  • I personally find this piece to be more powerful and compelling a listen compared to works like Schoenberg's Variations for Orchestra or Berg's Violin Concerto Op. 24 or anything by the 2nd Viennese School. His melodies seem better crafted and the harmonic and melodic tones more precisely chosen for their musical effect rather than a strict application of the row. I think this produces melodies that say something rather trying really, really hard to say something like those German's melodies.

  • @Ooger77 you can say that again there are ways to cheat so you dont have to conform to a strict tone row [which can become a straight jacket ] like writting a tone row like a palendrome so the end and beginning are similar

  • Thanks for the great write-up ! ! Now I know the secret of writing music for horror films is 12-tone composition!

I'm building an ever-expanding music history channel with over 500 playlists so far. I added this to my Copland list today it goes on the 1967 list as well. My lists feature most genres & cover the globe. 111 lists let you hear the music of any year since 1900 like you've gone back in time.
