMI heard the recordings & signed her instantly. Gilmour later said Kate had such incredible talent, it would have been criminal to ignore her.

  • oh my gosh this is wonderful stuff, yeah Mr. Gilmour, Roy Harper and Kate have taken me on a blissful journey !

  • gosh! no one mentions mr. gilmour ????? those riffs come from one of the best guitarists ever, btw great song!

  • @RockOnGhita I agree. Gilmour can exude such emotion in just one bend of a note. A true musician. Far greater than certain guitarists who think it's all about showing off how many notes you can cram into a bar, who don't 'feel' the music like Gilmour.

  • The pictures were so amazing it almost took away from the song...great shots of Kate not seen...

  • What a charming young girl she was...

  • the best of three worlds collide.

  • Top album..Off to see Roy in London in May, a living legend!! Kate's not bad either :D

  • Beatiful song, I'm really proud of her parents for making such a woman

  • Indeed. I'm proud to come from Kent like her. She's surely Kent's greatest export!

  • Thanks for sharing!

    Nice video!

  • You're welcome. It's a great song so it deserves to be shared!

  • Hi Alex! On google type in 'kate bush images fm' and it's on the first site in the search results :)

  • May I ask where you got the photo at 2:35? I love it! If you could tell me, I would be ever so grateful!
