What if u have a thyroid isthmus, or thyroid vasculature right where u are inserting that baby. Why not shove that thing into the cricothyroid membrane via an incision in the sagital plane.
@mschneider212 if there is a thyroid sthmus or an enlarged thyroid gland, it s better to perform an open tracheostomy (without this system, and in the operating room, with the same insicion as in a thyroidectomy).
Opening the cricothyroid membrane is a different procedure, called cricothyroidotomy, which is for securing a short term airway, while the tracheostomy is for a long term airway. This system is not indicated for a cricothyroidotomy.
Didn't people invent the mechanical respirator when trying to do provide oxygen to high altitude planes during the second world war? That's what it says on Wikipedia.
@pyromohanzed Wikipedia is bull shit. They had respirators for people flying planes. If you have a tracheostomy in your throat, you are unconcious or not breathing. They just hooked the respirator up to an oxygen tank.

Yesterday, here in my country, a 50-old woman, mother of three died because of a wasp puncture on her tongue (was cooking fruit jam or something) while her oldest son was just paralyzed, watching her die. he called 911 eventually, the unit arrived 10 minutes later which is an excellent time, finding her DOA. By God, I would try the tracheo on MY mom rather than watch her die, even with the risk to kill her by myself by doing that.
Because most of the time an intubation goes down the throat from the mouth. And if it does go in though the bronch. then thats dumb. Because a tracheotomy is when there is usually blood blocking, like a bubble, blocking oxygen from goin in and out. If they did a intubation, it would go right through the thing thats causing no air to come in and out. Ergo, causing them to still not be able to breath. Cause i've heard breathing is important.
Excellent vid! Expecially when light was emitted into the trach. it made it easier for guideing the rhino instrument. I'm sure there are other procedures when perfm a tracheostomy during ER situation.
My teacher Dr.Mohammad Davudov M.D. love is tracheostomy and can does it.

So did that include a tracheostomy or not?

That's what modern supersonic pilots use now right?
pyromohanzed 1 year ago
@alamoshing That's a lie. You can be breathing yourself with a tracheostomy.

KryptonKyote your gag reflex wont be stimulated because its in your trachea plus you would be paralysed and sedated

Is the patient "knocked out" first, for instance with a bolus injection of midazolam? Or is he awake during the procedure?

I don't see whats gross about this. It is a life saving procedure, that medical professionals use on a day to day basis.

if you're going to get all the way there with the bronchoscope, why not just go with an intubation? Is there a reason?

To be honest, that looked a lot harder than it should have been. I'd like to see something else a little more securing.

It creates the orifice to insert the trach.
vs going to the OR for a traditional trach opening.
